My opinion on Sark WAS that he was a solid football coach, with incredible football IQ, but he was a troubled man and his personal issues led him to struggle with leadership. I was at salute to Troy the day Sark came out plastered drunk to start USC’s football season. Today Sark appears to be a reformed man. He seems like he’s come out of his personal issues as far better a coach than he’s ever been, and he might even be a better coach for having had those issues. Sark has been a big part of the best versions of generational dynasties in the sport and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

One thing some people forget is that Texas's talent advantage might have worked against them in the Big 12. When you play Iowa State and West Virginia every year, there's not as much of a drive to improve. Cleaning up fundamentals (penalties, tackling, etc.) wasn't necessary because of the raw talent imbalance, but that's the difference between good teams and great teams. The effort Texas puts into each game might get better since they just can't afford to play down to the competition anymore.

It's not that we're sick of hearing about Texas (well not just that) it's that we're sick of all these "experts" (pate included) trying to convince us that TX is, and has been, a top 5 or top 3 program after 1 very good (not great) season. As if the 15 years of 7 win football don't matter. Not only that, we're all being told that sarkisian is a top 5 or 3 coach. Before last year, his best season as a head coach was 9 wins 1 time. In his 9 full seasons as a HC, he's won 7 or less games 5 times. These are his win totals for his 9 full seasons as a HC: 5, 7, 7, 7, 8, 9, 5, 8, 12. Just given the numbers without any context and 1 sticks out as an anomaly, last year's 12 wins. Anyone would say that's a mid record by a mid coach, and would laugh if u said they're being called a top 3 or top 5 coach in the country These aren't elite numbers for the team or coach. 1 good season doesn't make a program or coach elite. I'd even argue that it was just 1 win. Had they not beaten bama last year (yes, i agree a double digit win against bama on the road was a huge win), even if they beat OK and made the playoffs, I bet we aren't getting the same level of hype and man crushing we're getting now. Texas and sark need to keep up what they started last year for multiple years before they're legitimately being talked about like they currently are.

texas had a perfect storm last year - hit Alabama before they gelled. all of the lil'12 was down. beat UH with the help of a missed 1st down spot. beat KSU b/c of a missed XP. texas gets the easiest SEC schedule this season of all 16 teams. THE EASIEST. they'll get a new Michigan team before they gel. They'll likely be 8-4.

@scottd1903 Ай бұрын
@marcusjones5287 yep. One great win doesn't make a program. Talk to me when they can repeat that success for a few years. How are they being thought of as higher than a team like michigan? I get it harbaugh left, but they've been elite for 3 years running, and it's not like they were bad before that. They had 3 10 win seasons over the 5 full years before 2021 (and 8 and 9 the other 2). Before last year, sark has never had a 10 win season, and Texas last one was like 2008.

Yes this is how it always is with Texas. It happened sometimes with Oklahoma but least they deserved it. Also this crap about how Texas no going to always be playing better teams is silly. their schedule this year looks comparable to last year in from start to finish. In both years their regular season schedule has them play 5 teams before OU and 6 after. When comparing those The Big 12 schedule start to finish is not much easier than the SEC. The biggest difference is Georgia which is absolutely harder than anything is the big 12 but the rest of the SEC schedule is way easier by comparison. OU is on both schedules so that cancels out. Their road games in 24' are Vandy, Arkansas and TAMU with a first year coach compared to 23' with Baylor, Houston, TCU, and Iowa St. Their home games in 24' are Mississippi St, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky with another first year coach while their 23' home games brought is KU, BYU, K-State, Texas Tech. While its harder to go undefeated in the SEC schedule I think the SEC schedule has some very bad teams and a shorter schedule and that really simplifies the SEC schedule. Just a reminder Texas beat K-state in overtime at home by 4. Vegas would tell us that if that game had been played in Manhattan Texas would have lost and finished in a three way tie for 1st in the Big 12 with OU and Oklahoma St. relying on a tiebreaker to determine their fate

So if Ewers would’ve played then we probably win by 30. But that’s would’ve and I don’t like to talk about that or if’s for that matter. The schedule looks the same? So 11 wins then? That’s what you’re saying😂? Tie breaker? Dude oU lost to teams we blew out and struggled with others who were in the bottom 6 of the conference. C’mon now.

Is it just me, or is Josh always talking about Miami? For a team that hasn’t done anything of note in decades, he seems to talk about them almost every other episode. Like even at SEC media days, he can’t stop talking about Miami. We get it Josh, you think they’re on the up and up. How about we hold off on discussing them literally every 2 or 3 episodes until they yknow, make the playoffs. Not sure they’ll even be able to do it in a 12 team playoff. And I’m not complaining that he talks about them occasionally, but talking about them THIS often is just annoying. Like when was the last time Josh talked about some smaller P4 programs like Purdue, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Cincinnati… all of those teams have the same odds of winning a natty in the next couple of seasons as Miami. And no, I don’t care if Miami is +2,000 and those teams are +25,000… for all intents and purposes, Miami has no chance anytime soon.

What I don’t hear many people talking about is how the ratings will be impacted by the additional losses incurred by consolidating these teams. A national audience will watch a top 10 Alabama play a top 10 FSU, but who will tune in when one or both of them have 3+ losses
@wdsmkc
@wdsmkc Ай бұрын
That is actually why you stockpile mega brands. Pull in teams that will get more national eyeballs in a losing season than someone like Virginia will get in a 10 win season. And the deal with programs like FSU is... they will have ups and downs like anyone else, but there is ALWAYS the commitment to get back up. Meanwhile, you can give UVA all the resources in the world, and they'll just always be UVA. That's why (if they were smart) the SEC would target Virginia Tech if they were to expand into Virginia. Let the Big 10 grab a UVA team absolutely no one cares about and pat themselves on the back for how academically superior they are. I'm still just baffled by the academics thing. I've been to about 350 major college football games. I've never seen anyone working on the cure for cancer in the stands. These are athletic conferences, not lecture halls.

Sark has done a good/very good job so far. I don’t think I would swap Coach Hype for him but I imagine there might be 20-25 programs that wouldn’t. The rest would do it in a heartbeat. If he wins a Natty or two then he hits elite status. I’m not sure winning the Big-12 elevates to elite status. Just making the playoffs doesn’t elevate to elite status. That goes for Coach Hype as well. I know my son (an SC fan) would swap out Beamer in an instant. GBO!!!

They are not in the same tier as Alabama and Georgia; at least not yet. They are not going to come to the SEC and take over, in spite of what the talking heads in the media think. The top 4 in the B10 is Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, and Penn State. Iowa only plays one, Ohio state, Penn State doesn’t play 2 (Oregon or Michigan), Michigan could be great and plays both Oregon and Ohio State, and Rutgers doesn’t play any of the top 4.
