If you split a lot of firewood each year, you probably use a premium or commercial grade log splitter. The folks at Split-Fire, here in Ontario Canada, asked me if I would like to try out their Split-Fire model 3255 log splitter. You bet! Come along with me to learn a little about the splitter and to see how it performs on some Ash and Maple rounds, here in the outdoors, at the cottage. Cheers!

I rented one for what I thought would be a 4-5 hour workout. It was at least 20 years old... I lightly hand filed the blade sharper to take out the blunt edges. 2 hrs. and 15 minutes later I was done. It was horribly knotted pine. I split my pieces 1/3 the size that you split them to and some of my rounds were up to 24 inches across. Outstanding machine.....

Hey Gord, Love that Split-Fire splitter. That log lifter will flat save your back and the older you get the more you need to save your back. I know from experience. I fell thru a fiberglass patio cover on to the concrete patio (about 9') back in 1995, and have a compression fracture of 2 lumbar vertebrae. Not fun. Gets me out of that jury duty crap tho, lol. Looks like the Split-Fire's cycle time on the knife is equal to or maybe a little faster than the Brave. Canadians make some fine equipment. USA used to.. Hope you're having a great week. Been raining here for the last 4-5 days. At least it put all the fires in Norcal/Socal out. Now we gotta worry about mud slides and that stuff. Always something.. Cheers!

Really a nice splitter GP. They put a lot of thought in this machine. Works really good. I remember the first wood splitter that i seen was home made, and the hydraulic ram was positioned on top of the main beam. That booger was only about 12 to 14 inches off the ground. It split well, much like they do today but you had to work in a bent over position. That was very tiring after 15 to 20 minutes your back was hurting so bad. I like that table lift. That is awesome. Thanks GP.

Interestingly I just looked at one of these. They used to make an electric version that was very quiet, not the best in the middle of the woods though. I also liked the accessory where they had a pto pump for the 3 pt version. They are not what I would call inexpensive, for now I will continue the shoulder, tricep, and abs workout of the 6 pound splitting wedge, and of course my random overspray of things with the Mingo. I suppose it could be worse; accidents with the Mingo are certainly better than accidents with the Echo.

Those big ash again! The design is great to split logs cut in an angle. Otherwise, it's almost dangerous a log slide and hit somebody. But who cut that log in an angle??? Lol! I assume there is no affiliation with Farmers on this one. Thanks for sharing!
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
LOL. They are great - we get so much firewood out of them. I purposely cut those angles to see if the v shaped log back actually would minimize the kickouts, and it does. I only had the one round kick out and the rest were caught. So it's true I think. I just finished filming a second video and had no kick outs at all. So, definitely the design does what they told me it would. But you know me, I still had to try it to see if it did work the as they said it would. Interesting design Joe. No affiliation but Ontario based - out of Norwich Ontario - they are shipping these units from Norwich to the US, the UK, Germany, Belgium and New Zealand. Great Canadian success story. Hi GP nice looking splitter. Wondering what the lift capacity of the table is? I have owned a Wallenstein 30 ton log splitter for the last 11 years. Gotta love the Honda small motors. Never had any problems with it but if I was in the market for one this is the one I would get now! Things I like : lift table, place to put the other half of a really big round after its split in-half and the dual splitting action. Looking forward to more videos of it in action.

The lift is limited by the geometry and weight of the lift up of the log splitter not the Hydraulics of the lift itself it can lift more in the range of 400 for the larger 3255 and around 250-300 for the a smaller machine

Morning Metfan! I am enjoying using it - especially the table - yes, they have models that have 4 way knives too. I would really like to try one out at some point as well. Thanks for the watching and for the question this morning - Cheers!

Good evening Michael. Yes indeed the snow left for a day or two but we got 5 inches today. It's a pretty fancy splitter for my needs, I think, but I will enjoy using it as much as I can while I have it. Hope you and your family are doing great! Cheers!

@@GPOutdoors I put another Briggs Engine on my 27 Ton Troy Bilt two years ago. A Speeco 4-way would be a nice upgrade for me, but I’ve only used it twice this wood burning season so far, 90% of my wood goes into the Wood Doctor outdoor furnace, I can put a 57” log in it, doesn’t need split!😀

GP I sure wish Andrew from Eastonmade would loan you a splitter being a local Canadian and all. Once you use one with a 5-7 second cycle time and auto cycle valve its no comparison. His color even matches your tractor!

When you've seen Eastonmade commercial splitters and those from Wolf Ridge Manufacturing, calling that SplitFire one a commercial grade splitter is somewhat of a stretch. Sure it has some heavier duty features and the addition of the log lift helps with the big rounds. I don't think this would win any races with any splitter from these 2 manufacturers.

bwillan very true. Only time I would use a single wedge is on a power split style. I have used one of them and they do work fast but I have a soft spot for push through horizontal. I have a modified commercial push through and my uncle has a clone power split. We are gonna have a split off and see just who is king. The vid that Andrew made against a power split was not correct in my opinion. The PS operator looked like he didn’t know what he was doing and I know from hands on he would of been faster with a single wedge.

Gp how long until you test out the pto - 3 point version I’m dying to see in action. Almost bought one but settled with range rd rr120 and not regretting it with the 4 sec cycle time. I like the range road line up too.

Good day G! Not sure but would be great to get the chance - I have never used a 3 point splitter before. However, then again, I don't have remotes so the chance might also be...remote. LOL. Take care - all the best!

GP Outdoors the split fire line makes a pto shaft kit for the 3 point splitter where no hydraulic line hookups are required and it is self contained. Your pto shaft runs a pump to a tank on the splitter ! Check the website it’s rite up your alley !!! Cheers from Manitoba !

Hi Morten! They have an option to have the table 4" or 8" higher which I think would really help taller folks. Guy is 6'4" so I think he would definitely need the lift option on it. Cheers!

Brian...That is what my splitter is only it is...”slightly” modified. Dump valve, auto cycle valve, 3” suction strainer, 28 gpm pump, completely different catch table, and tongue, twin hyd filters, etc, etc. Right out of the crate I redesigned and modified it. I know...warranty is gone and it doesn’t bother me one bit. Watching stock units now compared to mine is like watching...well...this unit.

That thing isn't worth it unless you have 3 guys and a double detent actuator. 2 running it and one in the skid steer. I know this for sure.
@GPOutdoors

Good morning Tim. Thanks for the feedback. Just a question - what function or how does, a double detent actuator work on a splitter? Sorry, I am not familiar with what that is or how it would function. We often have two or three people working together so it would be great to understand how that would work. Thanks!
