It’s our first time visiting South Korea, so which better place to start than in the vibrant capital city of Seoul!? After spending a few days in the exciting, busy, and inviting metropolis of South Korea, it was time to explore the calmer, more serene and culturally significant area of Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul.
Although not necessarily a tourist attraction, this residential area is over 600 years old and has some of the most stunning architecture. Ranging from classic hanoks to newly refurbished ones. Lucky for us, we managed to book a stay in a recently refurbished hanok right in the heart of Bukchon Hanok Village, which is now a luxurious hotel for visitors to enjoy and experience the old style of living (with modern amenities, of course).
From the food, the surroundings, and even down to the outfits - we absolutely loved this experience in South Korea and we hope you do too!

Hanok has been built for more than two thousand years, not since 14th century. Since 14th century, Chosun dynasty ruled Korea, but even before that, many Korean kingdoms used them. You can see the more than 1000 years old beautiful ones in other areas.

@6:53 You got it right! Korea used Chinese characters just like the UK uses Roman/greek-derived alphabet. However, about 600 years ago, a king thought "dang, this characters are too hard to learn," so he invented an alphabet system by himself.

@@2Passports1Dream The Korean alphabet, Hangul, is very easy to learn, and once you do, you can pronounce any Korean word you see. Much simpler than Chinese. Now, understanding the language, that takes longer. 😉

Wow, you guys look amazing in Hanbok! I hope you two enjoyed traveling in Korea:) BTW, it is proper to tie a knot on the front when wearing a Hanbok skirt. Here is some tips:) It's better not to tie a knot for hanbok skirt straps. If you tie a knot, the knot on the jacket can stand out. Twist the hanbok skirt string 2-3 times and push the long string to the right and the short string to the left.

The writing you are looking at is actually chinese characters used phonetically to make korean words. it would not make sense to a chinese person en masse, but character by character would be legible. Korea used chinese characters in this way until the 1600s when one of the greatest kings developed the korean script/alphabet. only the very wealthy and educated could afford to learn chinese characters, an alphabet was accessible to all!

At 6.55, Adriana was very sharp to point out that the words / writing do not look like Korean. These are actually Chinese words / writing. Just as in Japan, Korea also borrowed alot from China, including the writing system. Classical texts are still written in Chinese, not Korean. In fact, Chinese words make up about 60+% of Korean vocabulary. The Chinese words / writing are known as hanzi (in Chinese), hanja (in Korean) and kanji (in Japanese). Until this day, Chinese words / writing are still being used in Korea and Japan in one way or another.

@@xiaominhou690 Of course, ancient Chinese history was busy losing more than dozens of battles to Goguryeo or Balhae, causing enormous victims, and in the Middle Ages and modern times, it was ruled by Mongol empire and Manchurians for hundreds of years.
