We FINALLY made it to Melbourne and decided to spend a full day exploring the city during the day and at night! 🏙️ We visited iconic spots such as; Flinders Station, Federation Square, Hosier Lane, AC/DC Lane, Fitzroy Gardens, the State Library, ACMI, Ian Potter: National Gallery of Victoria and the Winter Night Market at the Queen Victoria Market.
WHAT A DAY, we were knackered by the end of it but we had SO MUCH fun and loved Melbourne. We hope you enjoy watching 💙🚐

What a busy day. I love the balance you two provide. You appreciate and show the beauty of Australia's natural landscape, and then you explore and try to understand the bigger cities. Nice to see all aspects of what Aus has to offer.

Oh wow! I was commentating as you went. Melbourne / Melbin 😉 I was brought up in Melbourne, however, I lived and studied in Sydney for many years... That being said, I don't think any city will impress you the most as the city you were brought and taught up in... Loved all your visuals, eclectic and very Melbs. Wish you could have gone either Fitzroy or St Kinda way.... Anyway t'was beautiful! (especially with the jazz overtones) 🧡🧡

I love it when you do close up photography of the architecture with a slow pan. With the soft music it is ultra relaxing. If you could do it even longer, it would be even more incredible. Now, I am still trying to place the guy's accent.

Thanks so much for showing just how beautiful Melbourne is in your videotography (if that's a word😂😂). Melbourne is basically in my own backyard & yet I've learnt so much from both of you about it. I'm looking forward to spending a night in there next month to see Mamma Mia the musical. It all looks so pretty at night. As for the Miki cards, they're on a whole other level of confusion.😅😅 Safe travels 😊😊much love ❤❤

Thank you for the kind words! 💙 I bet the musical will be so much fun! 🎤💃 We actually saw on the news the other day that they'll be updating the Myki card system so you can pay with your normal debit/credit card instead... it should make it way easier. Hopefully they get it up and running soon 🙌

Once you get used to the hook turns you may like the safety aspect of turning right after all the through traffic has gone through. You’ve positioned yourself into the junction ready to make that turn, but over on the left so you’re not feeling pressured about sitting in the middle of the intersection waiting to dart around when there’s a gap in the traffic. (There is no The busier the traffic the more I appreciate that, especially with needing to give way to trams and cyclists as well. In a rush you could make a bad error. It’s like you’re the first one to go across the intersection from the traffic coming from the left street of the intersection.

That makes sense. After doing it we definitely feel more confident with it now! I think it's the fear of the unknown and city driving being a little more stressful in our van as it is. Once we'd done it we were like 'oh that's it, we worried about that for no reason!' 😅
@lilyandrose8557
@lilyandrose8557 Жыл бұрын
@@lydiaandwehan For sure, the fear of the unknown makes things stressful, you did great in your van! The first time I did it there was someone in front of me and I'd seen the sign and followed their lead. So that made it easier. Think of it as placing yourself at the head of the column of that left street incoming traffic. They wait for you to turn and go.

So negative about nearly everything. Hook turns are not stupid, they are there so traffic can flow freely and you still get to do your turn. In the box you become part of the other direction traffic flow. Has avoided lots of deaths as people used to turn in front of trams.
@lydiaandwehan

Definitely not negative about everything, we really loved our time in Melbourne! We're really sorry it came across that way, we felt we were pretty positive the whole day and shared how much we loved the city and vibes of the city. The choice of words 'stupid' was wrong for us to use to explain the hook turns, it was more about it feeling 'wrong' to us as it was so unfamiliar but as Wehan mentioned, there was no other way to do it so yep they're definitely the best thing to do to keep people safe. Appreciate the comment and criticism, apologies it came across that way.

Seriously, dude. I'm a Melbournian myself and on the contrary, I find it rather entertaining listening to visitors complain about our unique hookturns. It'd be worse if visitors came here and left the place thinking the place is downright boring and has little to offer at all. Just try and chill.

You drink coffee from a cup or glass . It is sacrilege (to me) to drink it from a take-away paper cup. Some laneways have greenery which I love and beautiful art. That lane is the most 'iconic' mostly because it is part of the tourist trail. The Paris End is more about the buildings, trees, 'feel' and then the shops. In the mid 1800s Melbourne was the richest city on the world due to it's state's huge gold rush, hence the magnificent older buildings and excellent infrastructure. The Queen Victoria Market is NOT open during the day on Monday and Wednesday but is for the Wednesday NIGHT market. The hook turns are NOT stupid but a very inventive way to allow the smooth running of traffic and safety for cars going over a tram route so that they do not collide and guess, if that happened, which one would come off in a very bad and sometimes death-causing state ! The nearby Docklands area is interesting and by travelling over the Westgate Bridge will give a vista of the huge Port Melbourne Bay which Melbourne wraps around and the tall and newer interesting architecture of the cityscape. I LOVE living here !

I love Melbourne but they lost the plot during covid and had the worlds longest lockdown, haven't been back since. 🤣
@barnowl.
@barnowl. 6 ай бұрын
I'm glad that we had a long lockdown. We didn't know what was to happen ??? We erred on the side of caution. People's lives were saved, the spread of the virus was slowed, hospital and medical staff and others were given some relief from the huge amount of work due to the lesser numbers of patients and decreased threats of catching the virus from them. People who has down-turned l business were compensated. As a result of being encouraged to work from home, more people continue to do that now, enjoying a better work-life balance. I think that you were probably one of the minority of self-interested, selfish persons who didn't look at the bigger picture of the greater good for the community. Having that attitude, I'm pleased you have gone.
@samnewman3123
@samnewman3123 6 ай бұрын
@@barnowl. Most people knew it was a coronavirus in 2020 and that China and Victoria were over-reacting and got it wrong. It needed to be balanced between risk/reward and the compensation for businesses wasn't enough obviously. For all that money wasting Victoria had the worst covid and mental health outcomes in the country and now has the highest debt and the highest taxes. That's why Victoria was always in the news around the world and people were protesting at Australian embassies. It's been 4 years since the pandemic and we now know Governments exploited emergency powers beyond what was reasonably necessary to protect public health. Not sure what denying that fact achieves, unless you're just a huge Scott Morrisson or Dan Andrews fan. 🤣 You can save many lives by ensuring vehicles only travel at 30km/h max, but is the risk/reward worth it? That's why decision makers weigh the potential benefits against the significant drawbacks and explore alternatives.
@barnowl.
@barnowl. 6 ай бұрын
@@samnewman3123 The MAJORITY of people agreed to and complied with the lockdown in Victoria and other states. There are always pros and cons in making any decisions. Lives were more important than non-essential businesses operating. And of course there is a monetary or other cost/price to pay for decisions made. Life is not just based on risk and reward but other intrinsic and ethical ideas and beliefs as well. Your analogy is poor, as is your referral to my political leanings. Every state and territory had lockdowns of some kind depending on what was happening regarding the virus in each state and territory. In hindsight things could have been done better and differently but we did not have foresight or a crystal ball to predict that. It was a learning experience as is living life.
@samnewman3123
@samnewman3123 6 ай бұрын
@@barnowl. I agree. But there are countless examples of majorities supporting decisions that later had unforeseen negative consequences. It's reality. I personally enjoyed the lockdowns, but felt bad for others. I'm not assuming youre a scomo or dan fan, just highlighting that if you love either one then it may be hard to criticize. Especially because the pandemic health choices became completely politicized.
