Watching this makes me remember what I went through.. The pain having to roll off the couch to my knees to pull myself to my feet to not be able to take the pain and fall back on the couch.. I had my surgery within 18 hours I have permanent damage but I live a normal life.. Feb 26 2018..3 days and it's 5 years.. Thanks for making this video

Thankyou for this video. You've described my attacks to a T. I've never heard of anybody else who has it. Finally diagnosed in 2018. Being young with 4 children I refused the surgery due to risks and not knowing anything about CES. And here I am, 38 yrs old, a Nanna to my beautiful 2yo grandson, awaiting my 1st of many operations tomorrow morning. Hindsight is a wonderful thing x

This had me in tears. I ended up with CES 3yrs ago luckily had been told the symptoms and to go straight to a&e. Within less than 24hrs I was in surgery

Me too Fiona, and like most, never heard of it, never knew how serious it could be. We're both very lucky. The consequences of delayed surgery I'm sure you're more than aware of now. I walked 3 miles to the A and E the day my gp told me to "get to hospital". I was in Agony by the time I got there, but I still had no clue what was going on. So important for medical staff to be much more aware of this terrible bloody syndrome. Even more so for people who suffer with chronic back issues.

I also live in the USA and have had ces for 18 years. I called for an ambulance and because I had no insurance, was given demoral and released without an MRI.

Really seeing how blessed I was to have had a doctor that knew something was not right the second I said I was having urinating. Was in surgery 13 hours after I arrived to the hospital and frankly, if he has made the call, it woulda been sooner. The hospital staff just was dragging their feet. But I can see I’m still lucky. After 3 weeks post surgery, I am no longer having to cath myself and I am transitioning from a walker to a cane. Still a long road ahead of me, but it definitely could be so much worse.

I have my sister in law suffering of this CES but they don°t mention any surgery. What will happened if the surgery would not done?

Tough one to be fair. Guidelines suggest that it is treated surgically ASAP, although there have been few case studies of disc resorption and the disc material getting absorbed. However, bear in mind that If nerves are depleted of oxygen and nutrient for too long, then they are never restored to previous functionality. Therefore, we suggest all patient to have an emergent operation. Hope your sister in law does well.

You forgot to add the countless visits to the doctors before hand being fobbed off with medication over and over again, the emergency department not taking the call because you are in agony but you haven’t wet yourself so can’t be that bad. Then day later yep wet myself, emergency surgery oh the damage is to bad you will have life changing disability.
