My dad owns a 1981 Datsun 280ZX. He's trying to find a part. I'll do my best to explain: it is a 1981 Datsun 280zx Headlight Wiper Combination Switch. His headlight dimmer switch is not working. I've been searching all of the Z part sites. Any assistance would be appreciated. 🙏

I don't think the lenses are easily removable on those units, but an easy first step for my 510 was to toss all of those parts in the dishwasher. It's amazing how much gunk can get caught in small places that you don't notice how bad it is until it's cleaned, polished, and clear coated. Also, not a huge deal, but if you cut inside your line for the lights, you can then fold over a "lip" to keep some structural integrity on that rear panel and keep it looking stock-ish.

Heh. I wouldn't necessarily have thought about the mountings for the lights being that different. (I like the later-model taillights at least as much, myself, so never thought about swapping mine when I had one from '77. :) I was thinking about going to the dark grey color or black for the rear panel, mine was body colored and I was ambivalent about that, but I never did make up my mind. :)

I think if I still had that car I would much miss the Victoria British parts catalog, ...they no longer sell Z car stuff but their *parts catalog* had a way of having exploded views of everything mechanical. Maybe not to the extent they did for like MGBs and such, but a lot. Also many accessories you probably can't find anymore, but I lived next to a Z-car specialist place/junkyard anyway, so I got a lot of things there. "Wait, you want to put louvers *on* your car? Sure, take your pick from this pile." ) Worth getting a hold of one if you can find it, though. I (I left mine with *my* S30 when I had to leave that car behind with friends in Texas, cause I just couldn't handle Texas, or I'd send you one. Maybe Ebay. :) )

The thing about the tail lights I would have thought you would have tried the toothbrush and toothpaste method

The thing about *old* taillights is they tend to get kind of grainy all the way through, so if you just polish them they will be cloudy again before you know it. Better to sand em down, (I'd polish somewhat, if the plastic even allows it, ) then clearcoat em.
