This was really great :). And I’m sitting here typing this from home. A place called Dublin. And I’m so proud of the fact that it’s the capital city of the first country in the world to legalize marriage for everyone following a vote of its people. And the fact that 15% of our citizens were born outside of Ireland, coming from every part of the globe, is pretty nifty ( good ). I recognized every cobble stone, and every blade of grass you walked on. And you were in Dublin Castle? 25, or so, years ago, I was sitting on a bench one summers day in the Castle. A man walked past. Dressed as a pirate. He said hello and I said hello. And with that, Morgan Freeman headed for a movie set.
@TheEvergreens2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kieron! Thanks so much for your message. We loved reading the story about Morgan Freeman! How cool is that. And so amazing that Ireland was the first country in the world to legalize marriage for everyone. Thanks for taking time to watch the video and comment. And if you are interested, I just uploaded one more Dublin vlog in case you'd like to check it out. Cheers! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH-nfWyYidClq7c

Totally get that! There's plenty of stuff where we live that locals never go to but tourists visit. I guess that's why tourist traps are for tourists :) But either way, we had a great time and enjoyed some good beers.

I have to hand it to Ireland and it's phenomenal marketing successes - The Guinness Storehouse and Temple Bar! For years I have advocated that tourists avoid them like the plaque! But even now I am reconsidering - your face on a pint, how cool is that? I'll have to go on my next visit! Whoever came up with that idea should get an award. And yet I grieve at the many other wonderful places they missed - actually probably walked past - the amazing Chester Beatty Museum behind Dublin Castle; the fabulous Marsh's Library ( a mini version of the Long Room at Trinity College); Dublin City Gallery (The Hugh Lane) with its amazing collection of Irish artists including the spectacular reconstructed studio of Francis Bacon; the former Irish parliament prior to the Act of Union, right across from the main entrance to Trinity College; the small but beautiful and oh so interesting Little Museum of Dublin right there on St. Stephen's Green. Other places they missed was the fantastic National Gallery of Ireland and the beautiful Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) housed in the historical building that was the Royal Hospital. Close by to IMMA is Kilmainham Gaol (yes, that's how we spell "jail") an amazing monument to Ireland's recent history. Croke Park, a modern historic stadium and a museum on all things GAA. Atmospheric Henrietta Street where Georgian Dublin was born with its tenement museum at No. 14. Not to mention the music venues (National Concert Hall) and numerous fabulous theaters and permanence spaces. And castles (yes, in Dublin) and fabulous hikes and walks. So come back ladies - lots of wonderful places to see, more than I can list here. And please tell me, that you are going to see more than the Titanic Belfast and Game of Thrones tour in NI. Please!

Ah yes...we know we missed SO many awesome sights on this trip. It was definitely a quick trip so with limited time, we did the more touristy things on our first visit. We can't wait to come back and explore more off the beaten path sights...those are always our favorite stops on trips. Thanks for all the good recommendations!!
