Thanks for posting this. We drove the Oregon coast a few years ago from Glasgow, Scotland, staying in Gold beach, yachats, manzanita and cannon beach. This is the best video I've seen about the Oregon coast. You've put us in the mood for going back again. 🏴🇺🇲

You drove from Glasgow to Oregon? That's impressive. 😀 My Scottish ancestors took a boat, in 1849, ended up in Kincardine, Ontario. Their surnames were pretty famous, but I don't want to disclose them here. I can say that she was born in the castle of the Duke of Argyle because her father was the Gameskeeper, her mother was a domestic, a storm was coming in so the Duke insisted they stay and Isabella was born there. One of their 7 sons, my Great-Great Grandfather and G-G-Grandmother, from Nova Scotia, moved to Minnesota. My Clan Chief is coming across the pond this summer for a festival. Guess I have to order a kilt.

Never tired of it and makes me appreciate the beauty of my state. Perhaps now that I have more free time I can stop and smell the roses instead of making it to my next appointment.

I think it's important to mention that the reason Oregon has SO much beautiful coastline is because in 1913, the Oregon Beach Bill decreed that all land within sixteen vertical feet of the average low tide mark belongs to the people of Oregon, and guarantees that the public has free and uninterrupted use of the beaches along Oregon's 363 miles of coastline. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to governor Oswald West! If you ever get a chance, you should visit the state park named after him - a walking path through old growth forest that crosses a beautiful little creek and leads to a gorgeous cove with a sandy beach popular with surfers. One of my favorite places in the world.

How many travel related videos I see where, you keep wondering where are they. Why don't they show a map. He is very good with the camera. We used to trailer around a little bit in our little 21' trailer. Editing -- Even on my channel, before I had dropped off for church media ministry, it took many long hours to do a serious video. And I use a fairly professional editor (Vegas Pro). I remember when we gave end time seminars (about what the bible clearly shows about our time), where we were filming nearly every day, and then editing it for the next day; it took a great toll on us. But anything to help those that don't know. I grew up an atheist/scientist/engineer, but it was science that brought me to the bible, and the Bible brought me past nominal Christiandom to Adventist. Such a beautiful shot of y'all driving into Hebo. Just to the right of the 101 Junction with Hyw 22 is a red, two story building. That was the Hebo Elementary School. I attended there 1st through 3rd grade starting in 1959. We lived in Air Force housing a mile or two below the summit of Mt. Hebo. The Air Force had an early warning radar site on top of the mountain. It was a boy's paradise living on the mountain for 3 years. BTW, the building on the right hand side of 101 is the Hebo Inn. A fantastic place for many, many years with some of the best clam chowder on the coast. People have tried to restore the Inn, but so far it hasn't worked out for anyone.

He said that he was getting so much grief from the inspectors that he really couldn't go any further. He also said the whole area was a haven for druggies. Sadly Dave passed away. Great job! Was raised outside of Nehalem. Near Manzanita and what a special area with so many things to do and see. Near the ocean, bay and inland. Have driven the entire coast and it's truly all encompassing you could take months to see it all. Enjoyed your video and insightful appreciation and to do it in only two weeks. Impressed.

Thank you for the feedback - especially as someone who was raised there! I agree, the trip really should take a few months so you could spend enough time at every area. 😎

Oh no! I was so looking forward to seeing you drive by the small town of Winchester Bay on 101 with the beautiful lighthouse and Marina and the City of North Bend because I lived there 15 years and miss it. But you didn't show it or mention those two towns. The Mile long North Bend Bridge on 101 that enters you into North Bend is pretty famous too for the viewpoint . Coos Bay is after that. The most Beautiful place on the Oregon Coast is Shore Acres. But you have to get off 101 to the coastal town of Charleston to see it. Next time you visit that area, you have to check it out and the Botanical Gardens. You will love it. Loved the video!
@PlantBasedJan8 ай бұрын
I did get Winchester Bay - the marina and aerial views of the spots for RVs. I agree with you - I LOVED that area but didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time at all in any one place. Try this - at 23:42 in the video I start at North Bend and then show the Umpqua Lighthouse (and river drive - wow). I think that’s the lighthouse you mention? I am planning to go back and get that area in far more detail. The Dunes, Florence, North Bend. A couple other people have mentioned how beautiful Shore Acres is, so your note seals the deal. Thank you for the feedback!
@renmuffett8 ай бұрын
Thanks! I'll check. Yes, if you love flowers, you will love the Botanical gardens at Shore Achres as well as the Ocean crashing against the rock cliffs. . Behind the old house out of view of the main garden, there's a rose garden. The Oriental Pond with Water lilies is so lovely. I went there nearly every week for 15 years. Had a yearly pass. So much amazing history there. Blessings.

You have presented a very useful video for curious people like me. Special interest for me was the rock formations on the beaches. As a physicist who has worked on crystal formation and crystals, the rock formation gave me a lot to think on the early formative period of Earth, our common home.
@PlantBasedJan3 ай бұрын
You have a totally different perspective with your knowledge - but we all appreciate the beauty of the formations and our amazing planet! Thanks for the comment! I have another video with a “glass mountain” and a gypsum cave you might like - it’s Cathedral Valley loop in Utah. Intense drive!

Good job on the video! You even covered a thing or two in my area that most travelers never know about. One thing though...Yaquina ( your Newport segment) is actually pronounced yuh-KWIN-uh. If you hear anybody in the area calling it yuh-KEEN-uh, that is a clear sign that either the person is just traveling through or they moved here a short time ago and haven't learned the proper pronunciations.
@PlantBasedJan9 ай бұрын
Thank you and appreciate the corrections! I did try. I was obviously asking the wrong people. Perhaps it's a good thing to keep the pronunciations to the locals so you can spot the visitors?? 😉
@jeanad.47039 ай бұрын
Pronunciations aside, I have lived in various towns on the coast since 1977. Part of the job I have held for 14 yrs requires speaking with travelers about the place where I work. But I feel it's my duty to make sure they don't miss anything else great in my town, so some conversations are much longer than necessary! 🙂
@dananorth8959 ай бұрын
The PNW has multitudes of native American names all over. Even as a native born I still get some mistaken. But it's always interesting to see/hear out-of-towners trying to pronouce local names according to their own regional dialect/pronunciation. 😎

Once upon a time there was a comic con inside the Tillamook Air Museum. It was two days in that blimp hangar and it was so cold! But fun! I grew up in Newport and I see you got the Yaquina pronunciation note so I won't get into that, but rather get into the amazing job you did covering this amazing coast line! The sand dunes! These were the inspiration for Frank Herbert's Dune books.
