I tested the new M3 LR last week with clear sky on b-roads without markings, and the Autopilot/TACC was the worst experience I've ever had from an assistant system in a car. It would phantom brake constantly. Colleagues who drive both the previous 3 and Y told me they just don't use cruise control on those roads (which a lot are where I live). I would have bought the car if it wasn't for the horrible cruise control. EDIT: Last sentence in the video was Tesla has the data to back up that autopilot is safer than without. That's a lie, autopilot is about 10 times more likely to cause accidents than normal drivers (at least in the US).

As a new Model 3 Highland owner and first-time Tesla owner, I was frustrated to find out that my car completely disengaged Autopilot and ACC when I changed lanes on the highway. I was looking through KZbin videos to find out tips and yours is the only one explaining that double press and single press actually have different behaviour during Autopilot. I don't like having to double press the scroll wheel now, but it's much much much better to keep having ACC and not having to press the pedal to accelerate myself on each lange change. It's an easy trade-off and finally Autopilot behaves the way I like. Glad I didn't purchase EAP since some videos were kind of suggesting that auto lane change was the solution. I'm in Europe and EAP is very slow with auto lange change and the (Smart) Summon features don't really work that well here, so there's not a lot in that package for €3800. Thanks for this great video, keep it up!

As much as I find autopilot superuseful on motorways it's superannoying in regular, non residential areas around me. We've got quite a few roads where surrounding trees create near or full domes around the roads and autopilot freaks out way too often to feel it helps tho. Same is actually true for a regular cruise control. But as a fresh user of model3perf I found some of these tips genuinely useful.

I want to compliment you on a good, succinct video. There were two things that you confirmed that I realized just in the last couple of days. I was concerned about the camera warnings during two recent night drives, and last night when it said the right pillar camera was compromised, I guessed that it was simply because it was pitch black for a stretch of road; the warning cleared when I passed a car. The other thing was the slight adjustment when passing trucks. I would naturally steer from the center of the lane and that would often disconnect Autopilot. These past couple of weeks I noticed Autopilot seemed to be doing it but I wasn't sure -- you've confirmed it! I also like your non-autopilot shout-out about the podcast skip function in the left control wheel -- just discovered that this morning! Thanks

Great video, I’m in the US and have had FSD on my first Tesla (2019) and now my second Tesla. Tesla has not been able to determine why my camera(s) display a message as being blocked at night. You solved this mystery by starting this alert populates when it’s extremely dark out. Remembering back to the incident this is exactly when the cameras sent a message they were blocked. I look forward to all your future videos.

Normally it happens 1-2 times per trip. I like rainbow road as a reminder that autosteer is engaged (& it looks way cool:) My main grievance with autosteer is the car tends to start turning into the curves to the left too late, which makes me nervous, so i often disengage to take a better line.

With phantom swerving, I had my first experience a few days after I got it. I was in the right lane traveling and went through an intersection that had a two lone T-junction turning onto my road. My MY took that centre turning white line as a lane marker and tried to follow it. There was a car next to me and luckily I was concentrating because I had to snatch the steering wheel to avoid a collision. From that point onwards I always traveled in the left lane through that intersection and if I was stuck in the right lane I'd disengage AP. Scared the life out of me, haha.
@peterpanousis84583 ай бұрын
Yeh auto steer needs work. I had a similar experience entering the freeway. There were 2 marked lanes that merged into 1. As soon as the car reached that transition point, where the canal line marking stopped, it violently steered hard left from the rightmost lane to get me into the centre. Brown pants ensued 😂

I try to like autopilot, but it has some scary issues in the UK. It doesnt seem to have any issue with suddenly braking or accelerating, and it gets way too close to other cars in adjacent lanes. Also if someone in an adjacent lane starts to slightly encroach into your lane it slams the brakes on with no consideration of whats behind you. This is a frequent issue on european narrower multi lane roads. If a small vehicle, e.g. a motorcycle cuts in close in front of you, it will suddenly brake hard. Also, it seems to freak out if you are at the bottom of a large dip - it thinks youre going to crash into the road that is climbing in front of you and so brakes aggressively. Ive also noticed some other drivers seem to know these problems and drive in a way to specifically cause them just to piss you off - e.g. overtaking you and then slightly encroaching on your lane to make you brake suddenly before accelerating off into the distance. And most of this is with just TACC, not even autosteer. I'll only be using it on very empty motorways!

Great video! Quick one, why do you prefer using 'Tesla Vision' on the Park Assist?
@BobbieGWhiz3 ай бұрын
I used AP on a long drive today. When a lane increased to 2 lanes on a highway, AP didn’t know which lane to go into. At the last moment it swerved into the faster lane (left lane in US). Very unnerving. Also, if lanes are poorly painted, eg. when roads are recently paved, the AP is unable to continue on its own. I’m unclear if FSD can handle these issues.

My 2018 Accord sport had a really good autopilot also but the Tesla is a bit better. But the Honda Sense version is good too
@mrv61593 ай бұрын
I think you will have less trouble if you exclusively use autopilot on the highways. That’s what Tesla recommends. In Europe atleast. I’ve seen you drive 30-50km/h with many turns, so understandably it is still adapting there (beta autosteer).

The latest version of FSD seems to like to go 10 MPH or more below the posted speed limit on single lane/country highways when the speed limit is above 45 and its not following behind a car. Adjusting the max speed doesn’t help. I hope they fix this soon. I nudge it up but whenever it needs to slow down it doesn’t go back up again when clear and straight.

You're editing it snappily to keep the video engaging, but when doing so, many of the points were hard to understand for a first time viewer. So, I had to rewatch many things. when you said it switches apps when you hold the left button and move, it wasn't clear how it does that. Should something be selected before it can do that, and how does it know which app to move to next. It wasn't clear at all when you said Double Pull was better. What if someone had full self driving with Double Pull? I am still none the wiser (as a new viewer of this video with no experience of Autopilot yet) whether Autopilot can handle lane changes on its own when absolutely required? Is the recommendation still that you change lanes, and re-engage Autopilot. And when you have FSD, does it lane change on its own?

I think the BMW drive assist pro is as good as keeping the lanes as autopilot but never phantom brakes, never swerves, accelerates when passing, does lane changes all the time and very quickly and slows down perfectly for roundabouts, curves or crossings. It's hands down the best system. Without even mentioning the capacitive wheel... Mercedes is not as good as maintaining the lanes but is still thousands of times better to use (and Tesla is the only one that makes you reactivate autopilot EACH TIMES you switch lanes). In France at least, Autopilot and BMW are the most effective at maintaining the lanes at all times but all of the other systems are better to use than Autopilot. It's so incredibly annoying to use that out of the 10 people I know that have a Tesla, only one use autopilot and not all the time

I have a major complaint with Autopilot (or, really TACC). If you are going at highway speed and you approach a stopped vehicle (either they are stopped for a red light, or it is a backup on the highway ahead of you), TACC waits until the last second and then brakes aggressively. Perhaps this is 'safe' but it is very uncomfortable (mentally and physically). It does not 'see' the upcoming slowdown / stoppage nearly as soon to slow down gracefully as a human driver would. Do you experience this, and do you have any tips as to how to mitigate this effect?
@RyanCowan3 ай бұрын
Whilst I haven't found this to be a major concern, I understand what you're saying. We know AP sees the stopped cars, just slows down too late. If you increase your follow distance on approach that seems to help.
