I've lived in Cannon Beach for 3 years. I am very blessed to live here because I am not a super wealthy person. I love Cannon Beach because it is very safe, I don't even lock my bike up. I love the smell of the fresh salty air, and the beautiful scenic atmosphere. Cannon Beach is a good place for introverts, very quiet, safe, relaxing, and beautiful.

Beware Austin not everyone is as nice or trusting as you. If you dont want a long walk home or the cost of buying a new bike lock it up!!! Or maybe by now in 2023 you have changed your habits..I am very envious of where you live cheers from Western Australia

Thanks for confirming my sense regarding bikes - as in I don’t need to *triple lock* my bike. Just do as I would near where I live in North Portland, which means lock things up every single time - just one U-lock, not two…. Enough to keep people from just hopping on and riding off with your bike. *I was afraid the coast would be a whole lot worse than the area right around home.*

I live and work at the Cannon Beach Conference Center. I've lived here for almost a year now and I can't recommend visiting Cannon Beach enough. It's an absolutely magical place, this video could hardly scrape the surface of all there is to see, eat, and do here (and that's not anything against it, there's just SO much to do here). Found this video about a month back when planning our Oregon coast vacation. Today we made it to canon beach and had the wings at the place you recommended half salt and pepper and half Buffalo. They did not disappoint at all. They were so good. Then headed over to Ecola to hike to crescent beach. That was a good hike and well worth the trek for the views. Thanks for doing what you’re doing because it made our day perfect!

You’ll want to spend time in Astoria, then - about 30 miles/50 Km north - as that’s where it went down…. Including the house proper. It’s a tricky deal to see it. It took two excursions from the hotel to finally get a quick picture, then right back down the hill…

I practically grew up in Cannon Beach. My grandparents own a home there. They used to live there full time, but now they rent it out to vacationers, and they'll go stay there whenever they feel like it. From when I was 7 to about 18, my dad, step mom, two brothers, grandparents, and I, would stay there EVERY summer, all summer long, and we'd go there for nearly every Christmas. My dad, step mom, and brothers actually lived across the street from my grandparents, in a little 2 bedroom house for a couple years, that my grandparents owned for a long time. So in order to see my dad, I'd have to go down there ALL the time, when I was about 7 or 8 years old. Cannon Beach, is my all time favorite place in the world. Compared to my home town, where I still live, it's like heaven. There's TONS of crime in my home town, and pure violence, almost every where you go. Cannon Beach is the exact opposite. It's quiet, the people are nice, and friendly, the air is clean. The ONLY bad experience I've had with Cannon Beach, is when I was like 15 or 16, when my step brother who was about 14 at the time, my half brother, who was about 10 or 11, and I, had walked down to the beach, just the 3 of us, and my step brother, and I, decided to go for a swim in the ocean. Apparently, there's white poles all along the beach, and if there's a red flag on them, that means there are rip currents, and it's not safe to swim. We didn't KNOW that. We were up to our waists at first, but then, after not much time had gone by, we realized the water was up to our necks, and the shore had gotten further away, and our little brother, who was playing on the shore, appeared a lot smaller to us. We both looked at one another, and said "uh oh" I said to him "let's go" and we started swimming as hard as we could. After a few minutes, the shore didn't look like it was getting closer, it looked like it was getting FURTHER. That's when I knew we were in trouble. I looked to my right, and my step brother was not next to me anymore. All of a sudden, I hear him SCREAMING my name, and I looked back, and he was MAYBE 20 feet behind me, with a look of sheer horror on his face. "HELP ME!!!" he said. But the problem was, I was a slim kid, and he was a more heavy kid. I knew, there was absolutely NO way, I could carry him on my back, and swim against the EXTREMELY strong rip currents, and bring us both in safely. Plus, I knew he was panicking, and might drown me, while trying to use me as a flotation device. So I screamed to him, that I'd get help, and told myself, that maybe if I swim underwater as deep as I could, MAYBE I'd get under the current. So that's what I did. I kept going down, and swam under as long as I could hold my breath, and came back up for air, and going back down, over, and over. It was extremely exhausting. It took me a good 5 minutes or more to get to shore, and by the time I got there, I could barely walk or catch my breath. I ran up to my little brother who was still playing on shore, and with every breath I had in me, tried to tell him to get help. He didn't understand what I meant, and I looked out to sea, and when I went to point, and tell him my step brother was stuck out there, you could see WAY out there just the top of my step brothers head in the water. My little brother started screaming, and crying, trying to get someone to help. Someone called 911, and a few minutes later, the lifeguards truck, and ambulance were going in the wrong direction. The guy on the phone with 911, kept screaming over the phone "WRONG WAY, WRONG WAY!!" Then out of NOWHERE, this young guy, bolts out to the water, and swam like Michael Phelps, and was able to save my step brother's life. I'll NEVER forget that day, and will NEVER swim in that water again. My step brother ended up telling my step mom, that I left him for dead, and only saved myself. My step mom was angry with me for a long time. My dad stuck up for me, and told her, that had I gone back for my step brother, we'd both be dead. Which is 100% true. He also told her that I actually saved my step brother's life, by being able to get myself to shore, and getting help. I never thought of myself as saving his life. The young guy, who risked his life to swim out to sea, and bring my step brother in, saved his life, not me. They put the story in the Cannon Beach newspaper, along with a picture of my step brother, and the young guy who saved him, that they took of them, a couple days later, when they set up a meet, so we could all thank the young guy. He turned out to be an off duty life guard.

What is the best time of the year to go to Canon Beach for vacation
@cmcproductions262 жыл бұрын
@@amadegan7068 I would say summertime for sure. But I love that place so much, that I would go all year round. But summertime the weather is warmer, and there seems to be more going on. The only thing I don't like about summers there, is there's a lot of tourists.

Not sure if you know this, but, once you reach Ecola State Park and pass the little booth where you pay and turn left to park in that huge parking lot, there used to be a staircase built along the side of the mountain there where you could walk down to crescent beach in a matter of 1-2 minutes. Unfortunately, it completely eroded away I believe in the mid-2000s and now the only way down is via the trail you took, which I've taken many times.
