Aldrin told Armstrong just before his exit, and I'm paraphrasing, "If you had any balls, you would say OH MY GOD! WHAT IS THAT THING? and cut off your mic", but he said his famous line.

The Apollo 11 lander was on the moon hours before "One small step." Most notably, and I'm not sure which man said it but I believe it was Armstrong, came the words "Houston. Tranquility base here. The Eagle has landed."

When I was seven, I would go out every night and watch for Sputnik. It was something to see!
@kathywiseley4382
@kathywiseley4382 9 күн бұрын
I was thinking about that as we watched it. It was a huge big deal to go outside and lay back and watch Sputnik go over. John Glenn went into space on February 20th, 1962. I easily remember that date because it was my eighth birthday and I thought it was a big deal. In grade school, we were allowed to be late to school on days that NASA sent spaceships up so we could watch it. And remember gathering around the TV set with your whole family to watch the moon landing? Thanks, Mike! This brought back a lot of good memories.

Aldrin's "Contact Light" was followed by Armstrong, saying "Houston, Tranquility Base. The Eagle has landed." It wasn't till another couple of hours before Armstrong and Aldrin stepped out of the LM and went down the ladder and on to the moon.

7:00 A tidbit yet too little known: After descending the ladder, Armstrong said, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Less than perfect seemed to drop the word "a" and for decades people were confused with the quote but 21st century computer audio analysis and enhancement confirmed the correct statement.

Those famous words " One small step ...." Was said as Buzz was about to walk on the moon, he was outside about to step onto the moon. So I don't think anyone though those were the first words spoken The info is great, maybe written differently, might help.

11:17 -- Actually, the first US Spacecraft to crash into the Moon was Ranger 4 in 1962--about 3 years after Luna 2. That said, Ranger 4 is considered a failure. The first US spacecraft to "successfully " crash into the Moon was Ranger 7 in 1964.

Buzz Aldrin is the only Apollo 11 astronaut who is still alive. I'm not surprised Playtex made the Moon suits, as I have used their bras, they are amongst the best brands. Neil Armstrong was also a test pilot.

you forgot the fact that Yuri Gagarin's Soviet space wings and Majors insignia and His photo were also left on the moon by apollo 11. According to my cousin Neal, he left them in the camera bay of the decent stage as a final tribute to a true pioneer. I thought you would like to know.
