The simulated environment for a noisy crowd for XM5 noise canceling is shockingly God tier. I didn't know noise cancelling for calls could ever be that good, it's like it was cancelling everything but your voice, and none of those other headsets where quite as good in that department. Day 1 buy for me.

The XM5's in a simulated real world event. Guy walking around the bar with his buddies hitting on every cute woman he sees. His buddies are giving him the business for it because they know he has a "crazy girlfriend". His cell phone rings, he puts the XM5's on and answers the call in the bar and the conversation goes like this "Hi sweetheart! Has your temperature gone down? Are you feeling better?" No babe I was sleeping until you called. The fellas wanted me to go out to the bar tonight, but I said no. I need to rest. No need to worry about me. I'm going to sleep after I get off the phone and call it a night". Thanks Sony for making ANC great again! 😂🤣🤙🏾🍻😂🤣

Nice that someone finally mentioned the hinges breaking. I had the XM3's and after 2 years, the hinge broke. Fixed it with an online replacement, but couldn't get the proper color match, so left with white headphones with black plastic cap. Not a big deal and improved the "feel" of the headphones. That quality issue made the XM4's a hard pass for me. But now I gotta wonder why Sony went with 30mm drivers for the 5's?

The M3's broke as well? I've had them since they came out in late 2018 and they haven't failed in that area yet for me, nor was the issue quite as widespread as it was for the other two 1000X models before it.

Jefe getting into what we need to know, by far the strongest voice I listen to in this space! I'm in a tough spot with this, the XM5 are obvious upgrades but I feel like if you already have the XM5 or AirPods, I would hold out. If not, these are DEFINITELY the way to go!

Super surprised to hear that the XM5 beat the airpod max in ANC. I guess Sony HAD TO step up their game to keep that "industry leading" noise cancelation label. Awesome review again. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the MTW3. I'm absolutely loving mine. The fin makes all of the difference in being a "all around" earbud for me.

Well, it is a bit subjective. They're likely so close it could go either way. I think most reviewers give it to Apple... but that's likely also because they seem to have a bias for Apple's products in the first place. Most of the more objective ones seem to give the edge to the XM5.

@@brod3rick870 I can answer that as someone that owns both.... YES without a doubt. CEONTHEMAKING also dropped a comparison video for them yesterday... Comfort- MTW3 and it's not even a close comparison unless you're one of the VERY few people that find the XM4's huge design comfortable for long hours. I have wore my MTW3 for hours at a time and after a while I forget that they're even there... I haven't experienced ear fatigue yet even after wearing them for over 3 hours. ANC- XM4. MTW3 are close but due to not being able to set the level and keep it there the XM4 wins. In reference to that, the MTW3 do an EXCELLENT job adapting to noises in the environment. When my weights slam and clank against each other during deadlifts and racking weights I can hear the MTW3 trying to lower the volume of the noise before it gets to my ears. It's almost instantaneous. Transparency- about the same Fit- MTW3... I have ran in mine, did powerlifting sessions etc since the day I got them on Tuesday. They have NEVER needed adjusting due to the fin. Sound Quality- MTW3. No comparison Volume level- MTW3 Controls- MTW3. You literally can have full control over EVERYTHING on the earbuds without having to make a sacrifice. When you press and hold the earbud for volume, it keeps getting lower/higher without you having to lift the finger off and keep repeating the step to get the volume where you need it. I love this feature and wish everyone did that. App- it's honestly a toss up. Sony gives you more eq controls though Multi-point- neither one has it but Sennheiser has said that it is coming to the MTW3 in a update... Similar to what Jabra did for their elite 7's. Mics- MTW3 wins. One critique I have for the MTW3 is that you can't put them in transparency/anc when using one earbud at a time. This is hpw I like to ride my bike when I ride in the road so for that I still use my beats fit pro.

Awesome review it made me pull the trigger and order myself an XM5. I was on the fence if I should get the airpod max, and I just can’t handle a heavy headset. It’s so damn uncomfortable, I also love the EQ settings. I think better sound + better comfort + lower price tag… yeah it was a obvious choice. Appreciate how you mentioned EQ settings as most reviewers just use out the box settings and don’t really do EQ. My XM3 can finally retire.

Hello from Cologne in Germany, great video, thank you very much. I have 2 questions. I use my bose nc 700 a lot for zoom calls and voice messages and whatsapp. So far, the 700 was or is the best in terms of microphones and ease of use. Do the XM5 also listen to your own voice when making calls? With Bose I can even adjust the volume in 3 stages. One of the most important features! In order to hear your own voice when speaking on the phone with anc is on, on your ears. Question 2: How long do I have to press the power button to turn on the device? With the Boses, a short click is enough. No need to hold down for a long time. Very pleasant in everyday work. The microphones sound significantly better than Bose's. Significantly louder and clearer. I don't like that much about the bades anymore. And sorry for the weird sentences. All written with google translator. Many thanks and greetings from Cologne

03:15 Weird the consumer side have longstanding build issues. Their studio workhorse MDR7506 is an absolute tank in the hinges. Mine well over a decade old, hasn't been gentled, and still going strong.

Firstly, thank you for addressing the glasses bit. No one really does that and while I don't wear glasses, I do wear sunglasses which when I wear with headphones often don't feel great. So thank you very much for that. I've been debating on upgrading. Currently use the Bose NC 700 and with the EQ settings tweaked right, I"ve been loving it but I think I might just upgrade to the XM5's. With the EQ settings tweaked properly, I think this should sound even more amazing than ever before.

Thanks for making this! I know it's a weird complaint, but it bothers me that the headphones speakers face outwards when you hang them flat around your neck rather than in towards your chest (like the xm4 does).

The AirPods Max has the roomiest earpads out of the 5 here. Sadly they are also the heaviest.

Noise only leaks above 85% Volume. You should not listen at high volumes if you care about your hearing health.

I owned three generations of Sony headphones ending in the XM4. I liked them all but they all got very warm, all had problems with wind and all completely failed after 2 years.

I tested these against my XM4 and just couldn’t find a good reason to upgrade for another $400. The microphone does make a huge difference. But I listened to them using my iPhone 11 Pro with my preferred EQ settings for both the XM4 and XM5 and found the 5’s slightly wider in soundstage. Then, I switched to my Sony Walkman NW-A55 on LDAC and both the XM4 and XM5 sounded the same. That’s to say that they both sound amazing in LDAC mode. After that, I decided just having my XM4’s are enough. I’ll get these when my XM4 cans break. Thank you for your videos, always.

Hello! I'm not the most tech savy and just wanted to ask: my smartphone only rocks Android Nougat (heard LDAC only starts at the 8th) and I've heard Windows doesn't support it... does LDAC provide an astronomical difference in audio quality?

@@wisechoice8 Well it depends. If you are using Tidal Hifi, Apple Music or smtg, then yes you will notice the difference for some music. If you are just using Spotify and KZbin Music, then AAC with DSEE Extreme should be good enough, so in this case if your phone supports AAC, then don't worry about it. Even with the LDAC, you could be future-proofing for your next phone as well.

I've noticed a feature in the sony app that allows the xm5 headphones to detect how loud the music that's being played is. It's under the RCM value for hear protect section I believe. Do you happen to know if the app allows the sony wh xm4s to detect the number of decibels as well with the app or is it strictly an xm5 feature? Sorry for being very particular.

No. I forgot to talk about this in the video. The cabin pressure feeling from the XM3/XM4 has been reduced! It's a more comfortable ANC implementation.

@@ELJefeReviews Well, that's an odd way of twisting and turning instead of just saying that the ANC is worse. Cabin pressure is caused by the brains impression of the lack of low frequency sounds. Less cabin pressure = less effective ANC

Not always. I prefer the sound signature of the B&O but they lack the isolation of the XM5. This is one of the reasons I don't compare earbuds to headphones.

Xm5 mic is definitely sweet compared to xm4. Sound quality upgrade? I didn't notice it enough to go wow take my money. It just wasn't a huge leap in performance. I can safely use my xm4s until the 6's. Everyone's ears and music tastes are different. I get that but Airpods Max never impressed me in any category
