Evan, you should ABSOLUTELY do these challenges. The pressure is on, time is short and the rewards are even more rewarding. I saw you broaden your observations and really take advantage of every encounter. May not be a griz but we know those western blue birds are gorgeous. We know how exciting it is to shoot the big stuff but my mentor gave me great advice. “When you’re shooting the big stuff don’t forget the little stuff. “ loved this well rounded episode. Definitely would like more 👍🏻

You should do this 24 hour “challenge” in Yellowstone! Maybe even in other parks as well. Really enjoyed this one and keep up the great work!

I love the idea of photographing as many species as possible in one day. It alleviates the pressure to get that one photo of a single species and it helps to diversify a photo portfolio. An added bonus is that it allows the photographer the chance to watch and learn about a greater variety of critters. This video was a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, I have watched several of your videos. Can you tell me how to photograph wildlife in the parks? Landscapes used to be my favorite, but now I am enjoying wildlife. Maybe a better way to ask is, is it possible to accompany you on a wildlife tour?

Hello Watts. I am a subscriber to your KZbin channel. Your channel is very informative and excellent!! Thank you for the content. I have a question for you. I have a Canon 90D camera and I am getting more into wildlife photography (in part thanks you). When I shoot wildlife photography (example: a bird sitting still on a branch) I am typically in aperture priority mode, AI Servo, and in continuous drive mode. When I am using the LCD display (Live View) on the camera I can move the “focus point” (I typically use “1-point AF) around the screen by using the joystick on the back of the camera but when I use the “optical focus” (instead of the LCD display) I am unable to move the “focus point” arounds the screen by using the joystick on the back of the camera. Am I am missing something? Also, what the typical steps you use (Live View and/or Optical Focus) when focusing prior to taking a photo?

Beautiful! The time limit gives it something special, and may make you more creative. I'm better professionally under pressure than when I think i have tons of time. For my photography, it is a bit different though. But that is not my profession :-)

Does your 500mm make some noise when IS is on? I picked one up and never had a large prime like it before but figured it would be louder than a normal lens. Wasn’t sure if that was normal

Evan, that front pack looks interesting. I hiked the Long Trail in Vermont with the 20G on the R4 cam & 50GM on the A1. I had both them on Peak Design Shoulder Straps around my neck from sun up to sun down, never EVER taking the shoulder straps off because I know there is that 0.1% chance the Peak Design Capture Clip will get loose enough on the body or strap and come falling down and I have $5-$10K in damages... I'd always have one of the bodies glued to my right shoulder strap and the other body draped down on my left side to balence the weight better. I see that you dont even use wrist straps or shoulder straps at all. Do you trust the intregrity of that setup? it looks like it wouldn't be able to quickly detach and slide onto the Peak Design Carbon Fiber Tripod, because it requires a different type of mount than Peak Design, no? Cool Footage

I can honestly say I do trust the integrity of the Cotton Carrier setup, the harness was intentionally designed to carry these big expensive cameras and lenses, and it does that very well. If there was any flaw or a good chance that the harness would come unclipped and drop your gear, I don’t think the company would be as successful as they are. With that said, obviously things happen. A person could theoretically have a defective clip and everything could come crashing down, but the same can be said for any harness or strap or tripod. I haven’t used a Peak Design Carbon Fiber Tripod, so I can’t say for sure! Sorry! Hope my insight helps a bit, and thank you for watching!! 🙏

What are some of your MUST HAVEs when entering the wild to photograph animals? I mean like personal protection items like bear spray or anything else. I'm just getting into wildlife photography and would like to head out west to photograph bear, elk, deer and moose. I'd much rather be prepared than sorry.
@wattswildlifephoto
@wattswildlifephoto Жыл бұрын
Bear spray, waterproof boots, rain jacket, and an extra fleece layer. Bear spray is pretty self explanatory… the other stuff is in case of a sudden weather change. Especially in high elevations weather changes quickly and if you’re in the wilderness and not prepared, it can get dangerous fast. Just last week I was on a hike that got very rainy and temps plummeted quickly. Even with a dry fleece layer and a rain jacket, I was still shivering and we ended the hike early to avoid hypothermia. I was fine, but without those extra layers that I didn’t even anticipate using, I could’ve been in real, serious danger. Those would be my primary recommendations, and just be aware of your surroundings at all times… the time you’ll stumble into a bear is the time you least expect it!

Hello Evan. That camera harness looks interesting. Does it get hot wearing it and do you have to switch adapters to go to a tripod? I’m currently using the peak capture clip. Great shots . Tnx
@wattswildlifephoto
@wattswildlifephoto Жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t get hot at all in my experience! It’s a relatively thin piece of fabric and had some mesh parts that allow for airflow. Depends on the tripod foot you use but the foot I use (RRS) works great even with the Cotton Carrier foot attached to the lens as well.
