Great great memories. Was still at school and had told my mates that there was a certainty at Cheltenham and we got together all the money we could and gave it to a mates older brother to put on at the bookies. We then wagged(truanted) school for the afternoon and all pilled in my parents house(they at work) to watch the race. She was in a class of her own and gave a superb display that still gives me goosebumps when i watch it again. Fantastic mare and fantastic day....happy days.

I remember Anaglogs Daughter's first race of the season following this triumph. She came over to Ascot in November 1980 for the Buchanan Whiskey Gold Cup, went off 6-4 fav and won in style. Made all the running and gave a great display of attacking her fences at speed. (the race was shown on BBC Grandstand).

Very surprised at Peter O'Sullivan mis-pro nouncing the Mare's name the whole way throught the race, A truly great Mare who had bags of pace and who was a great front runner up to two and a half miles.

Thanks for posting. Anaglog's Daughter was a great two miler in the Tingle Creek mould- ie go off like a scalded cat and see if anyone can catch up. Mind you, the field was not strong that year. Notice that Peter O'Sullevan mispronounces her name throughout.

Anaglogs Daughter ran in the following year's (1981) Queen Mother Champion Chase, finishing 2nd to another Irish trained horse, Drumgora. She picked up an injury a few days before the race and was a doubtful runner, was almost certainly not at her best. She finished lame when beaten in the PZ Mower Chase at Thurles in February 1982 and was promptly retired. Think 1980 may have been the first year the race was called Queen Mother.

Anaglog's Daughter was second to Silver Buck in the 1980 King George after Night Nurse unseated rider at the final fence.

I am wondering if the Templegate Hurdle at Aintree that I have just watched is now known as the Aintree Hurdle. Is this true?

Although, most of the mare's big race victories came under Tommy Carberry, Ferdy Murphy rode her to win at Chepstow in March 1980, just 4 days after her Arkle win. He was already private trainer to Bill Durkan and came in for the ride when Tommy Carberry was injured at Cheltenham on the Thursday and then Jonjo O'Neill (the next choice) was also injured.

Yep. I remember it was the Aynsley China Chase over 2m 4f at Chepstow the Saturday after Cheltenham, carrying over 12 stone.

@@matthat66 Yes I remember the occasion too. This horse had tremendous pace and Often made fools out of experienced opposition. There is nothing wrong with running a horse a few days after a previous outing along as the horse is well. I remember Don McCain did this with Red Rum in the 74 Scottish Grand National but I remember the ill fated Killiney ' killed in action at Ascot as a novice after winning the Sun Alliance chase at Cheltenham. @Padser1961 I must be thinking of another race. I know that second season over fences (1980/81) she was runner up a couple of times - the Champion Chase and the Sunratings Chase (Aintree) come to mind. I read a stat somewhere which said she won just 5 chases -doesn't seem right as she won several races in a row the year she won the Arkle Trophy.

Think she was actually 2nd in the 1980 King George VI Chase? Someone fell at the last to leave her as runner up, if I remember rightly. She also finished 2nd to compatriot Drumgora in the 1981 Champion Chase
