for me a green flag is definitely the ability to be alone without being lonely and to balance my quiet time with beautiful relationships with friends, family, colleagues etc and to be able to let go of the identification with thoughts as they arise. Seeing my thoughts as 'clouds' passing through, and my true Self as the vast sky which holds space for these thoughts to visit, to come and go, has been a wonderful practice. Often asking myself as thoughts arise "who does this belong to?" and "what age am I [with this thought]?" has also been great. For example, if a heavy thought arises and I question it "what age am I?" I often get a specific age (like 7 for example) and I realise it's not the 'current me' thinking this thought, but rather a hurt or sad or lost 7 year old within me that's thinking it - it helps to give me leads on the inner work I need to focus on too. Letting go as a practice {see work like Dr David R. Hawkins} in general has also been and continues to be helpful and transformative for me too.

My first time saying no was to my neighbor. Was back to back asked for a favor despite being sick. I said no and the first thing done was a guilt trip. Then no more contact, no more hi’s or anything. Some people actually treat a no as the end of the world. Once you stop giving them the comfort that you’ll always bend at their will they’ll LITERALLY stop bothering you forever. Now I actually feel pretty at peace about it, I was sick and I said no that’s all there is to it. It shouldn’t have to turn into a guilt trip. Now I just feel bad for anyone around him with people pleasing tendencies.

One trick that I came up with for outward boundaries that may sound silly but actually worked for me: I wrote NDAs for myself. Like genuinely wrote up an NDA about something I needed to keep to myself, printed it out, and signed it. I remind myself that I need to honor that whenever I go to speak about it. The only exception that I allow myself is my closest friend, my therapist, and my psychiatrist.

I watch a lot of self actualization content, I do a lot of shadow work, It is refreshing to see a video about green flags. it is always about red flags unhealed trauma, no one takes time to review the progress. I appreciate that you made this video.
@Gomba13

Self-actualization is not about fixing what's wrong. It's about leveraging what is right. There is a big difference between the two, because you can't self-actualize until you have fixed what's wrong. Self-actualization is having the luxury of unleashing your talents and skills because there is nothing left to hold you back.

I had to stop watching this video, because I thought I would feel better afterwards, but actually, the opposite happened. I either know that I don´t do these things or do not have the tools to evaluate them objectively. I know, the author states we should see this list as something we aspire to, but it rather feels like I have to work on sooo many things and it overwhelms me.

Oh Jordan! I'm listening to this list with a huge smile on my face. This video makes me happy! I put myself under a microscope so often, challenging myself to improve that I forget to do inventory of how amazing I am doing. Yes, there's still plenty of room for improvement, but the fact that I am now nodding at these green flags is a huge reminder of how far I've come in these past few years. I AM (We are!) doing the work and it shows. This is a wonderful reminder at the end of the year. Thank you, my friend. I appreciate this video, it's helped me to see I am indeed doing better than I realised, and areas I could do with some more work on. I appreciate you talking about the difference between the 'comfort zone' and being comfortable. For many years, decades maybe, I didn't realise that I didn't feel safe when I relaxed and so ended up very burnt out with various health conditions. It's ongoing work to recognise and honour my body's/minds cues for rest.

1. Props to the little corn Lego man. [*Seriously* wondering if any other little treasures are hanging out back there.] 2. The way you articulate is a gift, and I am SO grateful that these videos are here, that they are multiplying, and that they are FREE ❤ [THANK YOU!!] 3. Please continue pressing in about sobriety and caring for our physical bodies. Your whole-person approach is easy to grasp and apply; and my life is becoming quickly enriched because of the many ways you plant those seeds. 4. Can you recommend a good video about oversharing? Or maybe becoming more adept at under-sharing? I STRUGGLE with relationships, because engaging in small talk is foreign to me. People seem to love my ability to listen and ask probing questions, but seem uninterested in my natural conversation. 5. So glad you mentioned reading for self-improvement; I was going to suggest a green flag #25. 6.. Great list; love the raw videos. Thank you for continuing in your purposeful service. It’s so interesting that this video came out just after I wrote down the things I’ve been thankful for in 2023 and the last phrase I wrote down was being grateful for keeping the promises I made to myself and that included all the other 23 things you mentioned. And though I can still reduce my online time (it can never be too little I think), looking back and seeing that all of the above is a present reality in my life for a few years now is really uplifting and even more inspiring. Thanks for being in time with this video as well as for discovering your channel last year. It was truly one of the achievements of 2023 for me. Wish you a very happy and successful 2024 ✨

I felt bad about being very far off achieving some of these, but then I realised - they're only maladaptive patterns if they're no longer useful. If you are still in positions of genuine powerlessness, you can still require some of the "red flags" to survive amid madness. I'm thinking of the fantasising here. Some of the flags I can work on, and a few of them must stay because they currently hold no alternative. The one about having a friend/lover/family member you can be really real around? That feels like other people's flags. I can't make people accept me, and I meet no-one who is that open and embracing.

Thank you! (recently subbed). A nice way to start the new year looking back at all the hard work I put in my personal development (being sober, eating right, no more attention seeking, no corn, no promiscuity, , enjoying nature hiking, more grounded in reality, regulating my emotions, making peace with my past, I trust and rely on myself, etc.). An important one for me the coming year is up my time on my spiritual development. I have been a little bit lazy doing my practice. Aaaand watching the shadow work course of course😉 Because I always am thinking about how I can better myself and being a bit hard on myself, I sometimes forget how far I´ve come. So starting 2024 with these green flags and looking forward to growing even more makes me feel good and smile 🙂🙏🏽

Glad you remembered to include #9 at the end :) I have always loved reading and learning from the perspectives, stories, and wisdom of others. I have two friends who are skeptical of reading too much. The argument is basically that one shouldn’t outsource so much. One of them says that when he reads, it’s usually already things he knows anyway. Maybe it’s packaged in different language, but it’s like he’s remembering something he already knew, it feels familiar, therefore he doesn’t need to read it in the first place. The other friend is very much into personal development and healing past wounds, but doesn’t prioritize reading, though he sometimes will listen to select audiobooks. He has a very good bullshit detector, so I think he gets frustrated with a lot of content and always sees the negatives about someone’s content. It’s not that I DON’T see the things he sees, but I choose to glean what I can from something/someone and leave the rest because I think everyone has a unique perspective with something I can learn. To me, discernment is the answer, not turning my back on my love for learning from others’ perspectives. I do think I tend to outsource too much, and I am working to balance that and have come a long way toward being able to tune in with my inner self and come to my own thoughts and insights on things. But both of these people act as though they are so sure of their opinions on this. And it feels almost like an attack on my sense of self because I’ve always had such an ingrained love of gathering information from others. It feels so right to me to try to gather all perspectives and combine them with my own life experience to develop my view of the world, which is always evolving as I gather more information and personal insight. As much as I think trusting my own inner wisdom is important, it also feels self-important to think it’s not wise to also try to learn from other perspectives. So, as much as I generally believe that everyone is different, so what’s right for me isn’t necessarily right for you, it’s very hard for me not to be of the opinion that EVERYone SHOULD develop a habit of reading a diverse set of books. This a longwinded way of asking, do you think it is different for everyone? Or they are locked in some way of thinking? Or I am locked in some way of thinking? I have come to the point of accepting that they know what is right for them so I don’t try to persuade them. But it’s just something I’ve thought about repeatedly over the last year since meeting both of them. I have even started to question whether I shouldn’t be so obsessed with learning. Maybe there is some value in taking a step back. Yet, I also feel that this is something ingrained in who I am, and if I dim that passion (which I already feel I have allowed myself to do), that dims a part of me that makes me feel alive. One other element that perhaps colors their perspective is that I know they both struggle to focus when they read, which they find very frustrating. Maybe this makes them convince themselves they don’t need to read. Because I do suspect they both want to. The thing is, I really struggle with this same thing too. It is so frustrating. It takes me so long and so much effort to get through a book. But my response has been to be determined that I will get better eventually. Not to convince myself I don’t need it. Not trying to make myself out to be better than them at all. Just truly trying to understand how to look at this. What the correct balance of absorbing from others vs trusting your personal insights. I didn’t mean for this to get so long! 😂 If anyone has any perspectives on this one way or the other, I would love to hear :)

You must be like my wife an “INFP“ So beautiful.❤😂 My advice to you is to do a deep dive into your personality type to fully understand yourself. Then you can learn the personality types of your friends which will help you understand how each individual functions. It has done wonders for me and my wife, understand of one another and people around us better. BTW with reading and listen using critical thinking you can never learn enough 🤓

@@ChosenDisruptor Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and for your advice! Being “seen” as something/someone recognizable to someone actually made my day 😊 I didn’t think anyone would read it because it was so long, and I almost deleted it because I was embarrassed by how long it got 😂 So interesting that you pegged me as an INFP! Can I ask why? Admittedly, I only have a shallow understanding of Meyers-Briggs. When I was a teenager I loved the idea of personality types, but then at one point made a pivot into being super frustrated with Meyers-Briggs. The thought that something as complex as humans could simply be boxed into one of 16 categories irked me. I think because I always read that you can’t be more than one, yet at the time, tests would oscillate between labeling me an INTJ and an INFJ. I completely left Meyers-Briggs behind for years and much later after a lot of healing and internal transformation, became curious about it again and had very much leaned into the INFJ side and was definitely not an INTJ. It made a lot of sense that the healing I had experienced had landed me in more of a heart space than the head space I used to exist in to cope. But THEN, at some point the things I would read about INFJs I started to question, so I recently took another test (after even more healing) and it came back as INFP! What’s interesting is that reading about the type, and knowing who I have developed into (I would say I am the closest to my true self as I have ever been), that description resonated 100%. Now, I don’t actually remember why it resonated and what the INFP is supposed to be like because I only read a description once for fun. But I’ve also learned that the different elements of Meyers-Briggs have a lot more layers than I thought as a teenager, and I would definitely be curious to learn about it more deeply. I got away from all the personality type stuff because it weirdly started to be a way to feed my ego and I found it not to be healthy for awhile. But now I feel like I am much more in tune with myself and not as much needing something else to tell me WHO I am. So it could be helpful to do a deep dive. One thing I do I know, is that I often feel confused about who I am, even with as much progress as I’ve made with understanding myself. I’ve always felt like a walking contradiction because I have so many conflicting parts and my personality just feels extremely fluid. It’s like I can choose who I want to be but I can never settle on one thing. And I used to be at odds with that because I was trying to figure out the ONE way I am. But have begun to accept that in itself is part of who I am. I guess it makes life more interesting. If you’ve made it this far (😂), have you done any reading into any other personality type formats, or mostly Meyers-Briggs?

No convincing necessary, that a person can and does go outta there way to share what works for them is alot( many ppl don’t say shit, they are either not interested in your progress or don’t have the balls to risk you getting offended in hopes you do better cuz they want to remain ahead; sorry to be so negative). And as you may already know your progress your way of life is the greatest example and ppl tend to understand you better that way.

Gratitude for your generous time and expertise. Psychology always was and is a field of interest due to the complimentary interest of human emotion. There isn't a soul who hasn't suffered some form of trauma. I've learned throughout life to accept, analyze, introspect, and change by seeking the root cause of behaviour responses, first of myself. By dedicating time throughout development to internally pinpointing the source cause of thought, genuinely, without fear of facing the darkest side, one finds healing an available choice. Your videos are a generous aide for everyone. Gratefully, Chari.

I'm sure I'm going to refer to it multiple times in the future to continue to track my growth progress so thanks you for all of your efforts!! And also can I just say I appreciate you sharing your approach to social media as well? I've been debating posting more content in relationship to a creativity coaching side hustle I've begun - one that truly lights me up and feels aligned with my mission - but the overwhelm of being online so much AND spending too much time trying to have "perfect" videos has kept holding me back. Your approach feels like it would work for me and I still consider all of your content highly informative and professional ( "red flag" included 😆) so I am very inspired by you!

I am a very new sub,i found your channel a few weeks ago,and i left a comment on a video just before xmas ,and I forgot to say thank you for taking the time to respond and welcome me to the channel. I will definitely be checking out your shadow work playlist. I am an adult child of a narcissist, and have done a lot of work on myself, but realise I'm still a work in progress. I really enjoyed this video, because I'd say if I'm being honest i have just over half of the green flags, and found the ones that need work motivating. Anyway without blowing too much smoke,I think your channel is possibly the best I've found all year. I wish you a successful 2024 working on your new course. And thank you for putting out practical advice i can work with from yt.

An hour with a great therapist is $120-150 in most major cities, and this course took me four years to research and 7 months to film and produce. It's also 10% of the price of my 1-1 mentorships. I nonetheless know that these things aren't affordable to everybody, which is why I made a six hour playlist on shadow work for free for anybody who can't afford the course. Still plenty of gold there, and the course students have been saying great things on the inside. Wishing you well.

This video is so helpful for this part of my journey again. @Jordanthornton Hello, I hope you're doing well! I want to thank you for making all of these video. Life can be strange in how it attracts things to that you're going through. I recently been going through my own healing journey as I haven't been able to access therapy. After a very hard experience, it's been a painful journey that has resulted in a lot of inner peace. I felt a part of me recently died and I'm okay with it, or at leats that part of myself is not longer dictating the direction of my patterns. I sort of realised I was on a depressed auto-pilot mode for at least 20 years without ever being fully conscious of it. Now at 30 I feel my life truly began. Watching your video makes me laugh a little bit, as I have found myself doing all of these behaviours. Being aware of them have made feel my growth and how much more inner peace or calm I have within myself. If you don't mind, I have a question for you. Would you mind expanding in your definition of god? One of the things that I keep from my past is that I'm still an atheist and that still gives me a lot of inner peace. It may sound weird for some people, but I also would define myself as a buddhist, once I had a class about it and I always remember my teacher saying that this is not a religion. It was not until this reborn process that I realised my new mentality was adopting a buddhist life philosophy and sort of understood what my teacher may have meant with that. Not sure if this would classified as a definition of "god", as even though I live with this new philosophy, I also found a lot of peace and feel a sense of reality living as an atheist. I genuinely love to hear your definition. Regardless of this, I really want to thank you for your videos. It was the final push for me to finally take control and decide that I can try and heal myself. I bough one of your book recommendations that I feel is going to help and challenge me in the best way possible. I also plan to read more after that one! Have a good day and take care!
