You can make those tight fitting nuts almost captive in 3D printed parts by heating the nuts up and then pushing the heated up nuts into the plastic. I have used a soldering Iron but I find using the gas stove top works better. Best one doesn't grab the nuts with ones fingers ......

That really is a nice laser module and very clever setup with magnetic mounting. I'm still just dipping my toe into laser engraving with my cheap Chinese thing but it's good to watch your progress! Cheese: can't ever have enough of it. The weather: well, it's typically British! Birch ply: still haven't found a legitimate reason to buy it and with the rate it's going up in price I'm not likely to find a reason any time soon.

Opt lasers are more expensive but they look very well engineered. I have a budget laser and the focusing/lense has never been great. Raster 2 gcode inkscape extension by 305engineering and jtechs extension works well.

I'm impressed with them. I've been playing around with the Jtech extension for DXF cuts. It took a while to get it working and then I noticed my laser and VFD signal were not the same. Think I need to make an update video on making sure the controller is set up for both. Also need to change the base frequency for the laser in the firmware.

I use a decent PTZ cctv cam to monitor mine without looking at it directly. It can free me from being right next to my machines if the job is safe enough to leave unattended! It's interesting to see that Orange tinted glasses that came with the Laser Head. They're invariably Green and that module looks in the 450nm wavelength region? I must check prices on this

Is there any way to check if your eyewear is actually effective? I'm not sure I trust the ones that were shipped with my laser/cnc machine.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/e16WppuqbrF0nq8 well this is how you check the laser wave length and then I guess you buy a legit pair based on the outcome- or you shine the laser through the glasses and see what comes out the other side? But you'll need another pair of glasses to check. Or a camera to review the footage so you don't have to look at the laser.

Can it engrave on metal?

Hi, did you find a way to disable the fan without a custom switch, and did you talked with the guys at OptLaser's about this? And why two switches, and not only that of the power supply? Thanks!
@EducatingSavvas6 жыл бұрын
One switch is for the power and the other is for the signal. It means I have to flick two switches for the laser to work so maybe it's safer to set up.

Can you add some failsafe thingy into grbl EPROM to default the laser mode off? I haven't looked into this area at all so the answer may well be nope. And what was that software you mentioned?
@EducatingSavvas6 жыл бұрын
Ryan MCR_CNC I'll have to have a look. Never edited the Eeprom before. Would prefer it if the gcode generator has a star and end script editor. I was talking about LaserGRBL. It looks good for image rasters.

Just linked the software in the description.

Right, you can buy a 30W fiber coupled laser diode on eBay for like $100.
@EducatingSavvas6 жыл бұрын
I know it's pricey for the hobby market, but the cheaper the laser the more scary it is.

Educating Savvas you are right. Thanks for all your videos btw, very entertaining and I learned a lot from you! My machine is almost ready, you are very inspirational.
