This was terrific Patrick, so interesting. Those wooden sculptures are lovely, great detail. Glad the rain wasn't too bad for you. Very nice comfy guest house. Thanks again Patrick.

Fascinating, Patrick. Whilst we like vlogs of places known to us, equally appreciated are videos of places and walks we know nothing about...such as this one! Many thanks!

Thanks Patrick, really enjoyed the film. It’s so nice to see you revisiting childhood places. I still live in the same house I moved to as a five year old fifty eight years ago 👀😂

Glad you enjoyed it Claire. Yeah not been to any of these places for a very long time now, so it was nice to revisit. Great to still be living in your house for so many years 👍😀

Thankyou Patrick for another lovely walk, shame about the church not being open, but a lovely castle. There is something nostalgic about revisiting places from childhood, again thankyou and have a good weekend 😊

Thanks Step. Yes it's always hit and miss as to whether I can access a church, but glad you liked the look of the castle. It's been a very long time since I was in this particular area, so great to be back. Have a great weekend too 👍😀

Excellent. Keep this stuff coming mate. Unpretentious, down to earth narrative and wonderful film work. Like how you big up the hardworking guesthouse community too. Rambling is a gift we can all enjoy so easily in this country and your an ambassador :)

Glad you enjoyed it Darren. I'd certainly stay at that B&B again if I was ever over that way. I usually use Booking.com which came up with some good deals for when I was travelling down to the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean several times last year. All the best 👍

That's a very nice view, Patrick, looking over to the first road bridge, where you're stood at the railing. That second road bridge is another fete of civil engineering over the Severn. Those concrete supports must go down well below the river bed. Caldicot is a very pleasant village, and the castle is a very sturdy fortress, complete with moat. A Great Western steam locomotive had that name 'Caldicot Castle' by the way, Patrick. A most pleasant video to watch, thank you. Take care.

Glad you enjoyed the video Ffranc. Both bridges are very impressive aren't they. It was nice to see Caldicot Castle after so many years. As always thanks for watching and commenting 👍

I never knew about the Prince of Wales Bridge crossing from England to South Wales. It must have been built after leaving Bristol. Never knew there was a coastal path alongside the Severn though. I do enjoy your tours around your accommodation. A striking musical arrangement full of atmospheric vibes. Thanks Patrick and lovely to share your memories too.
@solitaryramblerАй бұрын
Morning Shanita, yes the Prince of Wales Bridge is very different to the first Severn Bridge, but I'll always prefer the old one. I remember first driving over the new bridge when it opened - you didn't feel like you were crossing a bridge as it was so smooth. I think the Wales Coast Path is relatively new, but there seem to be coastal trails around most of the UK now. Glad you liked my B&B tour. Thank you as always for your kind words on the music. It was the same theme actually as the one in the previous film, but I used completely different instrument voices here. Thanks Shanita, all the best 👍

When I saw Black Rock in the title, for a moment there I thought you were back in the Peak District ! I was interested to see the Prince of Wales bridge. I have driven across there, but never actually seen it from a distance. It is rather impressive. Thanks for all the hard work you put into researching, making and editing these videos Patrick, it is really appreciated.
@solitaryrambler2 ай бұрын
Haha yeah very different to that Black Rock! 😁 The Prince of Wales Bridge is another impressive bridge. I do remember the first time I drove over it was so smooth, you didn't actually feel you were crossing a bridge in some ways. I always prefer the old Severn Bridge though for more personal reasons I guess though. Thanks Peter for all your kind words and for watching, all the best 👍

Imagine through the ages how they struggled through tidal waters to cross the Severn safely. Now there are three ways to cross. We don't realise how lucky we are. Coldicot castle looked great. It's always the way to find them shut the day of your visit. You have the same luck as me 😅. Place where you stayed looked good and hope you enjoyed time with your mother. Cheers Patrick 😊
@solitaryramblerАй бұрын
Yes it's an amazing thought knowing there are three different crossings over the Severn Estuary. I don't think there was much more to see inside Caldicot Castle when I managed to look through the open gate, but it was good to see all the same. The Lychgate turned out to be a fine B&B indeed. Thanks as always Kelly for watching and commenting. All the best 👍

Ah, Monday Patrick. It had to be that way eh? Still, an impressive castle. The bridges are impressive of course and the new one has a very interesting design - well practical design. I've yet to travel over it. A shame about the church - it seems you were shut out of everywhere. Good job you had the guest house. And a nice place too. I hope you're well up there Patrick. All the best. Mark
@solitaryramblerАй бұрын
Hi Mark, yeah one of those things, but I got a little look inside the castle with that open gate round to the side 😁 The bridges are great and certainly the newer one is more practical now. I'll always prefer the original though. Not my day again for churches, but never mind. The guest house was a good 'un. Thanks as always Mark for watching, all good here, take care down there too 👍
@WyeExplorerАй бұрын
@@solitaryrambler Yeah, you did a get a peak Patrick - I was hoping for a pic. Oh, for sure the original is in your heart and your mum's but that new one has something. No, churches don't always play friendly. But there are plenty thankfully. Nice to see the guest house. A pleasure as always.

I like a good castle, checked online and apparently it's free. I remember having to detour around the M5 and M50 once as the Severn bridge was closed going from Bristol to Cardiff, meant I got back over 2 hours late to Stoke, work weren't impressed.
@solitaryrambler2 ай бұрын
Haha yeah I can remember how much of a detour was created when the old Severn Bridge closed. Yes the castle is free, shame it was closed this particular day, but at least I got a look inside from the outer walls 👍

I used to travel through the Severn Tunnel from time to time many years ago. It always felt that the train was heading steeply downwards, then suddenly you would feel it reach the bottom and start heading upwards again. Did you ever have that feeling? Nice views of the bridges.
@solitaryramblerАй бұрын
It's been a very long time since I traveled through the Severn Tunnel. I must admit I don't recall the feeling of heading down so much - my memories were more of how long it took traveling through darkness on the train. Thanks Michael for watching 👍
