Just a small correction here, Greek refugees did not come back to their native country, their ancestors had been living in what is today Turkey for 2500 years up until 1920's. So they left their ancestral places to come to Greece as refugees. They were ethnic Greeks but modern Greek state was not their native country. Considering that a 5 million Greece at the time had to absorb 1.5 million refugees overnight, you can understand that their influence in mainland Greek culture was massive. Bougatsa is one of thousands of these influences.

Greek person here... I would like to applaud your pronunciation... You did a pretty great job! Just two things... Dolmades are not only made with vine leaves, they can also be made with cabbage leaves, or onions. Also keftedes come in an array of types made for example with courgette, tomato, onion, kaseri (a type of cheese) and the list goes on... I hope you enjoy your stay and you visit other places of our country and not just the capital.

Non Greek person here, bit I made a point of learning some basic Greek because I love your country. I noticed that some of the stressed syllables were a bit off. Would you agree that Greeks find it difficult to understand non-native speakers if the place the emphasis on the wrong syllables? glyKO, not GLYko. Luckily you are kind enough to place an accent above the stressed syllable. (Unless the word is in upper case.)
@dimitrabir.4177

@@DrDaveW I think most of the times we know what to expect from a non native speaker (like the "r" not rolling and the "g" pronounced as γκ and not γ and of course the stressed syllables to be off) so we understand what they say. The pronunciation must be reeeeeeally of for us to not understand. We know our language is hard and we are flexible lol.

Just recently traveled to Athens and Kreta Island. Oh mannn! I am amazed by the beauty of that country. Greek food is a mixture of the Middle East, very flavorful and creamy. There’s a pastry stores in every corner streets and coffee shops. To greek, that’s breakfast for them. And I’m very surprised that a lot of Greek smoke, even as young as 14 years old 😳.

you are soooo wrong saying that souvlaki and other foods/deserts (like bougatsa pastry or koulouri) are ottoman dishes. ottomans (and not Turks-yes there is a difference) were nomads and had little to nearly none cuisine culture because of their way of life. ottomans took (stole but ok) all the byzantine cuisine (food and deserts) when they conquired Konstantinoupolis in 1453. so next time be careful when you are refering to such issues especially when you may be wrong !

I'm sorry but when you talk about influences in Greece, before you mention Ottomans or Romans, you have to mention what influence the Byzantines and Alexander the Great had on the world before them.

12,000 years The Greeks were living before the word " Romans " came around without any passages or texts --- plagiarisms taken from the Greeks ; and now...your yapping snapping mouth word salad.

You mean that the most of the Greek food are from the Othman empire? I think that you sould know that before this Turkish empire it was the Byzantine empire that it was for about 1200 years! And this founds was Greek foods that was stolen from us! Before any videos make a research first!

You just need to look at the etymological roots of food names. You can see that your so-called Greek cuisine consists of 90% Turkish dishes.

@@giannispsichountakis6073 Do you think that food belongs to the Greeks when written in the Greek alphabet? What a logic 😏 For example, “dolma” means stuffed in Turkish, baklava, yoghurt, tzatziki and this list goes on. Now accept the facts or sit down and cry.

@@erdemozcan5435Turks were nomads from central asia they didn't have their own cuisine, they just took the foods from the people they conquered (Byzantines, persians, egyptians etc.) and made them their own.

Omg youre wrong in things in the video. First of all theres no Ottoman or italian anywhere in greek cuisine. Everything the Ottomans know about cuisine its been taken from Byzantine the Arabs and Persia (todays Iran). Dolmades which the proper name is Αμπελοφυλλα γεμιστά which has roots in Ancient Greece. Skewers which are called kalamaki from the Ancient Greece where they would fish with the calami (bamboo) and use little sticks from them to grill fish n lamb and goats. Pork gyros did not exist until 1980. Everything its called souvlaki even the yeero. Pastitsio has nothing to do with lasagna. Greek meatsauce has cinnamon and all spice italians do not these in their bolognese. Koulouri its not Ottoman it goes back in Ancient Greece. Ottomans didnt even had seeds. Youre stuck in Ottoman not realizing that greeks lived in what is modern Turkey 100s of years before ottomans stepped foot in the region. Basic history....
