Khorps I can believe that some people enjoy it, I even have a brief go at it myself sometimes, but why you would want to do it in public in a large room that wasn't your own royal court ... no. I can call #2 out as being full of sh*t with an eyewitness account. My grandmother lived in Wisconsin when WotW was broadcast. She vividly recalls the local Sheriff rounding up a posse of armed farmers, and being on the verge of ordering an evacuation before everyone realized it was an entertainment broadcast and not a live news report. I think it's better to say that true mass panic did not occur, but local panics certainly did, and many went unreported as people realized what was really going on, they were humiliated by their own actions, and would rather not admit they got taken for suckers.

Due to timezone differences some regions didn't hear the start of the program.Think about what it was like back then, they weren't as informed as we are now. Some areas came to the program late and some did panic.. I'd imagine they didn't stick around to hear the rest of the program but automatically assumed an invasion was underway and reacted. People still freak out in such a manner today, even though they should know better.. plausible? Definitely.

Our sun is too small to become a black hole.
@rutoop
@rutoop 8 жыл бұрын
A black hole can be any size. What makes it a black hole is its density. Its believed that there may be many micro black holes all over Earth, they are just too small to have any real influence. The only thing that makes black holes dangerous is there gravity, but since gravity is the weakest known force and is exponentially dependent on size and distance to other objects, they have to be huge to pose any danger.
@kandysman86
@kandysman86 8 жыл бұрын
+rutoop black holes are adhoc bullshit. There are no unscientific black holes. It's fucking stupid.
@MrAranton
@MrAranton 8 жыл бұрын
+rutoop in order to compress into the density of a black hole you need a minimum amount of mass that's much larger than the sun or even the entire solar system. But if the sun were replaced by an object massive enough to become a black hole earth would crash into it because Earth is way to slow on its orbit to prevent that.
@kandysman86

+MrAranton you need a very good imagination .That's all you need. Seeing as black holes are stupid, and imaginary.
@MrAranton
@MrAranton 8 жыл бұрын
kandysman86 And you need an injection of facts. Black holes are not imaginary, their existence has been proven by astronomers, there are fifteen of them in our galaxy alone Sagitarius A being the most prominent one. Just look the info up. But I agree, black holes are stupid; they respond to intelligence test the same way stones or loaves of bread do: Not at all, no matter how many and no matter what kind of test you fling at a black hole.

Eric Hall If we're talking about the Christian gods existence then its without question that the characteristics ascribed to that god are illogical, the bible is inaccurate, and that the gospels were forged by people who were not really eye witnesses. So if you want to believe in a non responsive invisible god that's one thing. But to believe in the god of Abraham, the gods of the Hindus, or greeks is just erroneous.

There are legitimate reasons to get a mac but most mac users i've come across think like i earlier described.

Luddmeister I also hate those people and you're right, it is the vast majority who think that way. Anyone who says macs don't get viruses and go faster than windows computers haven't got a clue what they're on about. If it runs code, it can get viruses and operating systems aren't the only thing that makes an impact on performance.

When my brother was alive he had a photographic memory. He could open any book at all even a 300 or 400-page book. He would turn the pages at a speed of about 3 seconds per page. Then you could take the book away from him and turn to any page you chose and ask him to read what was on that page. He could do it verbatim every single time. He insisted he had not memorized the text. He said there were pictures of each page in his mind and he was only reading from the image.

+patentsvnc correction, the first "long-lasting" (a relative term of course)...then the rest of what you said. 3 others previously designed and tested practical incandescent bulbs using materials other than tungsten filaments. It is said (veracity?) Edison tried nearly a thousand different materials, filament patterns, and diameters of the filament before he hit on the final design. THAT would take years to do in a normal research lab with dozens of assistants. And since patents were pending before Edison even began day-1 research on the bulb...Therefore...realistically how long did he make the other patents pending hold-on, until his final patent design was submitted and approved??? How much did he have to bribe his friends in the patent office for those years to not approve the other inventors' patents?

I met a lady at bingo who played 54 cards on paper - 6 sheets with 9 cards printed on each one. She told me she had a photographic memory. She rarely sat at her table, but roamed about the bingo hall talking, visiting, and just plain goofing off. When she had a bingo, she would yell out "Bingo" from some other part of the room. She would then walk over to her table and Immediately point out the winning card and numbers. Never saw or heard anything like that before or since. 54 cards with 24 numbers on each card Equals 1,296 Numbers! She explained to me that she could see the cards in her mind.

Ever notice that 'Blue bloods' refers primarily to the rich and elite? This is most likely the origin of the misconception about blood being blue. At various points in history (most notably occurring mid and post Renaissance era) 'Silverware' was all the rage for those who could afford it. Over time, bits of silver from the platters, utensils, and goblets were ingested. The effects were very much like people who overuse colloidal silver today. They seem not to get sick as easily as other people, and their skin literally began to change to a blue hue. Thus- Blue bloods. Obviously their blood was not literally blue, but it makes sense that this is where the misconception began.
@entropyzero5588
@entropyzero5588 8 жыл бұрын
I always thought this came about during the renaissance, because the beauty standard for the higher-ups was being pale (being tan meant one had to have worked in the fields), so the veins (which, unlike the blood within them, actually are blue) were more easily visible.
@autonomouspublishingincorp8241
@autonomouspublishingincorp8241 8 жыл бұрын
We agree, however the first uses of the term "Blue-blood" that we can find were certainly referring to the rich and powerful. If the term originated from the appearance of vessels through the skin (which is perfectly logical) then the connection to the rich wouldn't make much sense. Good point, however, as your observation is in fact widely believed to be the reason behind the transition to the perception that blood in the body was actually blue, instantly turning red upon contact with the air. There was even a medical journal published as recently as 1926 explaining this exact misconception, and pointing to the appearance of vessels through the skin as evidence for this "fact".

#9 is not totally false, while the sugar rush doesn't exist or is a kind of placebo effect, you still have more energy for a short time after eating sugar. However the effect is stronger with glucose than with normal household sugar, because glucose is the kind of sugar that is also in blood. #7 according to Wikipedia, chameleons sometimes use color change for camouflage. #1 from your statistics, you can calculate that most people in the middle ages died before the age of 21, so it is true that most people in the middle ages died pretty young.

+mbanana23456 The gender wage gap IS a misconception. The study the data comes from is over 20 years old and has been debunked many times over, it combined all jobs with a similar title into one, for example, all jobs with the title "Doctor," pediatrician or neurosurgeon or pathologist are all counted as one job but each gets paid differently. There has not been a factual, unbiased or even close to a real, conclusive study that suggests that Person A is paid more than Person B just becuase of what they look like. The data is always erroneous or put together in ways to make it look like there are gaps and people take it as fact.

The misconception about Einstein's maths grade is that the Swiss grading system uses the same numbers as the German one, but in reverse order. So when he got a "5" or "6" in maths, he scored maximum while at a German school, the same number would be a straight "failed". With Germans being the majority of German speakers worldwide (and German-speaking Swiss [yes, only a fraction of Switzerland uses German as a native language] being a minority, just like Austrians), this misconceptions has found its way from Germany to the Internet, it seems.

Yeah, while we were at disney world, a family was at the pool's edge. The older sister, about 13-ish, dared her 4 year old brother to dive into the 4'10 water. His mother said "are you sure? That's going to be a bit over your head, bud." The sister claimed to have seen him do it before. So, the little boy jumped. Right away, his head broke through the water, so I assumed he was swimming. I personally don't know how to swim, so I don't really know what it's supposed to look like when somebody comes up from the water. His head bobbed down, and his mother immediately jumped in. Everything happened so fast, from literally two feet away, I was not sure about it, until she had brought him out of the pool and he was coughing. I seriously had not idea what drowning looked like. I've only almost drowned once, when I had a fractured tibia and slipped off my walking boot to go into the pool. In the pool, I had fallen off of a floating bed thingy, and fell into the water. I did not float up, I was going to the bottom. My sister had pulled me out then, nobody else even noticed I had fallen, or that I was drowning. So, from that, I had expected him to not come up if he could not swim. If his mother had not jumped in, I probably would not have noticed something was wrong until he had gulped in water or something.

Another bullshit list. Place a chameleon on a dark background and it'll turn dark. On a lighter background it'll turn lighter. While they do indeed communicate by flashing their chin folds, their bodies change color based on their surroundings. There is speculation that it's an emotional response but ask anyone who's spent anytime playing with them as a kid and maybe you'll learn something. Also, yes there were people as far back as Aristotle and further who believed based on observation that the earth was round. The consensus though was that it was flat. This was the more popular position up until Columbus thought he circled the world. He hadn't, but his theory was already established and verified before his error was discovered.

The only thing that shows that the Greeks thought that the earth was flat is from Homer (Achilles shield), which is a poem of around 12bc? The many 3d representations, like the statues, show a globe, for example Atlas holding a globe in his shoulders. Since Pythagoras at 6th century b.c. suggested it, people generally accepted the idea, and in 3rd century became a canon with many people like Aristotle or Hipparchus add more data, to the point that Ptolemy, and later with great accuracy Eratosthenes, were even able to calculate the circumference of the Earth. And then came christianity.......

Christianity liked the Geocentric system and the flat earth, and persecuted every scientific opposition. The "Holy Inquisition" was not a rock band..... Greeks had already invented the first calculator (Antikythera Mechanism), Hippocrates was advancing medicine, Dimokritus was speaking about the atoms and...... ... and then came Christianity and banned all these....... pagan nonsense. It's as simple as that..... Sorry

Columbus did not sail out to proof the earth was spherical. He sailed out because he believed the circumference of the earth was a lot smaller than scholars calculated (and they were very accurate), and therefore believed he could establish a direct trade route to India over the sea. If he wasn't so lucky that there was an entire continent on his way, he would've never gotten to Asia alive. He and his crew were already starving because of his stupidity when they reached America. Your belief that medieval people thought the earth was flat has its source in propaganda from a few centuries after the middle ages. Also, it was not until the reformation that Christianity (and the Catholic church in particular) would be burning knowledge. During the middle-ages they were the ones who actually did scientific research, and kept many of the sources from the Greeks and especially Romans alive.

While the extent of sugar rushes might be placebo, im pretty sure on a less exaggerated scale it is true... listen sugar and candy have simple carbohydrates like mono and disaccharides which are easy to break down, since carbs are a source of energy and these sugars are simple, your body breaks them down quickly giving you short term energy, thats why those simple sugars in candy don't give lasting energy on the other hand, complex sugars like starches and other polysaccharides give longer term energy because it takes longer to break down, many foods have a combination of simple and complex sugars so you get both the short and long term benefit... I might be mistaken though

Care to guess how the message is colored, I mean coded?

You seem to be implying that your anoles are chameleons

Yeah, I guess I am. Perhaps that comes from a common misconception: Are all lizards that can change color considered chameleons? If so, then my Anoles are definitely Chameleons.
