I know the feeling! Did a property from raw land, just loved looking out the camper windows thinking of the day we would have our home and thinking of where we wanted everything set and facing.

Yaayyy! I must admit I'm a tad jealous! But it's good kind of jealous because it just makes me wish I was closer to where you are at. I am still in the dreaming & saving stage, but I am learning new skills. God bless you guys! Looking forward to seeing your progress! You inspire me to keep going! Blessings!!

Progress! Amazing what opening up the view does! I'm sure that day of work with the dozer will reduce your cost for the pros. You accomplished a lot!

You need the front of the house facing sunrise and the back facing sundown. This will help during the winter to warm the home. Nice deck out the front to relax in the afternoon shade of the home.

Exactly...no porch on the west side... that equals hot hot hot....and too bright for the eyes. I lived in a house like that and I could not enjoy the evenings til the sun went down...when it was in the middle of summer.

That is the way to move some dirt. I need to do that on our big property in Wennimmucca Nv, but the property we will be living on in Yerington Nv is mostly flat. You got a good days of work in, it is looking great.

I know what its like to lose trees you wanted to keep. I once had over 200 dogwood trees on my land and it was even on a couple calendars back in the 80's then for some reason in the late 90's every tree no matter what it was died under 6 inch's. for about 5 miles around mine. never did find out why. I transplanted a few but they never took. so I know how you feel.

You had so many decisions to make. That must have been extremely difficult at times, as basically, most of them you made you would be stuck with forever!! Doubt I could have done it, especially with the amount of thought you put into it!!

If I was that doing that job the biggest problem that I would have is trying to keep my wife and granddaughter away from the bulldozer as anything that can dig or move soil they have to be driving it.

I am not a builder, I know nothing about building But wonder if there would have been any benefit to or if you considered ever building on stilts? It seems I see lots of cabins or homes that are worked into hill sides being built that way in more remote areas. NOT at all questioning what you did, just curious if you did any consideration of this, pros/cons/costs, erosion issues and such.

I've thought about it but I felt that using the hill to insulate my house would be smart

Anybody near you have a small or a portable sawmill? They might be interested in using the maple.. Maybe give you 25% back in lumber? Might make beautiful trimwork for the new house...
