People forget these men lived in the areas they worked in. My dad was in 6 UDR and was lucky enough never to be targeted or injured, same for the men in his section. 24 hour shifts, patroling the border, lying in ditches for hours. Grateful to them all 🇬🇧

Ulster Defence Regiment lest we forget they were brave they weren’t cowards Godbless all men and women who joined to defend this country my father and brother were both in it and I’m very proud of them still they went to terrorist places they were not evil murderers they were out to protect from evil vermon 🙏🇬🇧💯❤️

Most of them were in The uda or uvf. Calling them defenders for murdering catholics is a bit rich.

@@dessy76that’s not true, majority were normal everyday people living in a poor time who signed up to do a job and defend their country, plenty catholics were in the udr which is why the B Men disbanded in 1970.

Atypical parochial/sectarian militia in an internecine conflict. Remind me of some of the home defense units in the South African army during apartheid. Very similar to various colonial paramilitary units of empire. Interesting seige mentality ethos driven by a deep seated fear of losing societal dominance.

No. All were from Northern Ireland. However, due to intimidation and assassination from their own Catholic neighbours and the IRA, their numbers dwindled to next to nothing very quickly. I say this from personal experience 71-76.
