Here's a couple of my picks that no one asked for: Castles of Burgundy: really dry theme and artwork, but amazing game that's really addictive. Buy tiles to put in your kingdom and they let you do various actions. mostly help to lay more tiles. Everdell: Cute forest critters building a society. Basically just worker placement, card playing and resource management but drips with theme. It even has a giant cardboard tree.

A few recommendations for two-players that no one asked for (which honestly you'll probably see on a lot of recommended lists): 1) Star Realms - fast deckbuilding game with space/starship theme. Easy to teach, easy to learn, and teaches the basics of deck-building. 2) 7 Wonders Duel - "Civilization" building game where you accumulate victory points based on science, military, etc. I've introduced this game to some people who have gotten hopelessly addicted to it. 3) Air, Land- & Sea - Extremely fast military-themed game where you are trying to win at least two out of three "theaters of war". EXTREMELY easy to teach and learn, but also lends itself to some mind games and meta-strategy. Aka simple game with room for complex strategy. 4) Onitama - chess-like game where you're either trying to capture the opposing side's master or get your master to the other side of the board. Movement based on cards set at the beginning of the game and constantly cycle throughout the game. Very thinky but fun.

Hey! For anyone who likes digital board games, I work for Handelabra Games and we made digital versions of One Deck Dungeon, Aeons End, Sentinels of the Multiverse, and Spirit Island! I love 7 Wonders: Duel. Anyone who has played 7 Wonders can attest to it’s great gameplay, and this is the version made specifically for 2 players. Your goal is to get as many points as possible by doing a variety of tasks that add up at the end of a game, like furthering your army, building a 7 wonder, better scientific research, most money, etc. It’s hard to see who’s winning as you play but you’re trying to get more than the other still. Then there’s also always the possibility of someone winning by trumping the other: fully defeating with their army or fully defeating by increasing scientific research. It’s way more fun than it sounds to play, I promise

Missing, for me: - Schotten Totten, great little fun 2-player-only game - Ethnos. Very versatile game up to 6 players. Works surprisingly well with two players and every game plays out differently. Also surprisingly un-complex for the amount of stuff it has. - Pandemic Legacy. Maybe the most engaging board game out there. A campaign game with one game representing one month in a year. Played season one with my wife and we had a blast. Somewhat complex but mainly heavy on the thinking, as every move can have major consequences for both the game and the whole campaign.

@adumba37094 жыл бұрын
Is pandemic legacy different from normal pandemic
@McRusen4 жыл бұрын
@@adumba3709 Yes, it totally is. It's the same principle but you have missions to complete every session, your characters can "level up" with special perks, some damage and progress carries over to the next session, more buildings, character types and actions are introduced etc. - Long story short: It's a campaign. You play multiple sessions (1-2 for every "game month", so 12-24 sessions in total), some progress carries over and the game itself as well as the mission objectives get more complex every game month. :) What needs saying as well: You can play the total of the game exactly one time. Without A LOT of work during the actual playthrough, it can't be played as a campaign a second time - but at least the first one can be played as a normal Pandemic game, as long as you ignore the modifications made to the game board. :D

I can attest to Codenames, Specter Ops, Pandemic, Scythe, and Root being fantastic. Root and Specter Ops are really popular for my siblings and I, including honorary siblings and sisters-in-law. I can't say I've even been so stressed playing a board game as I have as the Agent doing an infiltration op in Specter Ops. It feels like a very unique experience with how legitimately terrified you become as you try to complete objectives without being found out by the Hunters, hot on your tail almost constantly as they try to anticipate your hidden movements. Root is a forest territory game with animal factions that feels fun with a bunch of players, even if you don't win. Sometimes it's really enjoyable to merely help other players or just perform your factions tasks to act as a branch of an ecosystem. It's very charming and there's plenty of victory conditions, overall.

Here are some of mine: Exactly 2: Onitama (Sensei's Path is a must, Way of the Wind less so but still great) - You have five pieces, a sensei and four students. Either get your sensei to the opponent's sensei's starting spot or capture the other sensei. Each player has two cards, and one is in the middle. You play your card, move any of your pieces to a valid spot on that card, then trade that card for the one in the middle. There's also a free app on Google Play. Air, Land, and Sea - WWII theme. There is an 18 card deck, six each of Air, Land, and Sea vehicles/soldiers. Each player gets six cards, then one player gets a player order card. On your turn you can play a card to a matching combat theater, play a card face down in any theater, or retreat, giving your opponent a portion of the points of the round. The trick is to mitigate your losses and learn how to use the card abilities to manipulate the side your cards are on. This is how you get battleships and tanks in the air. Star Realms: As weird as it sounds, the base game is very technically only a 2 player game, and the way you expand it is by getting a second copy. Very basic, but effective, deck builder where you're directly attacking your opponent's "authority." Has some great expansions. Crystal Clans: A great area control/squad management game that has a unique "initiative" turn system. You basically wager turn length to summon bigger cards and do bigger attacks. Great with 2 Pipeline: Rebuild a government's horribly inefficient oil pipelines and make as much money as possible in the process. Exceptionally heavy, but very pretty. Spirit Island: Anti-Catan. Invaders are colonizing your island and you need to scare them off by rousing the natives into fighting and using your powers before the island is totally blighted and colonized. Oceans: A spinoff of Evolution. Make fish and evolve them into better fish. Has a lot of MtG influence. Near and Far: A gorgeous storybook game with an atlas of missions. Plays kind of like a racing game, and a bit of a point salad with a campaign. Excellent art and compelling writing, and even has an arcade mode so if you just want to pick up and play a game. Thunderstone Quest: Diablo but a deck builder. On your turn you either go to town and upgrade your deck and heal or go to the dungeon to fight monsters. Kind of an oddity in that the retail edition is missing a LOT of content compared to the kickstarter, but worth tracking down the complete set. Thanks for wading through this massive comment. Hopefully you found something you'd wanna play.

I am an enthusiast for the popular 2-player game Blood Bowl. It's a game of American football, except it's anarchy, meaning that there are no "downs" and the goal is just to grab the ball and get it to the end zone. The twist is that it's fantasy, and you can play as elves, orcs, goblins, and a bunch of really flavorful races. You can run a team in a league and level up your players as they gain experience from matches. You can also suffer permanent injuries and deaths to your players. It's very violent and epic. No game of Blood Bowl is the same, and this is a game that I highly recommend getting into. It's not that beefy to learn the basic rules, actually, but it gets slightly beefier as you get into league play and coaching a long-term league. It's easy to understand once you get the hang of it, though - great game!

I'd add these: 2-player only - Jaipur Set collection, where you're trying to gather sets of goods to get tokens. Additionally, you're trying to balance sets of 3, 4, or 5 which result in more points with getting set tokens which reduce in value as they get eaten up. 2-player only - Mandala Abstract set game, where you place one of 5 colors into a shared area (and draw more cards) or into a personal area on two battlefields (Mandalas). Colors can only appear once, and then the Mandala is destroyed after being completed taking from the shared space based on each players private area. The first card of each color taken is placed in a score area, which dictates color value (for instance, yellow may become worth 1 to one player and 5 to the other). Other cards go into a cup area hidden from your opponent. Plays quickly, but it's about blocking colors and timing. Great game for two. 2 or more - Concordia Thematically lacking, but mechanically elegant. As houses of Rome, you must expand and build production houses throughout areas of Rome. Actions are performed by various personalities, and over time you'll expand to include more personalities. You'll then score from those same personality cards for performing certain actions (For instance, one might be getting more and more colonists to expand and focusing on Mars personality cards for endgame, which give you points for each colonist per card). The game feels light but tense the whole way through.

Odin's Ravens - A pretty light racing game where you use Loki's trick cards to give you a leg-up or to use against your opponent. Fugitive - A portable hidden movement game where one player is the agent and the other the fugitive. Lost Cities - Laying down cards to go on expeditions, but you want to make sure you have enough. Scoring is a little mathy, but there's a good app out there. As for solo to 4 players, I'd add the new Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion for a dungeon crawler with a neat card initiative system. While I could list many more, this stands out to me because it's a new and lighter version of Gloomhaven that sets up very quickly and contains 25 scenarios. You're basically setting up a RPG video game on your table with the first 5 scenarios even being the tutorial, of sorts.

my 2 player recommendations are: -shards of infinity: deckbuilding game that i consider extremly fun and quick(20 min per game) -hero realms: similar to the above but less chaotic, more strategic and even easier to learn -greedy kindoms: rock, paper , scissors with cards and great production. Easy to learn with alot of depth for all ages. Eccentially 1 player plays 3 out of 10 cards per turn to gain recourses and the other player does the same in order to stop the first from activating his cards -tiny epic galaxies: backgammon but very advanced/heavier and meaty with a cool space theme -fields of green: a card drafting, tableau building with a great farming theme. great for advanced couples that want something to play for 1-2 hours

Another good board game that works with up to 4 players but is great with two is a game called Kingdomino. So basically each player is the king of a kingdom and is trying to get land matching land tiles to get points. The land tiles are divided like dominos, for example one card might be half grassland and half forest or half mine and half swamp. Certain land tiles have crowns on them which are what allows you to score for certain land, and the more of the same type of land you get next to each other with more crowns, the more points you get. Another cool mechanic is that turn order is not set in stone, four land tiles are played out and you take turns selecting tiles to place in your board, if you select a less powerful tile, you get to go earlier next round and if you select a higher scoring tile, you’ll have to go later next turn. It’s a fun game and it isn’t that difficult to learn, and I would recommend it.

One of my and my gf's favorite games right now is Crimson Company. It's a "pure" two player game (although you can play it with more people if you have several copies) where the goal is to capture two out of three castles using mercenaries that you bid on. If an opponent matches your bid, you get the money back, plus what the opponent matched a cash advantage can quickly reverse. The other interesting gameplay element is that all cards have effects that can trigger and must happen, even if they're bad for you. (E.g. kill any card in this lane that is weaker than this card can very well result in you having to kill your own card)

I recommend: Castles of Mad King Ludwig It's a fun "building game" where you compete for resources with an opponent and race to the victory condition. You can play with up to 5 players, but 2 is just fine. I had so much fun with the pieces, I just sat and played with the pieces outside of a game just to build the ultimate castle. There's even a 1-player mode!

Highly recommend Carcassonne: The Castle as a two player (only) game! It's fairly light but pretty fun and does require some strategy. The gameplay is basically that you're using randomly drawn tiles to build a city within the walls to get points. I've found you can make it into a 3-4 player game too if you have some spare pieces (I use Risk armies but any meeple does it).

A few I would recommend for 2 players that weren't mentioned: Railroad Ink (players: 1-6 but with infinite scaling if you print more boards) - Roll & Write - Players map out a system of railroads and highways using custom dice, and everyone uses the same roll at the same time. Very interesting to compare networks at the end, and has infinite replayability as well. Welcome To... (players: 1-100, again, infinitely scalable) - Roll(kinda) & Write - Players are in charge of designing neighborhoods set in the 1950s, where players will flip 3 piles of double-sided cards to choose both a numbered house to put on a street AND an ability that will gain you more points. Half of the game is planning ahead, but also in determining when to finish the game, as points can be gathered faster than you anticipate. Fox in the Forest (players: 2 only) - Trick Taking (best card wins) - The premise of this one doesn't really matter, but players will take turns playing cards in one of three suits, numbered 1-11, and the winner of one round gets to start the next. The goal is to win rounds, but not TOO many, as an overwhelming victory will mean the opponent will garner ALL the points for the round. Super easy, super light, inexpensive, and learning it is almost inherent. Cribbage (players: 2, with variant for 3 and a team mode for 4) - Classic Card Game - Players attempt to gain points by combining cards in their hands in certain ways, and also combining cards that their opponents play at the same time. Seems way more intimidating than it is, as all you need to do is some basic mental addition with some basic knowledge of poker terms like straights and flushes. 80% luck and 20% knowing what to do with what you get.

I know you need more than two people to play this but you should review Blood Rage. It’s a fun game where you play as a Viking clan. You go through a deck building face in the beginning and then use figures to try and take over areas. You gain resources like rage, honor, and glory which helps you get points. It’s one of my favorites.

Trains is such a great game for all numbers (it's 2-4). It plays really well with two players, especially if you have either of the expansions. It's a deck building game with board mechanics where you lay rails, build stations on cities, and get into remote locations for extra victory points. The cards are very important, but the board is just as important. The themeing and art is fun. It has a much more corporate feel than other train games though, as you feel a lot more like an actual manager of a railway. It's almost entirely centered in Japan, so if you're into Japan it makes it that extra little bit interesting as it has actual locations from Japan. The cards vary quite a bit, but a lot revolve around currency in some way. It has a randomizer deck, so each time you play it you get a different store, and the strategy changes a ton. Definitely worth picking up!

Glad you included Ascension in the 2 or more category and not the 2 but also solo category. There is a solitaire variant that's included in the official rules, but it doesn't really work that well. I've seen some others on BGG try to come up with better solitaire rules, but I've never found them to be that fun. 2 players is best.

Too Many Bones is great for dice chucking and for challenge. Cloudspire is great as an army game that uses very few dice. It incorporates both the MOBA and the tower defense mechanics for a really fun game. And it provides solo campaigns, coop campaigns, and a 2-4 player versus mode.
