Did I miss something? What slip? How do you make the black slip and silicate mixture? I watched this video three times and did not see how you achieved the black slip that you added to make the texture.???

Hi there, I don’t think I showed how the mixture was made in this video. I only showed applying the mixture, shaping the pot and the resulting cracks that it creates. If you are interested in making the mixture, make a thickish slip (cake batter consistency) and add some silicate to it - add a little by little for your desired consistency. If it’s too thick you can just add some more slip to it. Hope this helps…😀

Beautiful. How much sodium silicate did you add to your slip?

Thank you. Unfortunately I do not measure. Add a little bit at a time. You will see that the consistency of your slip will change straight away. So if you want the slip to be thicker add more sodium silicate and vice versa.

Hi I am an artist and trying to make my own texture that can give me cracks. Can tile adhesive be mixed with sodium silicate in order to get cracks. Would be very grateful for all replies.

Hi Vera, my apologies for the very late response! I’ve recently relocated to another country and haven’t spent much time on my channel. When you mix the sodium silicate to the clay, you have to stretch out the pot to form the cracks. If you will be able to stretch out the piece that you will put this on, I do not see why you would not be able to mix with tile adhesive to obtain similar results.

I do slip with Sodium silicate. Easy process. You just apply sodium silicate over the slip and Expand clay bowl (inside out) at same time apply heat. The slip will crack. Done.

Hi Mia, indeed it’s an easy process 😃. You just end up with a different finish/look depending on the application. So I guess it comes down to the look that you are going for 😁
