Names like Germany or Cologne are different in English due to its latin roots. The city Köln (Cologne) was founded by the ancient Romans under the name of "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium", while the Romans referred to the area behind the Rhine as "Germania". München is probably called Munich in English, as it was originally called "Munichen", which later on evolved within both languages seperately. (That's just an educated guess though.) The Bavarians call it "Minga" as far as I know. Germany has in general a lot of different names in different languages, unlike most other countries. Here is a pretty good 4 minute video regarding this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnS1oGh5rb6dn8k Greetings from Dortmund, Germany. ;)

Exactly!!! The name of the city derives from the monks who lived near the Isar river. So one had a plan to build a bridge "by the monks (bei den Mönchen)" since, as far as I know, there was only a bridge in Freising (near the Franz-J.-Strauss airport, MUC) where people was able to pass with salt, and that's why it's called München. Besides, München is called Munique (also a common name in Brazil) in my mothelanguage, Portuguese, Múnich in Spanish, Monaco di Baviera in Italian, and Minga in Bavarian.

Germany is called by the name of the tribes encountered by foreigners. The names are: Germany (from the germans; Britain) Allemagna (from the allemans; France, Spain, Italy), Saxa (from the saxons; Finland), Tyskland ( from the teutons; Scandinavia without Finland) and finally Niemse (from "unintelligeble people"; Poland and Arabia)

Hi, in Arabia you use the word "Alemania" for Germany and "Nimsa" for Austria.

Australia is pronounced differently in French! It's not a huge difference (Australie). Germany is 'Allemagne', but Munich doesn't change. There's my fun fact for you guys! ;) I'm not sure how the translation of proper names was decided, but it's pretty confusing sometimes.

Should also note that Germans do call other cities and countries different names or they translate the names. Australia=Australien in German, Italy=Italien, France=Frankreich, etc.

I would really suggest you guys to come back to this kind of vlogging. This seems very raw. With edited videos, things tend to get a bit banal.

Is not the best idea to see a movie in Germany :))) The movies are synced in German. They usually have no subs in cinema. :) Right at the beginning of this vlog I was just wondering: how was the first time the English were in München. Tell me good man how is this place called? München. I got it. Munich. :)))) Germany comes from the land of Germans, their ancestors.

+Lea Patalas I would rather guess, that it is due to the original name of "München" being "Munichen", which developed seperately in English and German.
