9:14 Hi, happy wedding to you couple! Btw, those expensive fruits you were pointing are from Japan, hence the high price and you were shopping in a tourist high cost shopping mall. The locals there have markets and other well known consumer chain grocery stores/mega stores with everyday normal prices. Best to you guys :D

Next time you're in Singapore go to the hawker centers. They're so much cheaper and you can get tropical/local fruits and meals for cheap. They have this one dish called fried carrot cake--it's a savory vegetarian dish (and a lot healthier than the name). It's so good! Also, laksa is really good if you eat fish.

Foodcourt is literally a place with a variety of food. If you go to hawker centres the food is usually cheaper and much better. The apples are expensive as they are imported from Japan and usually Japan imported stuff are way expensive. You should try just getting normal apples.

In regards to the expensive fruit...I think Singapore does something similar to Japan where people will send very high quality and expensive fruit to others as a gift for any number of reasons. It's not regular fruit though. Very high quality stuff.

Flying The Nest Actully fruits are not that expensive in Singapore,it's because MBS isn't a regular shopping centre but more like a touristy area , so things are bound to be more expensive . The fruits found in that supermarket were also imported from Japan, that's why the prices of the fruit were so exorbitant. Fruit in regular supermarkets costs a lot less , 6 apples for maybe $3+ ?

It's a cultural thing (for Japanese people). Giving fruits as presents is a very common thing, and of course you have to give only those fruits that are as perfect and unembellished as possible -- the more perfect it is the more sincere you are -- hence the expensive price tag. So you can find melons for $10 in Japan for your own personal consumption and $100 to give as gifts. You guys were at the Japanese section of the supermarket chain (you can also go to Isetan, a Japanese shopping mall at Orchard prices to ogle at the insane prices), if you had gone to a local wet market a melon would have cost at most $5.

Hey guys! The fruit you see on display is for gifts, specifically for visiting the sick, or for superiors, for high hospitality. The special gift fruit has a really good presentation, and this is why it’s so expensive! It’s common in some Asian countries :-)
