I think they're referencing "Sundown Towns", where black people couldn't stay past sundown on pain of being lynched. In my opinion it's describing a "nice" family attempting to get a black person to stay until after sundown, at which point they have "justification" to kill them.

The University of What It Is has to be doing something more than simply explaining things. Night Vale has explained plenty of its mysteries before without outright destroying them. They explained the man in the tan jacket. They explained the faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home. They even explained Khoshekh. No, something even more sinister is going on here.

I think while it is an incredibly sensible way of ending the series, and it makes sense story wise. It would be an absolutey devastating way to do it, and I don't think Joseph and Jeffrey would want to end their podcast on such a depressing note. Especially because they'd likely get major backlash from the community for it.

No way; it wouldn't fit at all thematically. Night Vale had long been critical of positivism, and this is probably the most explicit address of the subject. I notice that stories are an important textual element in this arc, and I think what it's gonna come down to is that positivism is ALSO a story we tell ourselves about how we can know everything through science, how it doesn't exist if we can't see it. And I think the solution is what the magician said: "That man doesn't know everything." That is... You can't just refuse to believe, but once you start really looking at the foundations of the positivist narrative, it implodes. Like the idea that it's not real if you can't prove it? As the proverb says, "There's no proof you exist, only evidence." That is, you can't SEE whether a person exists in the same way as you; all you have to go on is outwardly observable behaviors. Once you start deconstructing, positivism loses its power to define your reality. Maybe it'll happen that Sarah Sultan didn't cease to exist, but was so upset at how she was treated that she couldn't speak. Who's to say different? Looking forward to catching up and seeing if my predictions turned out!

I know a lot of people are worried for the end, but to me this storyline is leading to either the weirdness striking back, or us finding out Lubelle is stealing the weirdness from night vale for some nefarious plot. I can't wait to see how Dana's double is involved, and if we'll get to see the army of alternate timeline Danas make a reappearance.

My mom called me today after listening to this episode. And she had a theory that absolutely broke my heart.... If anyone has seen the movie Shutter Island.... it goes along the same lines... all of the quirks of Night Vale .. are all in Cecil's head.... and the University of What It Is.. and all the scientists.. are all the doctors and Psychiatrist.. trying to help Cecil come back to the real world... ...Idk how to feel about this.. but it would make sence.. if this is to lead to.. the End of Night Vale as we all know and Love it... ;-;
