1998 and 2014 has SOME differences you know... 1998: Godzilla is not godzilla, instead, he's a giant iguana. 2014: GODZILLA IS TRULY GODZILLA!!! NO FUCK UPS!! 1998: no monsters to fight 2014: THERE IS A MONSTER TO FIGHT! 2 actually, but they look simular. They're called MUTOs. 1998: SHITTY ACTING!!! 2014: Somewhat decent acting. 1998: a director who doesn't know shit about Godzilla. 2014: a director who loves and cares for Godzilla!!!! 1998: New York City 2014: Honolulu, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. 1998: the military destroys the city more than Godzilla, I mean, ZILLA, does. 2014: ACTUAL CITY DESTRUCTION FROM A MONSTER! :D

The thing is, the problem with the 1998 film wasn't the film itself, but it was Godzilla. In the 2014 movie it may be very similar, but they got the monster right, and that's what kept it from getting the same sort of hate.

Except 2014 shouldn't be even named "Godzilla" and more of " norwegian drama about people we give no shit about". 98 is far from perfect but I love it more because in the end it was a gigant monster wrecing shit ( also i've seen it when I was like 9 on tv so nostalgia value is accountable as well), especially in the climax. In 2014 we get a knight in shining armor. Now ,imagine this plot; Godzilla he last of species whose numbers have been decimated by the parasites ( Called MUTO by us) with only few members (including Godzilla surviving to our times). But because of them constant wrecing cities ( well, they were dominant species once and we would be what ants are to us) we have developed a weapon that was able to kill them ( Orignal Gojira weapon, forgotten the name. Wpuld also serve as a cool tribute to the original) For years we would track the remaining members of this species ( they would hibernate for a century, much like dragons in fantasy :P) and deploy weapons in their lairs. And BAM!, problem sloved.... Weeell, Godzilla was omnitted ( by his pure luck, since he would be the oldest member of his species and because of that he'd hibernate for even longer periods of time.) When he awoke he'd find his species gone with people sicentists analysing the bodies. Bam! Revenge ( i don't think it woouldn't be possible since 2014 Godzilla is shown to have at lest human level sentience) But then MUTO are back and traditional godzilla thing would start. ( Or they could be left off). Damn, didn't mean to , make it this lenghy, sorry :P One last thing: The movie was killed by focusing on the soldiers' wifey ( I believe from the second half of the movie even the soldier gets less screen time) The most atrocious part was the evacuation " oh, sorry son I cannot live my patients because my Hippocratic Oath so I'll leave you with my friend, now be agood boy and leave." .... Yeah, because evacuation started shortly before Godzilla emarged... What was the city? San Francisco? Yeah, few hours are enough to evacuate this city, sure. I'm no expert but to my knowledge children and people needing medical care would be evacuated first. but not those from ER as they wpouldn't even survive the fucking travel. Oh, and this scene when they are caring for an ER patient in an ambulance, yeah he would definatley survive. And I thought it was a CITY evacuation? Why did they took only children and all adults stayed in the fucking city? Was this a last-minute evacuation? They fucking knew at lest three days prior to godzilla's arrival.

Mika Sz you must have never watch the old godzilla film its for kids back then
@megalodon7916
@megalodon7916 7 жыл бұрын
+Mika Sz The evacuation was believable. Do you know how many people live in San Francisco? Even if they had three days to evacuate, it still wouldn't be enough time to get everyone out. Plus, they clearly evacuated more tha. Just the kids. That was just all we saw, because the focus was on the protaganist's family. Furthermore, the evacuation options were limited. The Female M.U.T.O. was approaching from land, Godzilla by sea, and the male M.U.T.O. by air, and the M.U.T.O.'s EMP attack rendered most means of transportation useless, especially aircraft. Plus, how is Godzilla a knight in shining armor? He didn't care about the people in the city. He wasn't there for them. He was hunting his natural enemy. That was all he cared about. He smashed his was through the Golden Gate Bridge, killing those that were still on it and further limiting the options of those trying to get out of the city, and once the fight started, he didn't care what he smashed as long as the M.U.T.O.s were killed. Case in point, he shoved the female's head through the roof of the shelter in which the protaganists wife was hiding, and she ended up being caught in the collapse of the building he toppled while killing the male. Overall, he caused billions of dollars in damage and thousands died (as reported in the news broadcast at the end of the film). Godzilla wasn't a villain, but he wasn't a hero either. He was a force of nature, just as Toho intended him to be. He played the role that predators play in real life, which is maintaining the natural order. It just so happened that he saved humanity in the process. Godzilla payed about as much attention to the people beneath his feet as the average person pays to insects. The only time even even makes eye contact with someone in the entire film is when the collapsing building knocks him over and he sees Ford, and nothing comes of it. The 1998 film, on the other hand, leaves far too many questions unanswered, and is loaded with inaccuracies that even a simpleton can pick up on. Why did Zilla choose New York as the site to lay his eggs when there were so many other sites that would have been more suitable and had fewer people that could harm his young. Why did he wonder so far from French Polynesia in the first place? How did a human pregnancy test work on a giant mutant iguana? Why does Zilla eat fish when marine iguanas are herbivores? Why didn't the building with the giant hole in it collapse when it had virtually no support left? How could a giant monster disappear in a city full of millions of people? Why is Zilla so afraid of human soldiers that are so tiny in comparison to him? What was a marine iguana even doing in French Polynesia when they're native to the Galapagos? These are just some of the many obvious problems with the film, and I haven't even mentioned the inaccurate portrayal of the military vehicles and their destructive capabilities. The 2014 film, in comparison, has far fewer problems. It isn't perfect, but it is more believable. Each of the monsters has their own established backstory and motives for their behavior. The military also behaves as expected, and the strategy of luring the monsters away with the radiation of a nuke and then detonating it certainly sounds like a realistic approach to dealing with the creatures in the film. The story just works better on film than the plot of the 1998 film.

@ Konstrictor's first post: Dude, the problem with the 1998 movie was not only the monster, but it WAS the film itself. It's just a bad movie that doesn't bother taking itself seriously. For a solo Godzilla movie, the 1998 version lacked terror and the actors were delivering lines badly as if they were in a parody of a monster movie.

Its amazing how people somehow completely ignore that he actually likes the 98 version better BECAUSE he saw it when he was young, and hence it brings back memories. People here acting like he outright called the 98 version better on an objective film critical basis. I mean, do you selectively erase things you hear from your mind? I don't know why, but this seems to happen very often with people watching youtube vids. it's like a disease.

A lot of your comparisons are wrong. #2: 2014 Godzilla wasn't created from nuclear testing. #3: (2014) That's clearly not a footprint. #6: (2014) That was the Muto not Godzilla. #7: (2014) They recruited his father, he just happened to be there. #9: (2014) How in any way, shape, or form would you expect a creature who can survive nuke's to be threatened by a bunch of guys with guns? #11: How is the 2014 version "blurry?" #13: (1998) She wasn't called into work, she was in a restaurant with her friends when Zilla showed up. #14: (2014): Well he couldn't go home but you're right that there was no need for him to join the fight so that one can slide. #18: You said how the Military has shitty aim. That's only the case in the 1998 version. In the 2014 version they hit Godzilla but nothing has an effect on him. #22: (1998) Zilla isn't breathing fire, the cars are exploding when he roars. #23: 2014 Godzilla wasn't down for the count because he got back up and left. The problem is that some of the mistakes you made about the 2014 version were pretty obvious to the point where it seems like you didn't even see the movie. I've seen your other vids and they are really good so I know you can do a lot better.

You're completely wrong in 2014, as far as i can remember what he want to do most since leaving japan is to get home, and being with army is his way 16. In 2014, it's muto, not godzilla 18. In 2014, do you really see that bridge scene? The army's aim was'nt that bad except for some early missiles from those ships 22. In 2014, it's atomic breath, not fire 23. @RandomAllen
@RandomAllen 8 жыл бұрын
isectoid I like the Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, for a monster on the loose movie similar to Jurassic Park it is quite decently directed, has cool effects and is relatively enjoyable. However, the Original Godzilla 1954 ,not the bizarrely cut Raymond Burr American version, is leagues above it as a film. While they have basically the same plot, "Godzilla 1954" uses the monster as a look at the bloody destructive aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and as a victim of the atomic bombs. Ishiro Honda, the director, actually was on the ground a day later and witnessed the hospitals teeming with people, the burned and broken rubble and mass death and destruction. In a time period right after the censorship American Occupation, this is one of the first films to talk about those events but not talk about them meanspirted and be super pro Japan but instead pro-humanity, Honda was good about that as you can see in this, Atragon and others. Ultimately, the two can't be compared because in Beast, the point is the spectacle of seeing the monster while in Godzilla 1954, the monster is tool to get across a message until the end. Two good films but they are good films for different reasons

I liked both versions, but after seeing about 7 of the old Godzilla films (including the original), I understand why people don't like the '98 version for taking the "God" outta "Godzilla". Even so, after becoming acquainted with some of the classics, I still like '98, purely because I thought the story was entertaining and interesting and because of nostalgia. I saw '14 after seeing the old movies, and I LOVED IT!!! Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but I find it strange how people complain about Godzilla's role being minimal until the last third of the film and the main focus being on the humans, when the old films that I saw took the EXACT SAME approach. Especially in the original. Granted, the old films had longer fights (usually around 2-3 that lasted 5+ minutes each, and a 10+ minute final battle), and honestly I do hope that Edwards gives us more kaiju vs kaiju action in the sequels, but they all took the "less is more" approach, sprinkling in kaiju fights among A LOT of exposition and storyline that focuses on the HUMANS AFFECTED. Honestly, I don't think any of the films would've done that well if they truly focused on Godzilla as the "main character". They would've been mindless action fests with no context or relatability for the viewer. Granted, '14's characters weren't that interesting, but they weren't that bad, either. Again, hopefully they do better in the sequels. All-in-all, though, '14's style reminded me a lot of the older films, which I loved, and the tense atmosphere and storytelling kept me on the edge of my seat, especially when the MUTOs and the King himself really got rolling after the Hawaii incident. It really did feel like the old films with a heavier--and in my opinion, better--atmosphere and better visuals and effects--which still don't mean a movie will be good, but it helps. Really enjoyed this video. I hate to think that I wouldn't have found this if not for CinemaSins, but boy am I happy about it. Keep up the good work :D

This film proved that the "less is more" approach isn't an inherently wise one. Imagine waiting for a delicious juicy double cheese burger, and one it finally arrives, someone snatches it from you. Than that person brings it back, but you try to take another bite *BAM*, it's gone again. This goes on for a few more attempts, and once the person decides to let you finally enjoy your burger, your already frustrated, and the burger is practically ruined and losses savory. That was this film. If what I want to be teased in this manner, I would watch fetish videos, not monster flicks.

Alex Gomez Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As I said, the "classic" Godzilla films did the same. Another example of a film that was highly praised for its "less is more" approach is Jaws. Still, if you didn't like the film, that's fine.

Trigunnie45 Good point. They weren't great, but they were interesting enough to hold my interest. They weren't characterized very deeply, but they weren't nearly as bland as slasher flick characters, for example. And the dialogue was still very interesting, so the film was still driven forward quite well. For me, I didn't focus on any one character; I thought of myself as being right there with them, experiencing what they were. It was the atmosphere that was so tantalizing to me, and it carried the film on its back.

Alex Gomez It's the fact the 1998 version had the name but it ended up acting more like Jurassic Park than Godzilla. 2014 followed the traditions better and Gareth Edwards actually cared about the franchise while 1998 Godzilla was suppose to follow the tradition but Roland Emmerich is a careless director who used the movie as a cash in and didn't even like the original Godzilla.

Love interest? You know he has a child too right? So it's more of his family than a love interest. A love interest would be someone you have a desire for, not someone your all ready in a relationship with. Also neither creatures are evil the 98 one was attempting to nest G 2014 was fighting creatures that his species had dealt with for millions of years, also Godzilla 2014 was not mutated but was an already existing creature that fed off of radiation, unlike 98 which ate fish.

As much as I love "Godzilla 1998," there's a TINY part of me that wishes it was never made ONLY because, if that were the case, then it wouldn't have given birth to a large group of hardcore Godzilla fans (those who love the original Japanese character) who are, for lack of a better word, downright UNPLEASANT. Plus, I say this after reading the seemingly endless amount of IMMATURITY here coming from both G-Fans and Zilla fans alike here in this comment thread.

Hey dude. I too enjoyed Godzilla 98 as a kid, and it was my favorite movie for a long time. After watching all of the older ones, I came to the conclusion that Godzilla 2000 was my favorite movie and that 98 really didn't do the rest of the Godzilla movies justice at all. If you haven't watched them, I suggest you do, they're all classics, and maybe they'll give you a deeper appreciation for the newest Godzilla which was, while not spectacular or amazing by the standards set by the previous movies, it was more true and paid more homage to the previous films than 98 did. :)

Emma Rose Godzilla has never been strictly a good or bad guy. Godzilla is a force of a nature that kind of balances the world. In Godzilla 2014 he was explicitly stated as such. Godzilla doesn't care about humans, at all. There have been some movies where he has been the "bad guy" and some where he has been the "good guy". Godzilla was, and still is (kind of), an allegory for the atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan.

Zilla Rex Is "this one" G14? That seems odd because they basically just stayed as close as possible to established Godzilla character traits as they could (with slight alterations). Yeah you could say it's not original enough, but lack of unique direction in a film just makes it a mediocre film (thank God for Shin Gojira). It's obviously still Godzilla. Honestly I've barely seen any of Godzilla: The Series. I don't feel Zilla needed to be turned into Godzilla at the last minute to quell fan complaints. The damage was already done. ...ow...ow, I want to hit you so hard. As a stand-alone, movie, '98 Zilla isn't bad, but don't say your a Godzilla fan if you don't even like the actual Godzilla A couple other things: 1. Both kaiju may be loaded with nuclear radiation, but they're still cold-blooded. That was even stated in the '98 movie 2. Zilla never breathed fire and Godzilla's blast is atomic in nature. Zilla's "fire breath" is actually more closely related to Angarius '98 hypersonic roar. It ignited vehicles, but the flames never came from Zilla, itself (Btw: the 1998 kaiju was renamed Zilla by Toho, Godzilla's original creators, which I doubt you knew, because they hated the movie. One of the top members of Toho said "they took the 'God' out of 'Godzilla'." Where as Legendary's movie was so loved by Toho, they decided to relaunch their own movies. I also doubt you can appreciate the significance of that. The hatched egg at the end of the 1998 movie would eventually make it to Toho's 2004 Godzilla movie, Final Wars, where Zilla swiftly got it's ass beat)

There is a tease at the end in both 1998 and 2014, at the end of 1998, a baby Godzilla hatches out of the egg, indicating that there will be another Godzilla out there. At the end of 2014, Godzilla gets back up and swims away, in both cases, you are shown that Godzilla is not entirely dead or annihilated, and get teased about a sequel coming up.

At Least the '98 Film had a better Story to the Human side & got a 40-episode Animated Series based of it, the 2014 Film was basically just a remake that was trying too hard to be more like the Classic Godzilla Films, Frankly I think that the '98 Godzilla character looks better due to his more Dinosaur-like appearance.

Rebel24621 Games Well that's the point, Classic Godzilla was Fat with Stubby Short Legs, it just looks too much like a fat guy in a cheesy suit, where as the 1998 Godzilla was leaner, with a body & legs closer to that of a Velociraptor(which by itself alone looks so much cooler), so '98 Godzilla is better built for speed & agility, plus he can burrow underground, and swims more like a Crocodile than a Human Being, plus in the Animated Spin-off Series they gave Godzilla Jr. the signature Radioactive Fire Breath of Classic Godzilla, '98 Godzilla just feels more like a Mutated Animal than just some guy in a fat suit, so legendary or not, in my personal opinion '98 Godzilla just looks like a vast improvement over the Original.

In the movie there is a second time when Zilla actually breathes fire, I agree that it could have been two cars smashing each other but there was another time when Zilla did. Keep in mind this was in 1998 and the filming wasn't as good so most animations were farther away from the creature.

I liked the 1998 version a lot more. I liked the idea of an ancient creature trying to survive in a modern world. It also had characters you cared about with the story centered around one person. The 2014 story as a whole was just exposition leading up to the fight scenes at the end. 1998 also used more practical effects. 2014 had a lot more cgi with a lot happening on scene that I didn't care much for. I feel like most people just like the 2014 because its more than the original in terms of styling and location.

Okay, you're just blatantly wrong on a couple of these. In the '98 film, nuclear testing creates Godzilla. In the '14 film, they were trying to kill him. And for reason number three, that shot you referenced in 2014 was a destruction trail, not footprints. And that isn't even Godzilla, it was the male MUTO. And for reason number 11, that roar shot is EXTREMELY CLEAR. They even scroll up the entire length of his body just to show what he looks like! And for reason 14, Ford, in 2014, went with the military because that was the ONLY way to get back to his family. And for reason 18, the military scores a TON of direct hits on Godzilla. While the other reasons are legitimate similarities, you cannot POSSIBLY call these two films alike. In 98, there's only one monster, which gets killed. In 14, there are three monsters, and Godzilla is the only one to SURVIVE. That, as well as the differences between 1998 and 2014's titular monster, are the biggest differences, but far from the only differences. And last thing. If you wanna get subscribers, don't rip off Cinema Sins and troll people. Kthnxbai.

There are more differences than similarities between the two. You do know that Godzilla 2014 wasn't created by the nuclear blast, right? He was the target. The creature, as explained in the film, is from a species that predates mankind. Furthermore, if you favor the 1998 film over 2014, I suppose you aren't much of a Godzilla fan. That's alright, though. It's an acquired taste. You either like it or you don't.

Also godzilla carried mechagodzilla which he was 150,00 pounds if Godzilla were to hit zilla or grab him zilla is done for. Also nuclear pulse which could instantly kill weakzilla. I totally agree. I've always been a fan of the '98 film due to Patrick Totopoulos's creature designs for the film (he also worked on the alien designs in Independence Day) coupled with the animated series that director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin did after the film to restore dignity to icon's name. Do note, Godzilla the Series is the second Godzilla animated series, but it leagues better than the Toho/Hannah Barbara 70s series that for all purposes should just be called "Reptar the Series".

If you are a true fan of the Japanese Godzilla movies you will notice that Godzilla was never the sole focus. There were a lot of personal stories and story lines that spent more time on the people. Also, the 98 Godzilla was even further off since it was only Godzilla, we were finally treated to a true Godzilla movie in which he faced monsters and the humans were caught in between. I honestly got somewhat emotionally invested in the characters since they had a more compelling story line that watching Ferris Beuller (Matthew Broderick, try, unsuccessfully, to pass himself off as some genius researcher. The military guy and his story in the 2014 movie was far richer and could be connected with in a more tangible way. So, ya'll failed on this one.

"Cool new design" oh fuck off. Few things you could have said to make me say fuck off but that is one of them. Fuck. Off "Spawned an even more awesome cartoon" again, very few things you could have said to make me say fuck off. But fuck off. Pacific* Rim has a doody story. The movie has good but the focus on Kaiju fighting took focus away from the story. That being said isn't Zilla the only Kaiju in 98? There are not any Kaiju fights, just an overgrown iguana getting blown up by some missiles. "over the movie were I never see Godzilla in a movie named Godzilla" Get some glasses, I saw him.
