Speed 8 is back at Le Mans! I saw this car during Monza Historic in 2019 and had a little chat with a team member. One of the best experience of my life 🙌🏼 And the car is absolutely beautiful

Great onboard video. Thanks for the upload. I just want to comment on the bit about lap times, he’s not pushing enough, braking hard enough, etc. some of these cars are now worth huge amounts of money. Spare parts would all have to be remade from scratch and at a huge cost. The drivers cannot afford to damage these things. However I was seriously impressed with how hard some of these guys were racing in the other video. The Bentley is probably worth millions now so huge kudos that it’s still allowed to race. With regards to lap time. The cars are not always being driven by professional race drivers. Sometimes owner drivers, sometimes wealthy owners who run the cars for fun. However to be about 10 seconds off what this car did in period is very impressive. He was pushing hard and most of us would be exhausted after a few laps in this thing. Agreed most of the lap difference is probably in braking though, also I think the car topped 200+in period so they may be running more downforce to make the car more stable. Great field, great racing. Thanks again.

The telemetry is phantastic. I find it especially interesting the driver is only applying about 50 % brake pressure and even that for just a short amount of time. It makes sense to apply the highest amount at the highest speed and than releasing the brakes as the car slows down as it reduces the risk of the wheels locking up. Does the car have ABS ? But it still surprises me he never gets over 50-55 %. In general, would you brake different with an ABS car compared to non-ABS ? I know you can brake into a corner which suggest more progressive breaking.
@fingerprints2983 Жыл бұрын
It is done to preserve the brakes, during 24h of Le Mans, brakes needs to be changed one time, during qualifying brakes are being used fully.

Hard to believe. I'm getting old.🧓 I watched this car bring the privateer Audi's to their knees, back in the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours. I was a Junior in High School

@@thelarry383 I know. Plus, Team Joest mechanics worked on the car.
@bartstockschen19872 жыл бұрын
@@thelarry383 No it wasn't. It was a completely newly designed car. The only audi thing about this car was the engine, the rest was all own design. Yes they did incorporate design features from the R8C, but according to the lead engineer that was only some minor aerodinamic features they took from the R8C's design plans and implemented into their own car. Apart from the engine and gearbox not a single piece from the Bentley was the same as the Audi. It's just an urban myth because the first version of the Bentley looked so much alike the R8C.

The driver was driving about 70-80% of the Bentley Speed 8's capabilities. This can be seen from his driving. You know why, because if he was going faster, he could seriously crash into the gang

.... The pole for this car was a 3:32:84 set by Tom Kristensen in the 2003 24 Hours Of Lemans, They aren't going to push an old priceless racecar to the absolute limit and risk crashing it.. They are just taking it out so that some of the younger fans have a chance to see some Lemans history.. Then there's people like you complaining that a nearly 20 yo racecar is setting an identical lap to brand new racecars, even though the Bentley isn't even close to full push.. Just enjoy the fact that you got to see this car lap Lemans onboard IRL instead of just a video game.. Some people are never happy smh. Dumb comment.
