So proud of all three of your...I’ll have SIX years on June 26 and I still have nightmares about my brutal, long withdrawals. Man, the Fellowship is the way to go and please don’t give up. It took me about 45 days to really start sleeping and to lose the boredom/anxiety thingy.....keep going cuz you got this!!! Congratulations on staying away from the subs and methodone (that stuff is a hell all in itself....horrible and long withdrawals) Keep coming back!!! SO many hugs.....I swear it will get better sooooo soon!

Hay thank you guys so much for what you are doing here !! I am fighting the same battle, want to get my life back so bad, but sometimes my head just messes with me and tries to lie to me and tell me I can put this all off and just feel better for the night. That is when I put in headphones and go for a walk and just listen to you and your brother talk. It feel so good to have someone that knows what im going through so I don't feel so fucking crazy lol. U guys are doing Gods work !

For me I remember I literally could only allow myself to think about the day I was in and there was so many times I looked at the clock as the MINUTES passed and I literally just tried to get thru one HOUR. I can’t tell you how many walls I punched and tears I cried getting out all the hate I had for addiction and for myself. They say one day at a time but it’s SO easy to let your mind jump ahead. Learn to recognize that thinking so you can stop it because I PROMISE you that you will get sucked back into that vortex of hell and prison and death if you don’t practice retraining your brain every moment while it heals. And it HAS to heal. When we are coming up off junk our brains are so messed up - we literally taught them that they need that shit just to function and in order to get and STAY clean you have to work at it. Bust your ass! Read, color, work, make a punching bag and write down all the shit you hate about addiction and punch it to death on a punching bag. Or just write or record like Derek did - you don’t have to upload anything. It doesn’t matter how “crazy” it might sound to someone... if it keeps you off dope (or whatever) then do it! I made myself get as obsessed with recovery as I did with my drug (mostly H) because I can’t do anything half-way. At first I did it for the courts tbh and then I got angry as hell that I was being controlled by a drug or the courts and pissing my life away and had destroyed EVERYTHING before I turned 25! One night after a meeting I cried like a deep gut cry and it was like I finally was able to look up at the sky and admit that I had been totally defeated. I knew it was over. I wrote every family member a letter as if from the grave and I decided to explain to them why the drugs were worth leaving them (I didn’t send them, it was just something that helped me realize and cope with the horrific damage and pain I caused). It also helped me to write my own obituary and I was mean and truthful about myself so no one would pity me. I spent about 2 weeks (after the worst of the detox) being full of rage and then it broke and turned to pain and THAT is when I realized I might have a chance to stay sober. So be willing to FEEL anything and don’t fight it or try to numb it. If you’re anxious, find a way to physically exhaust yourself. You’re exhausted now but not enough or you won’t be as anxious plus it helps with sleep. And man, listen to Derek!! He has walked thru the fire and is beating the grim odds but ONLY becuz he stays humble and REAL and doesn’t assume he is bullet proof from the demons that can come back for any of us at any time. Goddamn I hope you two can make it.. I have lost everyone I used to know when I was using. Only one is alive and she’s locked up for 16 years. Everyone else has a gravesite that I still can’t visit. Derek, you continue to be such an inspiration to me because so many people think we can’t get better, it we did - we can! Love & might to all 3 of you. I pray you’re in future videos guys keep fighting!

I was an addict abused opiate everyday for 12 years. I am now 3 years clean cold turkey no help it was hell. I am 43 and I feel like I have destroyed my life. I think I was covering up depression and anxiety because now clean I feel suicidal. I am also destroying myself over money wasted and having 30.000k saved at43 no house or car I wish I would have done life differently. I should just be thankful to be clean and alive. I LOVE YOU all wish YOU all well

Just came across this and I can really say you are an inspiration to people like me, I've been a junkie now for twenty two years and on a methadone script for at least sixteen years, I have always worked and still at the age of fifty four I have a great job as a manager and apart from my thin appearance no one knows what I do away from work, I hope you have kicked it's arse and you are still clean ! I would love to get off but I can't stop working to detox as my family needs my wage to help keep a nice roof over our heads. I can't really see a way out for me because if I admit my problem I will loose my job and upset my elderly father, he has already lost one son to it, I don't know what to do but I will watch how you both do and see if I can find a way to get clean without fucking everything up, good luck and keep me posted on your recovery.

Man Derek you helped me get off herion almost a year ago so I know you help alot of other people..your bro is so lucky to have you first hand..I watched all your video's while kicking..I quit for 60 days last April- June & relapsed till August..since then I've only snorted 2 lines in November but that's it & you truly helped..I went to jail from August 28th- October 23rd..so I had to quit herion, meth & a 8-12 beer a day habit in jail cause I failed a drug screen for pre trial probation in August ..I would've only done 3 days so don't fail a test..then was out for a month & went to another jail in an all felon pod for 60 days for trouble Feb 2017..was trying to get it all out of the way..all this was trouble from Feb-March 2017..then 8 days in downtown cincinatti jail this April..kept missing court dates but turned myself in trying to get it behind me..3 duo's & a third degree felony for giving someone a ride that had me stop in front of a prison & he ran up & threw a crown royal bag full of drugs over the fence..so now I'm clean for almost a year off opiates without suboxone or anything..drink a beer here & there..I'm on probation in 4 different counties & have to call 2 of them daily for random drug screens..plus intensive outpatient treatment..no license..so it's hard but I don't think about herion anymore..alcohol is harder for me to quit..so hang in there bro & don't fail drug tests..they don't play..it does get way better after about 4-5 months..sleep & eat fine..you got this & thanks Derek..I'm paying for my mistakes last year but glad I'm clean & getting it ALL out of the way..stay strong

Michelle Fitch thank you..I know I shouldn't even drink a beer but alcohol is sooo hard for me to quit..way harder than dope (after the first few weeks of withdrawals, nothing is worse than being dope sick) but I guess cause it's everywhere & so easy to get..I drank everyday for 20 yrs..I'm overwhelmed sometimes with probation in 4 counties & trying to pay fines & get there & to drug tests..it's crazy but trying the best I can

Kurt, I don't know if you'll see this or not.. but anyone who does.. this is my short (or trying to keep it short) story.. husband got started on pain pills from work. Then after childbirth I got started. I never thought it would turn into what it did.. this addiction grabs you and does NOT let go! My husband and I struggled for years.. I finally went to a doctor (after I almost died from a perforated ulcer, and had to have 4 pints of blood because I was so sick).. suboxone saved our lives! We did exactly as the Dr said and didn't abuse the meds. (P.s. I even ended up pregnant with our second daughter and swapped to subbutex, my baby came out perfectly healthy!) If you commit to it.. you can beat this monster. I am living proof! Nothing beats waking up and feeling normal without having to call your dealer to even attempt to feel normal.. it's amazing how life changing it can be if you let it be! Stay strong Kurt and anyone else who may read this! Xoxox

I just saw your video for the first time on your seventh day getting cleaned from heroin. I’m Not a user But I do have family members that have used heroin. My brother at the age of 21 passed away from a heroin overdose. We don’t talk about that as a family but there is a big scar that won’t go away. It was a long struggle to get my sister clean and while using it she lost her children, she lost family for while, she lost trust from everyone and she had to do jail time more than once. She’s been clean for more than 15 years and now she has her grown daughters, grandchildren And her family back. Now we can celebrate holidays all together without fear that she will steal again. There is hope to recover from this and see that life can be much better. It’s never too late. I pray for your brother and wife. I can see they are still struggling with the ugly beast. Hang in there don’t give up on them. Will keep watching your videos keep me posted on their well-being and of yours of course. be careful and don’t fall back, stay focus on your recovery. you Matter !!!!!

Your missis is a babe kirt 💖💖 you can see you both love each other to death xx I wish your whole family the best. Lovely family who have made bad choices. Same as my story. Just got on the wrong path and now want to better ourselves. I’ve just found out I’m autistic and adhd. They say a lot of people are suffering undiagnosed with these type of illnesses and that can lead to addiction as people just feel empty and different to everyone else, like they have just never truly felt like other people do. I’m starting to believe we are special people if we can get on the right take. Take care, love to your families🙏💖 Becky

Hey Kurt..., Bud it's hard for me to talk to you directly. I feel like I've talked to you on countless occasions, because your so much like my little brother. You and Derek are so much like my brother and I it's kinda disturbing bro. I quit like Derek. I have the mind frame of Derek. But my little brother has well the frustration and the anger that you have. He himself has woken up in an ambulance and .he is also in and out of jail. I think he is 3 months clean. Life is just now getting better for him. But he stuck to his guns. His secondary wasn't come (autocorrect wtf.. coke*) it was meth. But the little shit kept going. Kept fighting. Today he got news that a family member is giving him another shot at work. I'm trying to get him to watch more of these videos because I truly believe that you and him could connect well. He had the same experience in jail. Your brother is why I ended up feeling like I could get clean. I prayed like he told me to and asked God to put it where I couldn't get to it. hang on to your brother. Listen to him. Us older brothers are smarter than you think. BTW Derek my brother and I had our own landscaping business going on as well. Drugs ruined that for us. Stay strong fam.

Keep going this time my brother, you CAN make it! I've watched my wife do it....even when she went through so many relapses with me! We both have Hep C and while she was clean and taking her meds, (we both had a year and a half completely clean) having to inject her with Interferon, triggererd me and I lost my 18 mos... since then, and that was years and years ago I have NOT illegally purchased drugs! Unfortunately I stay on Methadone Maintenance. Keep doing what you are doing, hit those meetings! You can do it, I know MANY who have!

Been watching ur videos for a yr now and I love to see that u n ur bro r doing well. One thing I wanna highlight here that u guys have done also; methadone and other substitutes suck and they only prolong ur addiction and use and postpone the inevitable. I for one have not only not managed to quit da damn mmt but I ended up shooting da damn pills up. My regular dose I get from da clinic is 100mgs and I shoot up 200+mgs at once. Use dope whenever I come across somethig good n strong but cuz of da drug tests at da clinic, which could end up in me getting kicked out n losing my daily mmt dose, and da fact that I got my fix secured and can count on it being given to me daily, I continue to do this shit. This shit caused me to lose my veins which were so obvious n big n healthy that i never needed a tie to pop my veins up for a decade until a yr ago when after just 2-3 mths of not even daily shooting up mmt, my arms have been stripped clean of veins. It's nasty n dangerous n ridiculously hard to come off da damn thing and as much as i see what's doing to me, losing my pro hockey career, losing my great airline job, dropping my phd just before graduation, etc. I simply cannot stop. I wish someone locked me in rehab and kept me away from da shit until i get my freakin brains back!!! Just long enough to be able to go a day without dope, to teach me how to do this!!! I'm going down fast and my days r numbered and i can't see a way outa this. Thing is no matter how sick i am i can't let my family see me like that just like i can't let them see me high or using or nodding out like a freakin junky that i am!!! It's bad! Stay strong guys and keep posting for it's helpful to both u and us! God bless!

Hey man just came across this video surfing through some of your other videos just speaking on the part where you guys are talking about the Suboxone being in jail and stuff I can relate and just say that I think it's easier for me to go through it in jail or prison than it has been for me to try to do it on the street on the street I know what I got to do to get better I've never seemed to have enough to Foley stay away from it I would always end up giving in and going to get something even if I went through a detox or a program and end up leaving and going and getting high the one and only place where you got to just accept it and go through it is in jail or prison but shout out to your brother I hope he's doing good I hope your doing good I'm just coming back myself got to hop on the wagon fell off there for a little bit
