I was going to say that. There is also an organization that takes old, ripped, stained clothing/material to recycle. Maybe somebody else knows the name.

Towel tips: I bought 2 good quality towels for each person in the house and a smaller thin towel for women’s hair, and 6 facecloth each. Everything matches and fits perfectly in the closet. The rest was donated to a dog rescue shelter. I’ve not bought again in the past 5 years and closet is always neat.

Thank you for the comment about donating usable and sellable items. It's the first time I have seen ANY influencer mention this and it is a HUGE problem/cost for Thrift Stores to spend money on throwing away items,that the donating person could have thrown in their own trash.
@terryKessler42719
@terryKessler42719 8 ай бұрын
How much does it cost to throw away an item? I would rather have the items and decide whether or not to keep them than have the donating person toss a very usable piece. You never know what items you can use until you see them up close.
@Minty11111
@Minty11111 8 ай бұрын
Thrift stores give clear guidance about what they do and don’t want. They already know certain things won’t move (like old textbooks or tube TVs), but people dump them off anyway. It’s a hassle for them. Just respect their guidelines as they literally beg us to.

I’ve been working towards living more minimally for a few years now and it’s astounding how much we accumulate and hold on to- today I realized I can probably get rid of my container of random buttons, safety pins, sewing kits, magnets etc …I’ve kept it all incase I’ll ever need it and I haven’t yet etc

Some great ideas here! In addition to free samples of beauty products, I always use to end up with tons of bottles of hotel shampoos/conditioners from some of my favorite hotels (when I would travel a lot). A great idea for those free samples and hotel products (as long as they haven't been opened) is to donate them to a women's shelter in your area.

Great tips! I've basically lived in small flats all my life and the one-in-one-out system is also great for doing this little by little throughout the year. If you bought a new cardigan that means there's one you are not wearing. Don't let things pile up. Just get rid of your least favourite thing every time you replace it with a new purchase. Alternatively, if you love every item in a category and use all of them--you don't need any new ones.

Cutting boards - I have two, one wood and one glass. The glass is for meats only, and the wooden one is for fruits & veggies. This way there's no cross contamination, no meat juices being absorbed by wood products, and zero plastic (for reasons you mentioned along with dulling your knives.) And WASHCLOTHS! Except using one red washcloth to clean the kids' boo-boo's over the years (red = hides the scary blood), I have NEVER used a washcloth. A hand towel, yes, but washcloths, nope! So thanks for pointing this out, mine are now in the donation box in the garage next to my car door - when I leave the house, the box goes in the car for a ride with me to the donation center/shelter near me. Thanks for the Great tips!

I listened to you. I brought the wooden cutting board that yiu showed in your last video. I bought the round version. Funny thing is, my husband only uses wood, and I've been using the old plastic cutting board, and he yells at me. Old sheets, towels, and blanketd are great donations for animal shelters. You've got me hooked on the bamboo sheets. I won't use anything other sheets now. They're even on my guest bed, and my daughter only uses bamboo sheets for my grandson's crib. I just did a pj clean out. Next is definitely my sock drawer. Happy and Healthy New Year, Shea. I hope your mouth is healing and feeling better. ❤❤

Don’t trash hole-y socks! They’re great for dusting! Slide them on your hand with the top side (non holey side) over your palm. I use them for polishing furniture because they don’t leave lint or scratch. Then if you don’t feel like washing it, toss it in the trash.

I keep old sheets in a large garbage bag in my storage space to use as drop cloths for painting. And your'e right, some old towels are good to have around - for weird cleaning jobs or...in case of a plumbing emergency! Thanks so much for the recommendation on the cutting board. I use my old sheets, blankets, and towels for the animals, cover plants or take to the woods camping. The same goes for extra butter containers, ice cream or anything plastic that can be reused. Growing up it was always a guessing game with the butter containers. We always hand my grandchildren, clothes down that ate on still good condition. The medications, I'm guilty of having alot of out of date medications. Thanks for all the wonderful tips and may you have a Blessed day.

Goodness! I do this often and it kills my mom and mother in law 😅 they can’t believe how “easily” I can part from items. But I can’t do the clutter! I have 4 going on 5 kids and they have limited clothes. But they actually use the things they love the most and not have all the other stuff to make them feel guilty. That goes with a lot of their things. It shows them how to take care of things they love and how they don’t need A LOT of extra things! Same goes throughout my home. Holidays and birthdays just replace things 😊

Another way to get rid of some stuffs is that if you feel they are of value then sell the item at the price where you can immediately dispose them. In that way you could get a money out of it and declutter at the same time. Sometimes seller are happy to pay for the shipping so its a win win scenario

Yesssss! I'm with you....Exactly! For quite awhile I was trying to find one or more items a day, when possible, to part with. It's a great feeling to have less! And when I go to use something or put something on I assess if it is time to part with, whether trash or a donate bag. And then when I put something in the trash I always thank the item for being useful/helpful and valuable to my life. LOL!....I gotta express my appreciation when I gently place it in the bin, with respect and gratitude. 😁😆 Thank you for the great suggestions on vitamins and cutting board, etc. Great!!

I have donated some makeups and shampoos, lotions, to homeless women’s shelters . Nothing that fingers or applicators have dipped into, but they told me even powdered eye shadow can be used if the top is scraped off and lipstick that has had the top cut off. No mascaras or liquid eyeliner that has been used. I google some organizations that take these. They give you guidelines.

Shea I just wanted to tell you to thank your husband for the Christmas ideas for men. My husband watched this video with me, and he thought our male relatives would love the Amazon screwdriver with the multiple heads. One guy downsized with his wife (retirement) and lives in an apartment now and the other guy was young (a new homeowner) but very handy around the house. They both loved that little device for different reasons. Thanks again. You are looking great, BTW. Hope you feel good too.

Excellent ideas and I have already done a few. For unused towels, bath and pool size, I give them to our vet (dog doctor) because they need them for injured animals to clean and dry them. Just gave them six pool towels because (duh) we don't own a pool, and we live in New Mexico ... no beaches! Trial size anything .... I put one each front and center of whatever (make-up, cleaning , laundry, toothpaste, dishwasher, etc) and force myself to at least try it then use it up or dump it.

I wouldn't just throw away cleaning chemicals. Can call a hazardous waste place in your town or maybe in your county depending on the size of your town and figure out how to dispose of them properly or if you can just drop them off there. Also, when it comes to flower vases there are some florists that will be glad for you to donate them back to them to reuse. That is something my mom does all the time in my hometown.

the towels, i argue with my hubby about keeping some of the old ones for rags and he's like, we don't need them blah blah. well last year an AC pipe in the attack broke and leaked all over the 2nd floor and ceiling. I was like, i've been waiting for this and pulled out all the old towels i had kept for rags and soaked up the water haha. I did throw those away when we were done, then he bought some new towels a few months later because he was at Costco alone haha, so I went through and replaced some older ones and then had way too many rag towels so i took them to an animal hospital near me and they were so happy to get all the towels and a few blankest! the bleached holly ones went to the trash but the ehh ones were donated to the doggies. - the multiples of similar things, lol, i go through my closet every season and 2 years ago i realized i had 2 of the same shirt from the same store but not just 1 time, 3 times, there were 2 of the 3 that had slight differences not exactly the same but they were the same color and cut just 1 had pockets and the other didn't, i got rid of the one i didn't like as much, haha i didn't realize how much i like certain styles. i wore them both without realizing it.

I like to use up my samples, especially when I travel. I keep a pouch with "travel makeup" and choose from there - it really lightens the load. And makeup doesn't "expire" quite as soon as companies say they do. Liquids and mascara do, but powders seem to last forever.

I hope you put stop buying so much stuff at the end. There’s the solution that will also keep money in the bank. Or help you pay for groceries.

Before you throw your make up , check if animal shelter or animal hospital can use the mascara wands ! Some actually use those when treating wounds .

Me and my 22 swimsuits , 😅 I have decluttered almost every other category and threw out a few swimsuits that had the elastic break down but they have since been replaced. My former pool/beachbunny self has a small grip on me even though I now only swim a few times/week as opposed to a few hours/day.

Great ideas. After watching this video I went into my bathroom and cleaned out my makeup drawer. How long has it been? I just added more samples from Sephora yesterday. So I started in…. Do you know how many tubes of mascara I had? 8 tubes!!! One tube, I know I’ve had for over a year. So I narrowed them down to 3. Blush!! 6 compacts of blush and I only use one. The others are too dark or not blushing enough. Eye shadow?? Oh, I can’t stand it. Anyway, my trash can is full and my makeup drawer is neat and roomy. Tomorrow I’ll count my brushes. I have so many brushes. Do I wash them or toss them? I’m always buying new brushes. Maybe I’ll count them now that I’m on a roll.

I love this video. Soooo ready to tackle the house the week! Also! Tip for those free makeup and skincare samples…. I have made a little emergency bag I keep in the car… we are annual pass holders to Disney world, and there have been sooooo many times we find ourselves in Orlando at the parks too long and end up getting a last minute hotel because we don’t want to drive home… oftentimes we are without even a change of clothes! But I put all my little sample makeups and skincare products in a to go bag with a pair of clean undies, and just leave it in the back of the car! … it’s saved my bacon so many times to have this little pack!

Thanks for the tips @SHEAWHITNEY! But I have another twist on number 23, put away all the toys and/or games that are not been using for a while in the basement/ garage etc for a rotation in the next quarter. That way you don't need to buy another toy or game later on but for the kids it feels newish 😅🥰 This tip saves both money and the environment 🤩 We do a rotation of toys every 2-3 month 😃 Love from Sweden

A great thing to do is donate these things to your local women shelter. Most women seeking refuge leave with nothing so these things really help them. This is what I do and the shelter is always so grateful.
