Good list and sadly it's the reality now and only increasing and also some parts I quit and deleted my social media account a year ago in November which was FB and with this list don't think I can get back there nor would I want too since the life really is a lot of fake and with this it's not a good idea then again that's not the only problem facing us that's deadly either and with these types of people it wouldn't be too surprising how worst it is they really might not even find this or even worse have someone else deal with stuff along with other nightmares.

I am happy to say I will be 80 on May 3rd, and my wife will be 81 on Valentines Day, as we are part of the Silent Generation, 1928 to 1945, not boomers, and happy to be retired and comfortably well off. We are glad not to be too affected by todays society. Having beaten the average lifespan, the years to come will be a bonus. 😊

16 - I broke my nose in October. When I finally got to see the ENT, he pointed out that I really didn't have any problem breathing through the injury, I mean, it was barely broken. He asked if I wanted corrective surgery. I laughed and said that if he had asked 40 or 50 years ago, I'd've said 'yes, and oh, while you are doing that, take off the bump' since I have a smallish 'Roman' nose. Now, nah, I'm okay with it. Now, 1998 I did have plastic surgery and my insurance PAID for it. I had breast reduction, I flat out told the doctor if he'd take them all off I'd be even happier, but he couldn't do that. None the less, I'm now a B cup instead of a triple D. I still have the problem I had before the surgery, but I no longer have to wear a bra which made the pain even worse.

Super nervous that once I get my thyroidectomy I'm gonna gain massive weight. Thanks for the portion advice Mike, and anymore diet advice would be helpful. Thanks everyone ❤

One good guide is the shorter the ingredients list, the better. This doesn’t apply to salt, sugar, or butter, alas. Also, are the ingredients familiar to you or chemical names? Having some junk food once in a while won’t kill you (hopefully). As for exercise, I, too, am too sedentary. I do exercise, but I need to do more. Start with chair yoga or chair tai chi. It will help. I wish you good fortune on your life improvement.

I think it would be great if you did a list about coffee and how bad it really is for you... research diterpenes in coffee and what it dies to you.. it also makes it very hard for your body to naturally remove bad cholesterol and other things... no one talks about this and the only reason I found out about it was for the first time every my blood work was terrible.. the only thing I had changed in my life was I started drinking coffee.. so I began the research.. I immediately stopped, switched to organic loose leaf green tea mixed with organic black tea and 3 months later my blood work was perfect again... There are so many older people that live on coffee and so many of them are on dangerous medicines because they have high cholesterol and triglycerides... if they stopped drinking coffee they may not need those medications... instant coffee is not as bad as regular coffee but still something to think about... Thank you for educating us in so many different topics.. 😃

Hi Mike! I'm currently re-reading Ender's Games by Orson Scott Card. First read it 30 years ago in high school, and recently rediscovered it. As for the topic of the video, I'm actually going to be evaluated for hypertension tomorrow morning. I stopped at one of the blood pressure machines at my local Mart of Walls and got 3 consecutive BP readings of ~170/120. Kinda scared me, so I''m off to see the doc first thing in the morning, Wish me luck!

For me, as I suffer from Anorexia where I just never feel hungry, although I'm slowly teaching myself to have a few small, healthy snacks throughout the day, I am diagnosed with Hypotension. When I saw my Family physician a week ago, I kid you not (and no I'm not mixing up my numbers here), my blood pressure was... are you ready.... 60/88. Yeah!!! It's not fun when you hear "Do you want to die?" come out of your family doctor's mouth.

On the subject of social media, I see all these people on Instagram and KZbin who seem to be in healthy relationships, and they're always traveling around the world and doing lots of other fun things while I'm usually stuck at home, unable to afford a real vacation. It makes me feel like I'm failing at life, while these other people are seemingly living in heaven on earth. Yet at the same time, I have to wonder what all these people are NOT showing us. The fighting and family drama, as was mentioned in the video. The stress of their jobs, their financial or legal struggles. The various physical and mental maladies that we all inevitably suffer from, whether temporary or permanent. The inconveniences we all go through in life, from car trouble to household appliances breaking. And their personal tragedies, the deaths of loved ones and pets. Does anybody truly live a peaceful, utopian existence?
@kellychuang8373

Yes you can only wonder and maybe a good idea really not showing that along with that consideration of what isn't shown about since it's not always real especially when it's TV, movies and now social media that's doing harm and you can only wonder what those rich and well to do people cover up or how the characters in TV and movies really are also fake as some other videos tell or like in history with rich well to do lives it's not all fun and games I can tell you.

Some of the things listed here I struggle with, such as screen time before bed, having a sweet tooth, being a picky eater, being hooked on the internet, having a (mostly) sedentary lifestyle, and gaming a good bit... It's hard when I have a pretty low metabolism, and when most of my good friends I've known for several years are online friends(never met most of them in person)... Now, if some of the food things I don't like were blended up with something that tastes good, like in sauces or a smoothie, I'd get more nutrition that way, as I have an issue with certain food textures... My attention span isn't that great, either, just like you, Mike... 😅

Okay. The only time I'm on social media is to watch you tube videos that can maybe enhance my knowledge. I read books, yep real books. Never add salt to a meal until you've tasted it. I have a garden and can. I live bt the philosophy of Popeye " I am what I am". You can get all the plastic surgery you want, but you're still the same age inside. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70's, riding bikes, hanging with friends, and, of course, being home when the street lights came home.😁 Another good one, Mike, a thinker🙂✌️

I spend no more time on the internet, than I used to spend on linear television, a couple of hours a day, and if I'm really busy, next to none. If I sat still, because I have arthritis I would sieze up, so I'm never totally still. If I was time lapse filmed, you'd see me get up, every so often and always moving my position, when I am sitting. I don't have a car, so if I go out I have to walk and because I live in London, England I use public transport too. I don't get huge portions of food, I really couldn't eat them, so if I want to buy something that's too big for one portion, like you said, I leave it for later, or sometimes I don't get it at all. Whenever I've been to a cinema, I always buy a small drink and little else, which surprises and annoys the catering staff. 😁 I get stared at by some people in the supermarket for buying salad in the middle of winter. 😁 One year I had a very bad year, health wise, so when I went out into the sunlight of summer, I got a rash from being sun sensitive, so now I always use sunscreen. Always avoid over exposure, just as much as under exposure to sunlight. Hey folks, read the labels on your food, as well as eating more wholefoods. In the UK we eat less red meat than the US, but we eat more chicken, pork and fish here, because they are cheaper here. Get a library card and read real books, if you cannot afford to buy them, buy a Kindle or don't have room for piles of books. ❤

The mental illness one's definitely hit home for me. It's been a horrid few years, I lost my Dad, held him as he died, helped care for his corpse afterwards. I'm in a marriage that isn't the greatest, it's a gilded cage (today is actually the 7th anniversary of that), I haven't had a job in over a year because I can't get mentally/emotionally stable enough to exist properly, considering I've had major depressive disorder for 12 years, as well as a plethora of other issues. It's like every single day is literally a struggle to even stay alive - God I hate it here.

Your life sounds exactly like mine only I didn’t hold my dad when he was dying and I’m single. I suffer from massive depression which makes it impossible for me to work. I have no motivation to do anything and with all that going on, my health is taking a downward spiral. I have 100% blockages in my stomach that they have to perform surgery in the next two weeks. I have put all my trust and faith into God to bring me through this and I can only pray He takes me on home before I have a mental breakdown. I just wanted to let you know that you’re definitely not alone and to put your faith in Jesus; lay it all at his feet and stay prayed up. He’s the only way; there’s no miracle pill that’s gonna make it go away or bring you peace of mind. Also, I believe in you and I know that you can come out of this. You just have to put in some effort and take it slow. Don’t let anyone rush your journey. God bless you always

I love you Mike. Recently I have considered giving up my cell phone and computer. When I ask myself what are the benefits of my computer time I realize....not much. I am 67 this year so I know the joys of absolutely no computers or phones. We read and talked. We walked to places and knew our neighbors an were on a first name basis with our bankers, food bagger and landlord. Does Kindle count?

I usually walk about 2-4 miles a day. Fortunately, my neighborhood, in a large east coast city, is built for that. But many suburbs are not. And most suburbanites rarely walk past the end of their driveway ("walking" on a treadmill doesn't count). In fact, even if they are going just a few blocks, an easy two-minute stroll, they insist on driving. Why walk if you can drive? By the way, taking lots of very short trips in your car burns up a lot more gas, generates more pollution, and also wears down your car much faster, on a mile-for-mile basis, than does a long road trip. The countries in the so-called "blue zones," with the longest life expectancies, tend to be walkable. So try to incorporate walking into your daily routine.

It’s good that you are getting people to understand how much fat, cholesterol and sugar our food has. But frequently Sodium-plain old table salt-is s huge ingredient that is almost always overlooked. Typically Health Organizations recommend limiting sodium to less than 2300 mg per day. That is about 1 teaspoon of salt. And they are suggesting LESS than 1 tsp. So where do you fit in? I try to go with No Added Salt and since I’m not the one cooking, if something seems exceptionally salty I take a smaller portion of it. I also keep fresh fruit in my room along with No Salt/No sugar peanut butter and reduced sugar jelly and will fix a sandwich or have some fruit. I also keep cold cereal cups available along with reduced fat milk (1%). So please. please, do yourself a favor and put the salt shaker down. Oh yeah…those “No Sodium” salts still have salt it’s just Potassium Chloride rather than Sodium Chloride. If you’re a dialysis patient this may not be the best option for you. PLEASE, PLEASE Mike, mention Sodium. BTW…there is 1050 mg of sodium in a Big Mac. That is 46% Daily Value based on a 2000 cal/day.

@@cathallynch8269 Hell, lots of modern Americans couldn't even manage half a mile, I'd bet. They seriously could make a game show (a la Ninja Warrior) and call it "Are You Fitter Than A Caveman", in which amateur athletes would do physical challenges based on what prehistoric humans are believed to have been capable of. Even professional athletes may find it challenging, while the rest of us (i.e. the people watching on TV) wouldn't stand a chance. This might raise some awareness about the disparity between how fit most humans today are, and how fit they were naturally intended to be.

I learned this from my doctor. Do not drink while eating. Drinking while eating, can do more damage than good. The reason being, is if you drink while you eat, you are flushing the food out of your stomach quicker, allowing more room for more food. Waiting 30 minutes after you eat to drink, allows the food to settle, making it to where you don’t want to eat anymore. Trust me it works!

I remember watching "Supersize me" back in the day and was like this is total BS! I ate fast food (and processed food when I wasn't eating fast food) every day for 3+ years (I don't eat mcdonalds anymore and rarely go to fast food joints these days), was forced to drink Ensure or other supplemental drinks elementary to highschool, and to this day, I cannot push my weight up. Just yesterday I was asked what I had for lunch and I said pizza. "How many slices?" No... I mean a threw a California Kitchen thin crust BBQ Chicken Pizza in the oven after it preheated, cut it into fourths, proceeded to eat the entire thing in less time than it took to cook (9 minutes cooking time). Then proceeded to eat more food after that.

I've never been a good sleeper... ever. What am I reading... well I'm having trouble reading anymore it's my ADD I can't seem to remember things I read anymore... so I have been listening to books instead... right now listening to a series I loved years ago... Terry Brooks Magic Kingdom... I'm on the second book right now. I quit drinking soda years ago. I used to drink Pepsi as a child then switched to Dr Pepper ... Why? Because my kids hated Dr Pepper... and therefore wouldn't drink all my pop... that worked for a while then I had to switch to Diet Dr Pepper... then Diet Mt Dew... but that triggered me to have more trouble sleeping... and then I got told by 2 separate Drs to quit Caffeine... so I did. Was hard at first but I haven't regretted that decision... Though I still can't sleep.

Maybe go see a sleep specialist, I have sleep apnea and insomnia really bad. You could always try melatonin or Benadryl but the Benadryl will eventually dry out your nose and could cause nose bleeds.

@@TheCowboy4000 I would "if" that didn't mean that I would have to drive 4 hours to get to one... yeah... that's a NO. I'm not going that far ... As for sleep apnea I have had that tested 3 times already... and I'm on the borderline... but having tried a CPAP... that was a complete NO GO. That thing drove me crazy and made my sleep worse... if it wasn't the noise, the light, the gurgle of water, the thing sitting on my face it was the fiddle faddling with that freaking hose all the time and either my nose being WAY too dry and me getting constant nose bleeds or the water accumulating in the hose and starting to gurgle that drove me crazy... I tried 4 different styles of mask, head gear, and other things to attempt to get the thing to "help" me sleep... but I just found it too freaking annoying. The Dr said I didn't give it enough time... and I said "Dude... if 9 months is not enough time then fuck it."... I tried it for 9 months... and all it did was cause me less sleep than normal and annoy the hell outta me. I have been on at least a dozen pills to try to help me sleep but none of them work or they don't stop working and I feel groggy as hell all day long and that is a no go for me. Funny thing is that when I switched to working nights I actually had the best 3 years of sleep in my entire life... sadly though the problem re-manifested after 3 years, much to my dismay...

I find it interesting and sad at the same time that, when you're talking about environmental pollution, you show an image behind you of a nuclear power plant. All that's pouring out of those stacks is water vapor in the form of steam. Nuclear power is one of, if not THE, cleanest form of artificial energy creation that we have, today. As for this list, yeah...I do quite a lot of them. It's okay, though...I'll just try to avoid them in my next life.😁
