I dropped in to hear what Luxembourgish sounds like. I am an American that has lived in Germany several years. When I listen to the Luxembourgish, it is obviously a Germanic dialect. When I listen to it spoken slower and more precisely I can understand it very well, it would be a lot of fun to learn. I love culture and dialects, I would love to see Luxembourg, if this damn pandemic would ever subside.

Today there are only 390,000 people who speak Luxembourgish. No other language has survived in the modern times with so few native speakers. All others have become extinct, and there is no reason to assume Luxembourgish will be any different.
@christopherollinger7457
@christopherollinger7457 5 жыл бұрын
@@drServitis I think there is one good reason that Luxembourgish won't die so fast as you think. The population of Luxembourg is expanding faster than in other Countries and nowadays you need to speak Luxembourgish in many jobs. On top of that, Luxemburgish is still alive in the modern world. However, I don't say that you're wrong, but you should not keep someone from studying a language.

Even if you never studied either German or Luxembourgish you will be able to understand each other without any problems. Linguistically Luxembourgish is a Moselle-Franconian dielact of German but for political reasons it is seen as a seperate language.
