Those were the era of Germanium Transistors viz, AF115 for RF stages and AC128/AC126 for Audio stages. The receivers then had lot of noise due use of Germanium Transistors. With low noise and high gain silicon Transistor availability Philips new models had all Silicon Transistors except in the audio output stage. Later on with advancement of technology IC radio with either one IC or two ICs were in the market and now also they prevail. Very recently DSP Chip radio with minimum component count is the current craze in market.
