Some comments here are naming horses that never suffered, this upload is about the sad demise of potential champions, Nick Dundee was possibly a superstar but for getting injured whilst running all over Looks like Trouble in the 1999 Sun Alliance chase...

Thanks for this; heartbreaking to watch tho. I'm one of the few who witnessed both Golden Cygnet and Killiney's fatal falls; watched them both live in a bookies, and there was stunned silence both times. Of all your 25, they were greatest loss

So many of these I never saw, but by far the biggest loss to racing looks to have been Golden Cygnet. I would have loved to have seen Altior trying to chase him home.. Growing up, the horse who I thought was a superstar, but never quite made the transition, was Black Jack Ketchum. He was really special and the one I thought was going to be like Big Bucks. In the current era, we've been denied with Vautour who still had many years in front of him, but it's even sadder for the likes of Our Conor who never won anything since the Triumph. Also Darlan who was just getting rolling, as well as my favourite, Simonsig, who had all the talent in the world but had legs made of glass. He was Sprinters work mate and was so good at times Nicky wouldn't work Sprinter with him. I suppose one horse who will be added to this list upon retirement, is the brilliant Douvan. He has a way of jumping I've never seen in a chaser and also had all the talent in the world to be as good as Altior. Imagine all the incredible clash of champions we could have saw between them.. Some even think Douvan would have beat Altior if he hadn't have fallen in the Champion Chase, which is scary if it's true...

Check out a horse called Draborgie from 1996 (Pendil novices or Bear Handicap) could quite literally have been anything but unfortunately may have been brought back too early to run at cheltenham and was fatally injured after the first few fences. How good she could have been we will never know but I still remember those winning distances..... just wow

French ballerina was a big omission and biggest of all..... Come on , do i really have to say it ..a horse that could of been the greatest of them all ...that still holds a record that wont probably be beaten again..last horse to win champion hurdle/ gold cup double..AND A MARE.... sure ya might as well throw in burrough hill lad arkle and mill house then. they all achieved greatness at least once. some great ones in here though. thought the world of montelado after that SNH romp.. cardinal hill was one i thought could have been a good one too
