I used to own a sega mega tech arcade machine. I bought it at an antique shop in new britain ct. I had it in my game room for many year. Sadly i lost the house and gave the system to a buddy. Over the years I've lost contact with him but i know he still has it in his game room.

MegaTech I read is actually a 8/16 bit system (68000 main and Z80 for sound in Genesis mode or Z80 doing all in master system mode) Most of the hardware is based on Genesis Hardware. Some of them are master system (it has the built in converter). However, the carts are different as there is an extra chip used for the menu system. The menu system uses a separate Z80 processor.

Pretty decent all things considered for what was essentially a rival to the PlayChoice 10.

I almost forgot to mention. the first cartridge titled Super Real Basketball is actually known in the US as Pat Riley Basketball which serves as one of many celebrity endorsed sports games which include legendary sport icons like Tommy Lasorda, Arnold Palmer, and even James ''Buster'' Douglas (thing was that Sega of America pulled all the stops by having many famous people work on Sega Genesis games in order to attract a wider audience to the then new console back in 1990).

what's interesting about it is that even though the cartridges are shaped like the Mega Drive cartridges, there are special PCBs to ensure that the user doesn't put in their own games (mainly since the special carts feature extra data such as the information used by the upper screen).

I guess Sega didn't want to chance distributing this here, (with what the Nintendo's Playchoice 10), though nice Sega thought to include both Mega Drive and Master System carts together.

So was the version of tetris available for these machines based off of Sega's un-released Genesis version or is it a completely different version/made by a different developer?
@tntamusements6 жыл бұрын
It could have been...but I don't know for sure

There's one in my grandparent's house that's been dusting away for more then 25 years. Last time i played on it was about 11 years ago. TNT could you recommend some forums where i can find more technical information about it? All the original joysticks (red, black) and buttons still work!

P.S. I was always wandering what was the little door in the lower for, since on the one that I have it's just a door with a key opening. It's for North American dollars, now I know =]. Does this one work on Time per Token as well?
@johneymute3 жыл бұрын
But am very curious how that timer system works,as far as i know it’s completely independend from those games but all i know is when you keep feeding it with money ,it will extend your play time.

Very informative! Could you repeat the name of the distributor? I'd like to do a bit of research on it.

This is fascinating to me...you said a guy in Connecticut had 5? I *SWEAR* I've played one of these before, very briefly at a movie theater in CT. The only thing is, I'm almost fairly certain it had the Sega Master System version of Ghostbusters on it. I wonder if the one I played was one of those five.

I kept your advice...now I have 2 of them... but I am not interested in the most games (especially Master/System games), but have one guy in my group that made me custom-cartridges including control-monitoring on the 9"-monitor

I have one here in Romania. Its made in Belgium. I still try to refurbish it. I have some problems with the flyback transformer from big crt. (i have to replace it because its dead) Work in progress... :) / PS: all 8 games are still in (2 pieces of Golden Axe, Ghouls'n Ghosts,Altered Beasts, Super Real Basketball, Super ThunderBlade, Tetris, Space Harrier ll.

It will be worth it...these Megatechs have skyrocketed in value!

I know that :) / I replaced the FBT and surprise!!.. The CRT was highly magnetized. I replaced that to, but after few hours the FBT was dead again... dont know why.. :/ (i replaced all most capacitors from pcb) So i replaced a second FBT in 3 days. I hope this one will work for long. I don't want to replace it with a LCD. I want it to be original.

I get one of that soon but really dont like the console-graphics. I hope from the 48 cardridges I get 8 that are good. Moonwalker for example sucks the hard way compared to the arcade version. Final Fight seems to be on one level with the arcade version but I am not positive on this. Sonic is the reason why I have bought this machine...now I have to find 7 games more.
@tntamusements8 жыл бұрын
+Hirthirthirt There are still quite a few good games...Golden Axe is good!
