You can always take the easy route to understand special relativity. Even if you are said to be the dumbest person in all your classes, and perhaps you have had a nasty head injury in the past to account for all this, and in turn you end up dropping out of school altogether, it is still an easy breezy task for you to discover the Special Relativity(SR) phenomena on your own, and at the same time come up with a brand new way of deriving the SR mathematical equations. However, if you are at the top of the class, it will be a whole lot more difficult, due to you being trained to have a one track way of thinking.
