took many trips to SD for prairie dogs , good times, find the AR platform to be perfect , take some bolt guns to use till the AR cools off , always take 2 empty boxes with me , marked pitty and remorse ,

I always developed my dope charts for the ANTICIPATED temperature, humidity and elevation for the areas I was hunting. Now the various ballistic programs are all available as apps, so you can feed in real time data to get the right drop and drift. Gauging the wind is the toughest part of prairie dog hunting with the accuracy of range finders today. BUT you still have to account for mirage on a hot, sunny day.

That looks like a blast. My grandfather used to go at least once a year when he was still working as his vacation. I can't remember the cartridge that was his favorite ( i think it was an obscure wildcat ), but I remember him saying that sometimes a near miss would kick up dirt that would kill them ( of course, that could be an exaggeration lol ). I'll have to ask him and report back

Find a small town in PD country. Ask the hotel owners if they know ranchers who want some PD control and can they put you in touch with them. Worked for me. Amazing thing is how big some of the ranches are. Years ago, I hunted two "next door" neighbors' properties near Martin, SD. The directions from the owner to the second place were "So you hunted Bob's place yesterday, great. My place will be easy to find. After you pass Bob's entrance, go 7.2 miles down that road and you will come to my place." When your "next door neighbor" is 7 miles away, it puts a real perspective on the idea of "wide open spaces"!
