what exactly is that warning signal going off? is that a proximity sensor? or something with the brakes? I've never noticed that noise until this year watching the Ford GTs at Daytona and now again here.

thats a compressor for the pneumatic padle shift gearbox

I think it's the ABS system. In the Audi it's inside the cockpit.
