EP2 of a new mini series about 2391 this time covering the all important exam and what you need to know.
Myself, Jamie Blatant and Craig Buist run through what the 2391 exam entails!
Jamie is a current lecturer and 20 year spark on the tools.
Craig is currently head of department at Waltham Forrest college and has over 20 years experience in the industry.
2391-052 Duration: 120 minutes and 60 questions
1. Understand requirements for inspection and testing 13 questions - 22 %
2. Understand safety management procedures when undertaking
inspection and testing 3 questions - 3%
3. Understand the requirements for the inspection of electrical
installations 11 questions - 19%
4. Understand the requirements for testing electrical installations 33 questions - 56%
We discus the exam layout, time frame and techniques. Along with the structure and importance of reading and understanding questions.
www.wiringregulations.net/pub...
We will build this into a useful series to hopefully help prepare people for a 2391 course. This will not be training for the course, more what to expect and pointing at awesome content that might help already in existence and the places to get experience and preparation for it!

Enjoy the video 👍, having failed the exam twice now . 1st time by 1 mark,2nd time by 2 marks. As an adult learner trying to get into the industry it is hard to get the experience . A course is needed to teach ,then maybe the advanced 2391 is the higher level test/exam. Never realised how hard it is to be adult learner when everything is aimed at school leavers. Also city & guilds put in questions that are just worded badly to catch you out, which just seems petty & needless.

I did 2391 a couple of months ago. The online exam was fairly easy. The rest of it was difficult. The final practical exam was THE hard one. The practicle exam took A LOT of research. You have to know the books....... I passed.........

Eerrrm, not really, know the books inside and out. Personal experience helped but I was lacking in 3 phase testing. There are a few videos on youtube that helped a lot with 3 phase PSC calculations and other things. You have to familiarise your self with the process and just understand what they are trying to test you on. It's important that YOU have to RESEARCH the subject. You have to put the time and effort in to it. I paid for these courses off my own back, so it was important that I put the effort in and not waste my own money......

Lovely informative video chaps. Subbed without hesitation to see more. Thank you. The 2391-52 seems to separate the doers from the combined thinkers and doers. The doers being those that go through the motions of testing and inspection with a narrow mind and seeing it as a routine chore that an electrician has to endure. The 2391-52 course actually encourages enrichment which provides the divide that creates the combined doer and thinker. In a way it's a bit like the difference between undergraduate and postgraduate study. The latter involving more critical thinking, research and specialisation.

Good video. I’ve Just sat and passed my 2391-052 Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing today and found the trickiest bit was how the questions are worded. It really tests your knowledge as nearly every question is worded differently to what you revise in the many mock papers, IET Exam prep book and online sample tests. The one thing I’d say is if you’re not too sure of an answer there is a good chance you’ll be able to find an answer or very good clue in GN3, Onsite or the BS7671 Wiring Regs. 2391 is much harder than the 18th Edition exam which was piece of cake compared to this. I’m glad I don’t need to sit this again. How bad is the AM2?

Another great video, buy the book that Jamie recommends, get used to the in depth language C&G use. Check your understanding with definitions in 18th ED. People really struggle with technical terms and why we test, especially if English is not your first language.

Good points, very helpful. I've just failed both the online multiple choice and the short written one. I felt after the exams that experience and familiarity with the books are fundamental in order to pass. I have booked the resits now, let's see what happens next.. Cheers guys

Thank you Gents, a really interesting video, I bolloxed my online exam as although I’m experienced in testing it’s on trains, so the building side is not my thing and that’s not me using it as an excuse, the biggest reason is I didn’t study as much as should have along with having a hatred for all things mathematical, it is hard it is intimidating and yes f*cking infuriating when you don’t achieve the pass Mark like I failed to achieve, but as said in video go revise and revise more, there won’t always be people in the job who know/ the smart arse ones who will try and embarrass you for asking but remember they won’t know and are deflecting the heat away from them!, so to anyone out there panicking or feeling like they are useless like I did.......... DONT think like that just clear your head and read , practice read, practice, read practice and have confidence....... most of all best of luck in your exams

I was a sub contract foreman on the new Silverstone formula 1 pitlanes garages and control centre conference centre ,I had a suby sparks who told me that he was only 1 of 3 who passed his test and inspection course out of 32 yet when it came to doing the job he could talk the talk but couldn't walk the walk so I sacked him ,so there's a lad who according to you by passing knew not only how to test but knew the reason for each test yet he couldn't do the job when the pressure was put on him

Here is a question: A single phase circuit supplying an electrical appliance has an R1+Rn value of 0.4 ohms. The protective device is rated at 32A. The design current is 29.6A. What is the voltage drop? From the answer, in an EICR what coding would you apply to the result and why?
@A121podcast
@A121podcast 2 жыл бұрын
What size conductors and I will assume the appliance isn't a ginormous lighting array 🤭. Questions like this are fun but we are trying to be careful not to give instructions as much as possible lol.
@montystelevision3238
@montystelevision3238 2 жыл бұрын
No it’s a single phase radial circuit to a single appliance. No conductor size given. What’s in the question is all that’s revealed. I can see you’re possibly travelling down the Appendix 4 route of BS7671??
@craigbuist4636
@craigbuist4636 2 жыл бұрын
For me voltage drop is to confirm cable csa so for this, if the voltage drop did not comply with the 11.5v then I would be coding this as a C2 as undersized conductors could lead to thermal damage which could result in fire. Be interesting to know who or why they posed the question with so little info. As if the cable run is short. The 0.4 value for r1&rn is not necessarily a concern. Volt drop calculations would need length of cable to apply. Thermal adjustments and correction factors would be based on install method. Seems a bit ambiguous to me
@craigbuist4636
@craigbuist4636 2 жыл бұрын
If you do the formula of U=IxR would give you 29.6x0.4 would give a drop of 11.84V which means the circuit technically wouldn’t comply based on the information provided.
