Apple is so much better with stock apps than windows. Imagine, Windows apps can‘t probably even do 10 % of what Apple apps can do without needing 3rd party tools. That‘s so great! Thanks for showing it to us Garry!

Another thing a lot of people are not aware of is that GarageBand can open videos created and/or edited using QuickTime Player or whatever else, make changes to the audio with the power of all the GarageBand facilities and save it back to the video. Came extremely handy recently when I recorded a video using QuickTime Player, the camera in my iMac and a microphone connected via a Scarlett Solo USB interface. Because the microphone is in the first input of the interface the sound is recorded only in the left channel of the video audio track. Once open in GarageBand it's trivial to make it mono so both left and right have the sound, and while there I could easily do a bit of EQ, compression and de-esser and get the level of the audio optimal. Then easily put that audio onto that clip and Bob's your uncle :)

I'll stop complaining about the editing features that were not carried over from QuickTime Pro 7 that I still use under Snow Leopard on my OG white polycarbonate MacBook. I'm still having trouble stitching together two halves of a full movie. It seems to be working until it bails with "An Error Occurred." I assume the segments are simply too big. Same problem when I try to separate two full movies that were inadvertently stitched together.

Hi, thanks for the excellent video. I use Quicktime as my default audio player. If I double click my audio file in Finder, Quictime opens it and I have to click one more time in Quicktime play button to start playing the music. Please, is it possible to get the file to play automaticaly in QT just by double clicking it in Finder? In other words, double click the file would cause QT to open AND star playing the music.
@macmost
@macmost 4 ай бұрын
I don't think so. But if your goal is to quickly hear the audio file contents, then use Quick Look instead. Select the file and press spacebar. But this won't work well if you want to listen to music. In that case, the Music app is probably a better choice. Why not have your music in your Music App Library -- that's what it is for.

Thanks for the nice video’s. Any video’s on how to add subtitels ?
@macmost
@macmost Жыл бұрын
Depends on the type of subtitles. If you want proper subtitles (that can be turned on or off) you would do that using video editing software that had that feature, or subtitle software. But if you want it in something like KZbin, you simply add the subtitles in the KZbin interface. If you want something permanently imprinted on the video that can't be turned on or off then just use titles in any video editor, like iMovie.

QuickTime Player should be able to handle those, but remember those file types are just containers that can include many different types of videos (different compression types and settings, for instance). So it could just be the one you tried wasn't compatible. If not, maybe something like VLC will do it. But I'd always try QuickTime Player first.

I'm missing the "Add to Selection and Scale” option from the Edit menu. In Quicktime classic, when audio went out of sync due to editing, you could cut the audio, then put it back using "Add to Selection and Scale” to make it sync correctly. Then select Save (not Export). There's no workaround as the beauty of editing with Quicktime is you don't need to re-compress the video file. Anyway, hoping this option comes back

*PLEASE HELP* I uploaded a video with airdrop to my MacBook and QuickTime is playing the video in a much worse quality than was taken on my iPhone. Its disappointing that you cannot connect the newer iPhones ie: iPhone 12 to QuickTime and view in Landscape. It will show on screen in Portrait. I kept my IPhone 6xPlus for this reason. I’ve looked for something equivalent but cannot find anything other than use a different camera app but then I loose quality if I do not use the apple camera.

@@macmost Record to iphone but view what I’m recording on MacBook screen so I know I’m still in frame. I think since apple 11, the on board camera app no longer goes to landscape in QuickTime. I kept my iPhone 6s Plus so once I hook up iPhone 6 to QT and image from the iphone camera turns to landscape on the MacBook. I record direct to the iphone only. I want to use the newest camera setting but not able to because the image will not turn to landscape even tho it will record in landscape, it defeats my purpose to see what I’m doing. I have iPhone 12 plus. I’ve tried other camera apps but I find videos are not as sharp as the onboard camera. Hope this makes sense. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@@ProAttique Not sure what you could mean by "services in the control panel" as that sounds like Windows, not Mac. A long time ago there used to be another screen recording option that had a way to pause, but if you want that now just get a third-party app. Plenty to choose from.

@@macmost thank you for the reply. I’m sorry to say about the control panel as it is different on macOS. The guy was playing with some command prompts. As we can set some services to extract audio, or do other functions inside macOS. So in the video the person was dealing with some sort of command prompts. To make it more clearer, it was about creating shortcuts as we do on iPhone. I use OBS studio, but I don’t know why it is lagging too much even though I’m using it on Mac M2. As a content creator, I face a lot of difficulties in screen recording, and facecam in OBS. Personally, I can’t afford any ScreenRecorder if the options are for the paid one.

@@ProAttique So you make content as your work but can't afford a screen recording app? They aren't expensive. But if you really want to stick with free, remember you don't have to pause screen recording. You have other options. Keep recording and then edit out portions you don't need. Or, record multiple clips and then edit them together after. There are so many solutions for you.
