Hei Lotta, thanks for sharing your adventure, I’m heading myself on a 100 km dogtrekking race this coming weekend. Pretty much fast hike with a dog 🐕 wish us good luck. Looking forward to part 2 💪🏻

Could you do a video on what you pack for longer hikes/expeditions?

Thanks for this wish! I’ll try to include tips in all my videos but could be a good one to do an expedition packing list-video 🙌🏻

Amazing experience! I tried the trek to Halti last July but quitted at Saarijärvi after the first camping night since my eye was infected somehow. I am going to finish the trek this coming July (or better late June) but I am still being scared of the mosquitoes. How did you deal with the clouds of annoying mosquitoes?

How do you pack enough water for a 9 hour hike? Also, if you get a heart attack in the middle of nowhere who gonna save you?
@sassy5332
@sassy5332 4 жыл бұрын
Why would Lotta have a heart attack? I think phones still works if something happens. Also its seems like that’s the best part that you can be there all alone. Maybe its Finnish thing maybe not

I was refilling my bottles as there were lots of opportunities for that in the wilderness. And that place is definitely in the middle of nowhere so there’s hoping that no one will get badly sick...

Lotta Dear, you lack a few understandings. If you are ever stopped - by night, or being lost, or storm, or injury, or having to rescue someone, or aliens looking for Zeta Aphrodite - if your feet are wet, and the temperatures fall below freezing, you lose your toes. Every morning, when you get out of bed, say good morning to all your toes, and see how pretty they are, and vow to be buried with all ten (or perhaps in your case, eleven) of them. Mine are ugly, and I still greet them all individually every morning, and, you will not have to worry about this, I have a couple of unused nads and I have vowed to be buried with both of THEM. As you can see, I will not be buried with both my eyes, but I can't see my eyes, only my toes and nads. But I, Mr. Oneye, will need only ONE penny to cross the River Styx. If Charon sees two, he will not let me thru. A penny saved, oh nevermind. So ... you must buy waterproof footwear, I recommend soft leather, and treat them with sprays, NOT nikwax, and seal any rands, and coat them with snowseal once a year (trick, cover them thick with snowseal that will not go in, put them each in a plastic bag, and throw them in the windshield of you car, parked in the sun, and let the sun do the cooking), and polish them with beeswax before every outing, and, very important for oneyes like me, put the right one on the right foot, and buy them a little big. And wear snuggy happy socks, at least one thick one, or a thin liner and a medium outer, and carry a spare set in your pack, which can also be used as gloves if you need to. All that cr-p about letting your feet breathe is cr-p. Wash your feet. My feet are not getting into to MY bed unwashed. I will cross a river barefoot rather than get my boots and socks wet. And my boots sleep next to me. In bags. Oh, and use gaiters. I have customized gaiters that go OVER my knees. And instead of rain pants which necessitate taking my boots off, I use a rain kilt that goes below my knees. And I customize my jackets to have extra long sleeves so if it's raining my hands can go in my sleeves. And I never buy a jacket without a hood. And Lotta, your foods are a little processed. How about an apple? Aphrodite's Golden Apples are legend. Or a Mandarin / Clementine? Yes, I know, a coconut is just too, uh, ugly. Or a cheese sandwich? Sometime I cook yummy Thai or Indian chicken and put that between bread. Yum yum. I'll stop now, except to say, you and everyone are too paranoid about water. If you can see the source, you can drink it. If there's no human between you and the source, you can drink it. Giardia is only a problem below Lakes. The best water you will ever drink is free running mountain water. Today I use a Katadyn Befree. Simple. And give them away as gifts. In socks.
