Hey Guy and Betty-Lou, I found your video to be very motivating for me to winter camp. I am from Vermont, USA, and have winter camped only once, but am planning to get out often this winter. My life has been adventurous from the time I was a teenager. At 61 years young, I backpacked around Alaska from Anchorage North to Denali, and south to Homer on the coast, had many grizzly encounters fishing for salmon, and got attacked by a nursing moose. Also hiked the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail from Massachusetts North almost to the Canadian border, living in the woods for 2.5 month at 64 years old, but am slowing down a bit now at 73. I have also solo travelled to Costa Rica a few years ago (and got lost in the jungle), and in my 20's lived in the woods in Bern, Switzerland, and travelled throughout Europe covering six countries. I am telling you this not to brag, but to say how much I appreciate living most of my adventures through videos like yours. (However, I do want to go back to Costa Rica to volunteer counting sea turtles and jaguars). But for the present I will continue to canoe, hike and camp in the forests of Vermont. We have a mutual love for the outdoors and the extraordinary wildlife encountered along the way. Keep up the good work! Scottie PS My four children and five grandchildren think that I am looney for living the life I choose (but I certainly have no regrets). I am also sorry to hear about Clifford.
@CanoeTheNorth3 жыл бұрын
Hi Scottie. You're living life the same way I plan to. I hope when I reach your age Im still able to do half of what you are up to. Very Inspirational, living with no regrets and getting out to do what you love to do! Thanks for sharing part of your story. Lets all hope that Cilfford is back out camping soon!

I was about to leave a reply, when I realized I already left one two years ago. I’m 75 now and living in Vermont at the very top of Putney mountain. I’m going to keep living my dream to the extent I can. I like your attitude, and will continue to follow your paths. Namaste Scottie

I am in Southern Ontario. If my French and German was better I could post in those but it will be English. You should bring a small thermometer with you. Sleeping like that...the way you did it reminds me of Les Stroud in Temagami. He survived one week in -40C weather....the whole week. After I watched him do that...well he is the all time greatest survivalist on film. One nite in the cold is tough enough...let alone one week. When you did this video...were you near Estaire, Alban or around the French River? The hens looked so SWISS CHALET.

Hi Stuart. They tasted incredible as well. I think it probably took around 2 hrs or so. They were almost completely frozen when I put them on though so that definitely slows things down!

Hallo. Bedankt voor de vriendelijke woorden. Blij dat je van de video hebt genoten. Is het kampeerverbod gerelateerd aan covid? Als dat zo is, hoop ik dat jullie snel uit kunnen gaan. Al het beste!

Watching from Australia and wonder in what part of Canada you are posting footage of your overnight camp. We lived in Canada for a year and experienced an occasion of minus 40. Very very very cold.

Hi Elizabeth. That must have been quite the shock to the system coming from such a hot country! -40 is cold for sure. I’m in Ontario. Hope all is well in Australia 🇦🇺.

Yes it was an amazing experience. My husband family and l lived in BC Rockies. We found the locals thought 32 degrees was very hot. Ha. However when the freezing weather blew in we were the ones shocked. Brrrr.

Thanks very much Luis. Where abouts are you located? I’ve acquired outdoor gear from so many different spots it’s hard to remember them all. Sometimes I’ve got some good deals on used items. If there are specific pieces of gear your interested in let me know and I can try and let you know what I’m using and where you can get it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hey Luis. So if you are in the U.S. you in good shape. I would start with REI if there is one around you. We have a store in Canada called MEC and they are very similar stores. They will offer a lot of gear I use in that video for sure. Hopefully that helps a little Luis. Let me know if you want any more info!

@CanoeTheNorth3 жыл бұрын
Hi Geeta. I want to assure you that Betty Lou is very well fed. We always feed her twice a day, plus on camping trips she sometimes gets lucky with leftovers! I believe in some of our other videos we show the dogs being fed (even fresh caught fish)! Thanks for the comment Geeta.

...I wish I would have bought a 4x8 piece of carbon felt when I had the chance. A piece of Styrofoam SM to lie on and the carbon felt to save my spendy clothing and bag from flying campfire embers are about all I need to get. If you have lots of easy wood, make two fires and sleep between them...
@CanoeTheNorth3 жыл бұрын
Thats a really good idea with the carbon felt. I have been thinking about what to use to be able to sleep closer to the fire as I feel the same as you.....I really don't want 100 holes in my sleeping setup. Thanks for the idea Feldwebel! Also like the 2 fire setup. Sounds really warm!

@CanoeTheNorth3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary. I can definitely appreciate your concern. We love our pups way too much to let them suffer. We are always monitoring them to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible, wether that means stopping to let them swim in the heat of summer or wrapping them in a sleeping bag in the winter. Our dogs health comes before basically everything else. Hope this helps possibly alleviate some concerns.

A "polar vortex" Is a catch phrase the media started to use to make people nervous, and therefore watch more often. It also sounds very global warmingish. The scarf? Who would complain about a scarf, except someone who doesn’t live in the cold? My only complaint is that it looked like a super cheapy polyester "gilry" scarf. Wool is your friend in the cold. Down is wonderful, but wool is better. And please be careful with the dog. If she gets wrestles during the night, ends up half outside her little sleeping bag, you could have a dead dog in the morning. You never know what they can get up to when your asleep. Oh, and the potato? Wrap it well, and put that sucker right into the coals. You’ll end up with a hard, burned outside that acts like a bowl. Cut in half, and smush some butter into it….you won’t be sorry. 🙂 As for the language, I’m from Quebec, so I could write in French, but my family is Irish decent, so you’re stuck with English 😀
@CanoeTheNorth3 жыл бұрын
Haha....my mom made that scarf and its 100% wool. lol. I won't tell her though. Betty Lou sleeps under my sleeping bag as well and believe me......if she's not comfortable she has no problem letting me know. Her safety always comes first. Cant wait to make another baked potato! Hope all is well in la belle province.
@jimf19643 жыл бұрын
@@CanoeTheNorth really!? Sorry for slagging it then. It just looks almost exactly like one a friend has, but I’m sure in person it looks better than on camera, and half inside your jacket. If it’s wool, it must be a hell of a warm one…….oh, and don’t tell your mom what I said! 😊

Hey John. Betty Lou is a outdoor working dog with a double coat. When she’s working hiking through the deep snow she’s panting and hot just like we would be and when she is resting I make sure she’s covered up and always has a warm place to lay down if she chooses. We always try our hardest to make sure every part of the trip is as easy on the dogs as possible. Thanks for the comment.
