I used to retrude the mandile by two fingers of one hand to the most retruded unstrained position of condylar process within TMJ and ask the patient to bite and then put wax in between the maxillary and mandibular wax rims

The technique that you describe was a previously accepted one for determining the centric treatment position that has been generally replaced with the newer techniques. It is no longer thought that the most returned position is the ideal treatment position and that a superior anterior position is more appropriate. Similarly waxes have generally been replaced by elastomeric registration materials because they are offer less resistance during registration and don’t distort after the records have been made. Thanks. The video is about occlusal vertical dimension (OVD), not about setting denture teeth. You should not set a curve on the occlusion rims prior to establishing the OVD and making the centric record. Doing so can cause the patient to slide upon closing, resulting in an inaccurate interocclusal record. A curve of Spee can be developed later when setting denture teeth if desired, and is covered in my videos on setting teeth.

I didn't know where to ask, but here is my question. Is there any difference between Maximum intercuspation and Centric occlusion. I only have the definiton of maxium intercuspation- is a state of centric occlusion during which the teeth surfaces ar maximally contacting. Maybe you could help clear this thing up, because I'm a little confused.

centric occlusion: the occlusion of opposing teeth when the mandible is in centric relation. This may or may not coincide with the maximal intercuspal position. maximal intercuspal position: the complete intercuspation of the opposing teeth independent of condylar position, sometimes referred to as the best fit of the teeth regardless of the condylar position-called also maximal intercuspation. You can't make these records without the record bases and occlusion rims being in place.

Incase of Occlusal plane above the level of tongue can lead to the cheeck biting ..

While cheek biting can be a problem with dentures, it is rarely, if ever related to the level of the occlusal planed being above the level of the tongue. More typically it is related to a lack of horizontal overlap of the posterior teeth. Normally the maxillary buccal cusps hold the cheek mucosal tissues from folding in over the mandibular occlusal table and do not allow the tissues of the cheek to get trapped between buccal cusps. However, when the maxillary and mandibular buccal cusps exhibit no horizontal offset (cusp to cusp relationship), cheek biting occurs. Cheek biting can also occur posterior to the last molars when their is a very small space between the denture bases and the cheek tissue is somewhat flabby - it can fold into the space between the bases and get pinched during function.

@@Chitti198 If the occlusal plane of the dentures is set too low, the tongue will lap over the occlusal surfaces and the patient will occasionally bite their tongue. Normally the occlusal plane can be set properly by positioning the mandibular teeth anteriorly at the level of the corners of the mouth (the commissures) and posteriorly by having the entire occlusal plane intersect the middle of the retromolar pads (do not set the teeth that far back, just ensure the mandibular occlusal plane intersects there).
