25/9/2024 131 LP school teachers & 189 ME school teachers of K/A cries for their salary

#DIPHU: At a time when the State cabinet has taken a decision to regularise the posts of 131 LP school teachers of Karbi Anglong, the 189 ME school teachers of the district have questioned the state government as to why they are being left out in the cabinet decision for regularisation process.
The 189 ME school teachers have expressed their displeasure for the indifferent attitude shown towards them by the State government and have made a fervent appeal to the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma to take up the matter in the next cabinet meeting for regularisation of the posts.
Expressing their displeasure before the media here at Diphu Govt. Boys HS school playground, where the aggrieved teachers have assembled and one among them Anita Rongpipi said, “It was on April 15, 2022, our Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma had himself handed the appointment letters to us. For the first 6 months we received provisional salaries and after that no salaries were given to us. It is now 25 months since we have not received our salaries.”
Due to such challenges the teachers are compelled to come out on the streets to express their grievances, Rongpipi stated and said that it is not known why the matter is still pending, but every time the teachers approach the concerned officer they say things will be settled very soon. She said, “Yesterday in the State cabinet meeting passed a resolution for regularisation of 131 posts of LP teachers. We fervently appealed to our chief minister to take up the matter in the next cabinet meeting for approval of the posts when it is held.”
Joining with her is another teacher Rumi Kropi, where she explained that the teachers have endured much hardship. Many teachers have to maintain their families as well as attend to schools amidst not getting salaries. The 189 teachers have now lost all patience for not receiving their dues and went to the extent of class boycott. This boycott call cannot be immediately withdrawn until and unless their grievances are made, she said.
“Through this media platform we want to appeal to our Chief Minister as to when will the problem of 189 ME teachers be solved,” Kropi stated and expressed that it was on April 15, 2022 that the Chief Minister himself had come here at Diphu Govt. Boys HS school playground to hand over the appointment letters to the 189 teachers. After receiving the appointment letters the teachers have been honestly discharging their duties of going to school regularly. But it was quite surprising that yesterday in the State cabinet meeting decided to regularise the posts of 131 LP school teachers, while for 189 ME school teachers were being left out, she said.
Kropi said, “We teachers were very much hopeful of getting any positive development from yesterday’s cabinet meeting, but sadly that did not happen. Why it did not pass and why it has happened like this. That we did not know.”
She also explained that the 189 ME school teachers have gone through much hardship as many have to stay in rented houses to attend schools. Some teachers have to leave their families 60 k.m. to 180 k.m. away from home in order to perform their duty, while there are few teachers who can’t afford medical expenses when ill. The teachers don’t want to take risks on the future life of children, but they are compelled to take up such drastic steps of class boycotting because of deprivation of their dues, she expressed.
