I love the sound of the crunching bits and pieces under foot. You could spend hours there picking out favorites and imagining where they started. I love too that your Grandchild was interested in the pipe and found a piece to make it complete. The castle was amazing! So much history. Fabulous. Thank you my lovelies xx Teresa 🇦🇺❤

I love your 'Grandad's Workshop' sign! What a fabulous gift. The history of the Castle is fascinating and what a wonderful Council they had, putting people first and housing them rather than just watching an old building crumble. We could do with some of that logic nowadays. Lovely video 😀💗 x

It really is a stunning place and all open to the public, which is brilliant. As for the knowledge, we're only learning as we go! We do our research and when we find somewhere that looks good for a video and has an interesting story we set off on our travels and share it with all the lovely people who watch our channel. Sometimes we actually discover things on the day and then share them with everyone, like the Archives Office in Ebbw Vale, we didn't know if we'd be allowed to film the ornate stairway which was what attracted us to the building, but never imagined that we'd get to film inside the Archive Secure Storeroom!! Life is full of surprises, and we have the fun of sharing them with folks like yourself which just adds to the joy. 🙂😎🐼🐼

Caroline. I can’t walk away from a pretty or interesting rock either. The borders around our house is made up of a ton of great rocks. Really interesting ones. Do you happen to know when the last castle was built of wood and the first castle was built of stone? And where they both were located?
@LetsgowithTheJohnsons
@LetsgowithTheJohnsons 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Michelanne... The area was significant in the iron age and to the Romans, but we owe the fortifications that stand today to The Normans. It's believed it was Walter FitzRoger, Sheriff of Gloucestershire who built the first castle, an earth and timber motte-and-bailey fortification, which was located about 1/2 mile north of the current castle. In 1221 Caldicot passed through marriage to The Earl of Hereford and he built the stone castle on its current site. 🙂😎🐼

@LetsgowithTheJohnsons
@LetsgowithTheJohnsons 2 жыл бұрын
hat was the estuary of the Severn River as it reaches the Bristol Channel Barbara. The bridge we usually park under is called The Severn Bridge and opened in 1966 and the one we were nearer to today is The Prince of Wales Bridge which opened in 1996, but was just known as the 2nd Severn Crossing until 2018 when they gave it a name. Both bridges form a gateway between Wales and England 🙂😎🐼
