I was aquainted with "Vinny" in Pontiac Michigan where he lived at the time, just before the release of the single "I'm eighteen". He funded the beginning of his career by selling quaaludes. He was as much a downer as his pills. Vinny was an occasional visitor to a home we hippies called "the Pontiac House". I never took quaaludes (I was religiously a pot head) nor ever liked Alice either.

I knew someone in the music industry who got a record contract. He told me it was very obvious that it was the mission of the record companies to keep you intoxicated with free alcohol and drugs and happy with p#$$y so you will sign whatever papers they put in front of you. It is a very hard life being away from home all the time and the pressure to perform nightly, not to mention needing the creativity to write new songs for your next album. The music industry is NOT a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire having fun and playing music. Very high pressure and the weak will succumb easily.

Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom, who I expect no one outside the metal scene to be familiar with but still, should be number 1. He drank so much whiskey he literally dissolved parts of his liver and pancreas, leading to his internal organs basically eating themselves, before ultimately ODing on opioids and sleeping pills. Fucking brutal. Also, kind of insensitive to alcoholics and people with depression to just say every single person on this list drank cuz they were sad and more or less saying all their deaths were inevitable. People start drinking and using drugs for a variety of reasons and both addiction and depression are possible to deal with.
