Why wouldn't you use your sling to carry the fish to your cradle instead of just your net, not very good fish care. Just saying, looks like a nice venue.

Most of the time, I do mate but I'll be honest it's not always 100% necessary. There is a lot of media hype around these things and I can see why but I have never once damaged a fish carrying it in the net. The main thing is to check the fins and make sure the tail is straight.

It's certainly seen better days 🤣 there are a lot of lovely looking fish in the lake though. Sometimes, this kind of deformation can be from old spawning injuries so not necessarily from bad angling.
