I appreciate the warning about welding or soldering on gas tanks. Even after watching you do it I still don't have the courage to attempt it. Pin holes in gas tanks I have defeated me every time. It's about the only thing that's a deal-breaker for me now lol

First car (truck) was a '72 with a L16, back in 1981. That hooked me! Had 5 since.

I don't remember it being particularly slow, maybe 70-80 range? I didn't have a problem keeping up with traffic on the freeway. I was a teenager and I'm sure I drove it pretty hard.

Get the oval rubber brake adjuster covers and keep a little grease in there, keeps the grit out. If everything is set up right, and the brakes are regularly, properly adjusted...well after a while I got it figured out. The truck would stop very straight and was not prone to locking up. My owners manual for the 1966 says to adjust the brakes every 2000 miles. Yes, 2000. I ususally judged by the travel of the brake pedal over time. You have to tighten the adjuster till the brake engages the drum, then back off 11 clicks. After, spin the wheel alot to make sure the shoes aren't dragging. The truck is so light that the shoes last well.

Thanks soo much for that information!! I am happy to hear this because I would love to just keep the drum brakes. I want to do minimal upgrades. Mostly electric heat and AC unit. Any other info you can share on this old rig is greatly appreciated!
