My favourite part of this video is when you said “When you come to Kiribati, you have to come with zero expectations. Zero expectations for luxury and for pampering. If you want any of that, Fiji is directly south.” And thats how it was when I went to visit my relatives in Kiribati earlier in February 2020. My relatives in Kiribati were worried because they thought I wouldnt want to stay with them because of the way they live but I was more than happy to be with them and experience their way of life. I was fortunate enough to make my way to North Tarawa to visit my other relatives which by surprise they built me my own buia for me to stay in during my stay in North Tarawa. But I see you are way luckier since you’ve been to the outer islands like Butaritari and Abaiang. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Kiribati and I hope to go back one day. I really enjoy watching your vlogs of Kiribati because it makes me miss my family and the memories I made in Kiribati 💙

Aloha/mauri good friend! This comment made my day for sure! I found I-Kiribati to be timid and of course hoping the best for I-matang even if everything is minimalistic. It's greatly admirable. And when you open your heart to what they offer, they are the absolute best and loving on a whole new level. You made it this year at a great time before the world shut down. Hope you're faring well and i'm really glad you enjoy my videos =D

Defintitely a favorite destination I have ever been to also. Tarawa and Butaritari. xoxo Ahh,"the bus",one of my favorite activities on Tarawa. When I was there they didn't yet have those larger vans so the bus was usually a Toyota family van. We kept a running tally of the most people we had been on one of those with - up to 20+ some days and a few shopping items or a bucket of fish here and there. "Tiaoka ikai." One thing youhave not mentioned is that the cost of getting to Kiribati has sky rocketed since 2010. I would love to get there on a sail boat one day.

Great video Anthony! What an adventure and amazing trip to my small and beautiful island KIRIBATI! My Mom she's actually from Tarawa and also Marshall Island from her father, but we went to Tarawa (Kiribati) when I was 5 yrs old then raised and live there until now. I am very happy and really enjoy when I watched your video because I missed my whole family and my Island since I left Kiribati for almost 5 years now. Very interesting to hear about your documentations and observations as well regarding the Kiribati way of living, and with your experienced we apologized about some weird or negative facts about our Island, especially concerning the mistreatment of the Environment by dumping a lot of trash and garbage into the sea. That's very sad but we really hope that our Government will take more actions and raise more Awareness about the negative impacts to our Surrounding Environment, so that they might put a lot of Control and Restrictions on those improper situations. I'm sorry to hear about your medical issues as well when those dogs bites you. That's really bad but anyway, we hope that you are okay and getting a good recovery from your wounds after that time. If you are planning to visit Kiribati again in the future then my best advice is, always bring a stick when you walk through the villages on the Island, and I'm sure that you will scare them and chase them away if you pretend to raise your arms as well towards them. Christmas Island or Kiritimati Island is a wonderful place to visit as well because there's an abundant milk fish and bone fish there, and a lot more. I've been to Christmas Island and I lived in Ronton or London in English, usually the name was given by British soldiers when they lived on the Island before and carrying out Nuclear Weapon Tests during the 1950s. Anyway I look forward to watch your next videos again especially if you have time to visit Kiribati again in the future,....who knows? We'll praying that this Pandemic will be over soon so that everything will be resume back to their normal situations. I myself I am planning to go back to Kiribati too once I complete my study here and when these flights are uplifted back again as usual. Thank you very much for your video and I wish you all the Best on your future Adventures! Happy new year and stay safe always, God bless!

Mauri mauri Yan! I enjoyed reading this awesome comment and so glad I was able to virtually bring you home through my video(s). If I return to Kiribati, it would probably be the flight from Hawai’i to Christmas Island or some of the other islands of the Line Islands. Just like you, I pray and hope the pandemic comes to an end soon so we can get a chance to get back to travel! Sending aloha and Hawaiian sunshine to you my friend🤙🏼🙏🏼

@@aperezvoyages Mauri naba bro, (korarabwa) thanks for your response. And yeah thanks again for your video since when I saw some villages there on Tarawa and also some places on the other two islands - Abaiang and Butaritari that are also combined, they really brought back my memory when I was schooling in St. Joseph College (Tabwiroa) Abaiang, and also the main Catholic Parish at Koinawa in Abaiang as well. I also remember back the village of Antekana where the Airport, Council and the wharf were located, and that's during my last visit to Butaritari Island in the year 2013 because my Wife she's from there Makin and Butaritari islands. On Tarawa it's probably the same but I missed it a lot especially my village at Abarao, Eita since my house is still there behind my older sister's house and shops beside the main road. Anyways Kiritimati island is definitely a good place as well, but the only issue there is the weather, as it's very hot during the day but in the night it's okay as it's quite cool. Except on the other two islands - Tabuaeran (Fanning Is) and Teraina (Washington Is) where their weather is a bit different, because it slightly mild but experiencing a wet season and much cooler as since they're right next to, or close enough to the ITCZ Pattern. By the way I never been to these 2 islands but as far as I know, you can go to these islands by boat or by Air. So currently there is one Air Kiribati Y-12 Aircraft there that usually operating between these Line islands, which means Kiritimati (Christmas) would be the first place for the flight as it's link to International flights from outside countries just like Tarawa when you took the flight from Tuvalu to there. Sorry for a long story Anthony but anyway with the hope of our prayers, I look forward to watch your next videos again in the future when this pandemic is come to an end soon. Wish you all the Best on your Adventures bro and take care and God bless always!

Thank you for sharing your connection and family history to these islands. As for Tarawa, from what I’ve read and via photos, it has changed as far as infrastructure goes. But culturally, it’s still the same as the descriptions I’ve read. Interesting to note about Christmas Island. I wonder if it’s hotter there than the Gilbert’s or not. 😊 I wish you a happy new year my friend!

Since you travelled pacific islands / atolls, have you seen any activity of mangrove planting anywhere? With sea levels rising and those islands only a few metres above water, mangroves can be a solution- also to reclaim land. But I wonder if it’s being done.

@@aperezvoyages I can name every mainland country. But when it comes to the islands, I have a lot to learn. I could pretty much tell you what's a country and what's not just by the name but as far as its geographical location, I'm terrible. I'm going to sound so smart next time I properly pronounce "Kiribati" but also hardly anyone knows what it is so it wont be that impressive. Lmao

Islands are far more complex, especially if you’re looking at specific islands. Or even territories and or autonomous places like Cook Islands and Niue for example. I have an advantage because I’ve lived in the pacific for 3 years. But even so, I’m just one big ass nerd when it comes to the world map. 😄

Good upload. Waste management should be emphasized on the island. Sensitizing people should be the focus of authorities. They should provide waste management services for the public. bro you really sould've visit Nikunau. I'm living in Australia now but I was born and bred in the southern Kiribati, Nikunau. Over there, te iruwa (guest) is the most important human being than the president of Kiribati. I'm a little drunk now but, I am watching this and I really appreciate your honesty about Kirivbati.Overpopulation and pollution are the real core issues of my island home.
