249: Massey 2607H - 100 Hour Review

Just a simple chit chat with my thoughts after the first 100 hours, then some work around the property cleaning up a few spots. Comment with any questions regarding my experience so far.

Great video and review! I definitely think a few changes to the controls would put this tractor on the next level. Even the 4707 I didn’t think was as well setup in operators station as it could be. I like how you can hear the turbo on the engine, with my particulate filter you can’t hear the turbo much. Appreciate the mention! Take care!

Thank you! The turbo sounds nice but when it spools up, I remember how much diesel costs right now. I haven't operated a 4707, but I would expect autopilot and a recliner when you start paying that much for a tractor lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Nice M-F 2607H ! & review , Thanks for the video ! Came across this watching the video on your GMC truck , & I own 2 M-F's myself both have been really good tractors for me ! A old 1 & a newer one. 1959 M-F 50 & a 2018 M-F 1526 .

It's retro. It's tough. It's relatively simple compared to others on the market today. You need a deckover trailer to steal it, btw... LOL.

I've got the same tractor. I've got 150 hrs on mine now. The only complaint I have is the parking brake cables. They get water in them if you play in the rain. And if it gets cold they freeze. Can't release the parking brake without thawing them out. Thats the only complaint I have. I absolutely love this tractor. I've pulled oak logs 12 ft long, 4ft in diameter in a muddy field in low 3rd and it didn't know it was back there.

Well, that's a good thing to know! I might spray some WD40 in there to keep moisture out... Yes, it's got some brute strength and weight to it for the hard jobs. I love mine. Did you get your tires loaded?

@fabbedfun8133 yes I did get them loaded. Just the rear with rimguard. (Beet juice) I've sprayed probably a can of wd 40 down those cables since last winter. Still froze up on me this winter. I just shut it off and leave it in gear if it's below freezing. Lol

@@ryokom321 Must have gotten a ton of water down those cables. Ouch. My rears are loaded with RimGuard as well. I think, with a loader, ballasted tires, and a carry-all, I'm probably tipping the scales around 10K. Did you get your wheels spaced out or standard (72" roughly)?

The rubber boots were slid up the cables so they weren't doing any good. Didn't catch it till it was too late. I didnt space them out like you did. I just went the first step out. Just enough to have some clearance for tire chains. And tire chains make it a completely different animal in the winter. They make a huge difference on those wide lugged tires.

I have the same unit, nice tractor. I notice I have coolant weeping from what appears to be the thermostat housing. The machine hasn't run hot or even warm and not losing much coolant enough to add any. But I'm a bit aggravated as I only have 200 hours on the machine. Used for shredding, pasture dragging, road maintenance and light loader work. (Round bales, manure) Thanks, nice video

Perhaps one guy that day didn't put enough sealant on the housing or missed an o-ring? Who knows. All products, all brands can be victim to a simple human error. Did you talk to your dealer about it? They might be willing to make a service call to your property for a fast repair before it's a more serious issue...

Emissions stuff is just so exhausting! I'm glad I don't deal with regen. So far, I really like the Massey, but it is not the Cadillac of tractors. Very utilitarian.

The changes requested would be found in the MF4707. Be in mind this is the heritage tractor. This set up is what built Massey and what generational farmers aee use to. I would love to get this tractor. But, my MF1739E is a work horse it just take me longer to tackle a task.

Yes! Exactly! I think the 4707 is a bit more of a beast than I need, but it does appear to have a few more creature comforts. So far, I am very happy with the 2607H and hope they have the heritage model displayed at the Farm Machinery Expo tomorrow. It needs more publicity!

I have a 2605 not the H model but in a 2wd and I love it hopefully one day I’ll get a front loader which is still available.

I have the same tractor and so far love it! try the float function on your bucket for leveling if you have not. it levels much better with that than trying to guess the bucket angle

How many hours you have on it so far? I think it's very utilitarian and has served me EXACTLY for the reasons I wanted it over other tractors. Beefy is a term that comes to mind haha.

@@FabbedFun it’s a very solid machine. I wanted something with no electronic frills to tear up and keep most all the functions manually. I barely have it broke in at close to 20 hours. My two favorite add ons are hydraulic top link and the ratchet rake attachment on the bucket. Works wonders

I have 200 hours on my 2607 and I love it no problems yet I’ve abused it for a new rig done more that most would have I imagine, the walensten backhoe the Massey dealer got me to match it is a take for a tractor backhoe I’ve ripped up 100 stumps or more and some were massive I cleared 2acer by 1/4 acer for a half acer garlic patch , just getting ready to see how she tills here in a week er 2 , all so I have a 5 inch hydraulic feed wood chipper attachment too works good on the 2607, she’s a all around great rig i call er

Absolutely! It doesn't steer hard, but I find working a loader and moving requires a knob. I do think a hydraulic shuttle would make loader work a little faster, but I wouldn't want to pay another $5000+ just for the hydro shuttle on a tractor this size. Thanks for watching!

The seat on my Kubota also fails to impress, not bad for a short run but spending hours on that hard seat can be a pain, literately. Some times the cab is tight as a Glove LOL.

I think that "tightness" with controls huddled around you can be easy when you're staying in the seat, but a pain point if you're jumping in and out of the operator station doing chores. Thanks for the input, and thank you for watching and commenting regularly!

Now that's a real tractor....73hp, big tires, and low fuel tank fill - what's not to like? Interesting that it doesn't regen....does it use DEF?

No DPF. No DEF. It does have a simpler catalytic converter type of device in the exhaust system, but it doesn't have to go through a regen mode and is supposed to be a more durable, long-term system. DEF typically comes in at 75 hp with the Tier IV government encroachment and overreach nonsense. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'd take that fuel location over the location on my RK25 any day. Also see no rubber covers on the pedals, that is one of my pet peeves, as they tend to 'roll off' once in a while. And I'll just say, 7-8 hours in any seat and I think I would become somewhat uncomfortable 😀

Great points! It's not just the seat... it's that you lean a little to reach common controls. Not bad for an hour, but tiring after several using the same controls. RK seemed to really consider comfort for the operator. I was surprised how many small things they did right for the price point. Pretty cool stuff! Thanks for watching!

Is it a synchronized hydro shuttle? Like no clutch for forward to reverse and able to switch gears while moving?

No, it's mechanical shuttle. A little more simplicity and budget-friendly. You just have to hit the clutch. It works well for my type of work, and I think it would be a terrific hay tractor.

I love mine for how I use it. I'm sure some people will want a cab, or more electronics. I wanted bulletproof simplicity and weight. For a new tractor in the utility class, you can't get much more simple than this one. I definitely recommend it if that's what you're looking for. The ONLY legitimate complaint I have so far is the shuttle shift is starting to get a little moody... and I don't mean that it isn't working... it just needs to be pushed a little harder into reverse or it may pop out when you start to move. It has only started doing that in the last ten or fifteen hours. There is likely an adjustment on the shuttle shift rod linkage to help, but it hasn't been enough of a nuisance to matter. It's just a conscious decision to make sure it clicks in before you let the clutch out. So really, it's not even a complaint. It just shifts a little easier into forward than reverse, so use a bit of authority to shift and no problem. It's all manual linkage, not hydraulic or electronic - which is what I wanted. It's not synchronized, so it probably doesn't even need adjustment now that I think about it. I just need to make sure it's in. That being said, I LOVE THIS TRACTOR!!!

Love your videos on the tractor. I just purchased the 2606h. I was told customers are burning out their clutches when using the front loader bucket (pushing or digging dirt). Im not sure how accurate this fair warning was. Did you have a similar issue (clutch) when using your front loader bucket?

No issues with the clutch at all, but I'm almost always in first gear when I'm pushing or digging. I try not to strain the driveline too much. I think a lot of people ride the clutch with their foot instead of lifting it off. I hear that causes a lot of premature wear. I don't think I do that.

Do you find the PTO engagement lever sits too low? Just looking at it in a number of videos, it looks like you have to reach down to engage/disengage the PTO. To me, the handle needs to be longer and higher up, so that it is in easier reach. It doesn't look like it is "in reach" unless you bend down/over some? Just wondering if someone actually using the tractor as yourself has found that to be the case or not. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I think that was a major trade off between the Kubota M7060 I test drove and the Massey 2607H. The Kubota had everything right in ergonomics, but it traded that convenience for room. My operator station feels very open, but some levers and knobs are a slight lean away. Since I get off and on the tractor a lot, I like the space and open feel without bumping into stuff. If I were to spend hours and hours in the seat without moving, I think the Kubota ergonomics would be pretty handy. For bigger guys, the Kubota might feel just a little cramped. I'm 6 feet tall and 225 lbs, so I'm not tiny, but not a giant person either. The Massey fits me, but I do lean a little for some functions like the PTO, which I use much less than the loader and 3 point lift. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I’m new to tractors, bought a Kioti 4010 few years ago, what I find strange in these Massey’s is the lose in HP from engine to PTO. The CK 4010 is rated at 39 engine HP with PTO HP at about 35-37. Massey loses about 16 in some models from engine to PTO. If I had to upgrade to a bigger tractor I’d like to go with Massey, but once I saw that some of their 60HP tractors were getting lil over 40 to the PTO, I was not too excited about going with a Massey. is this just a Massey thing, or am I missing something. Also when comparing Massey models, this tractor in particular had almost half the lifting capacity on the 3 point vs some of their smaller tractor lineup? What’s the deal with this? I’d except the bigger models with a higher lift capacity.

Great questions! Kioti puts up GREAT specs in a dollar for dollar comparison to just about any tractor. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of dealer support in my area. I would venture to say the HP loss is just the efficiency of the hydro pump. Claimed HP is always exact to "tested" HP, but I would venture to say most manufacturers are pretty accurate. Also, the 3 point hitch capacity on my tractor shows 2755 lbs at 24" from the eyes. When I compared specs, Massey and Mahindra had the weight for the price, but Kioti had the best hydraulics if I remember right. They are really trying to make a name for themselves. A comparable tractor to mine from Kioti was the RX7320, but I could only find them with a cab (and that made them higher $$$). The rear lift is about 1100 lbs stronger (design of rear lift arms is the main factor in this - I looked at them closely). If I had a nearby dealer who had distributed Kioti and had a good, long-term shop... I would have considered them very very closely. Another thing I liked about the Massey was not DPF or regen mode. Less drama to go wrong. All in all, I'm still a big fan of Kioti's specs.

Massey’s tend to concentrate on hydraulic flow. They usually have more gpm to the loader and remote valves. Make loader work smooth and efficient. This cuts down somewhat on PTO hp. Everything is a trade off. I’d take a Massey everyday and twice on Sunday over a Kioti, and I like Kioti’s.

I like the old school simplicity and the size vs the Kioti RX. Yes Kioti knocks it out of the park with lift capacity but there’s trade off. I don’t wanna deal With Regens and other issues with a more modern tractor.

The ergonomics really concern me. I have been going back and forth between this and the John Deere 4-5 series. John Deere seems to be really well put together for operator comfort. Opinions?

I think your 5 E series won't be that much better... but the nicer series will be more comfortable for the "average" guy. I think the Kubota M7060 is definitely worth a look... BUT I like the spacing of the controls on the Massey if you're a bigger guy or plan on getting on/off your tractor a lot. If you can stay in the seat for hours, then find something that's comfortable for you. No doubt JD, Kubota, Massey, etc make great units.

Around 5900, plus loader and bucket (1400+ lbs I assume), plus ballast in tires (Rim Guard around 1400 lbs), and carry-all is almost always on it and loaded... I'm estimating mine rolls around most places about 9200 lbs

72" is standard but I wanted wheels spaced out so requested the 84" to cover the width of the back wheels. I think it was a few hundred extra.

That motor seems to have a little more “grunt” than a Perkins 3 cylinder. Is it a 2 stage clutch?

It's a Simpson copy of the Perkins design. It's 74 hp. I don't know if it's a two stage clutch. I definitely don't use it that way. I rarely ever have anything hooked up to the PTO anyway. It's a loader, a pickup truck, or a skidder most of the time. Thanks for watching!

The next video will be me recovering from this odd battle I'm having with clogged drain lines. I don't know what is going on. Ran the snake down both sections of the drain lines under the house, then down the line to the septic tank. Draining slow. With all this rain lately, I'm thinking my leach field is water logged and not draining fast enough for a house with six kids. Hmmm.... This is not fun activity for video lol.
